Swain not impressed with Wells hire.

Sho are a bunch of clueless out tonight. Fact is NOBODY here knows how good Wells will be but if CBJ thought he was good enough to take on the job then we novice football coaches prob should let it play out...especially Swain...

Said that Wells was one of 3 OL Coaches last year with Mahoney and Debord.
Swain says if all 3 put out a bad product last year, how will now just one of them coaching alone put out a better product.
---
with 3 people running things it can be confusing with each one having different ideas.

Im not very smart. Can some please help me understand how Swain sharing his opinion translate to 17 pages of fans bashing him and each other? I dont get it.

Change your posts per page setting to 50 and it's only 6 pages of pointless discussion.

Ok. All you freaktards (Can I say freaktards? I'm not sure. Screw it, I'm running with it.) with meds, need to start sharing. If you aren't going to share, stop talking about them. It's like rubbing salt into the wounds of us who do not have them.

Insensitive bastages!

Yeah, it was scary. lol

However, learning that 2 men in the community were attempting to acquire explosives to be used against our citizens is a sobering thought.

That just shows that this kind of thing can happen anywhere.

Didn't get as much attention but there was a kid picked up in WNC under similar circumstances.

I was just picking at you as a jab for your earlier comment with my comment but , you're right, it is very sobering.

Middle Tennessee HS Coaches -

"I love it," state championship winning and Nolensville head coach Will Hester said. "He's a relationship builder. He's the No. 1 guy on Tennessee's staff in middle Tennessee in my opinion. It's not Shoop or any of those guys. He's a relationship guy and I think he's going to do a great job. It's a feather in the cap of the Tennessee high school coaches to have Walt Wells on staff."

Murfreesboro Siegel head coach Michael Copely is still brand new on the job after coming from Louisville Ballard. As a former Centennial assistant and veteran of the mid-state, he has not only seen Wells' tireless work ethic, but he's also been touched by the Wells player factory.

"He's invaluable," Copley said. "Especially when you start talking mid-state and in Kentucky. My offensive line coach that I had in Kentucky, Walt coached him. He's never met a stranger. He bonds with kids and I've seen him come in our buildings and kids love him. I think it's a no-brainer. Everyone of us at the high school level have said if he ever gets that chance, he will blow it out of the water. A lot of that is tied to recruiting, but he can also coach ball. What a freaking steal for Tennessee."

I hope you are right about the guy but I don't agree that coaching is coaching, regardless of the level. Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier agree, I'm sure. Room for error decreases vastly at every level. Personalities and egos also change drastically.

If you can communicate and you have knowledge in the subject matter that you are communicating, then you can be successful at any level is what I meant.
The argument is made that a coach is successful at a lower level because the competition is less due to talent. Well the coach's talent is less as well.
If the talent level of both teams is equal and your team is more successful, that would imply that you are a better coach, no matter what the level.
As a side note, from what I am reading on the board, Wells seems to interact well with players.

I stand corrected. You're credentials as a spectator are impeccable, and you're obviously much more qualified to have an opinion than anyone else here. I'm just sorry I didn't see it sooner.

Why didn't you just say so?

I did not say that I was more qualified. I do think that I am one of the few posters that has actually watched a team coached by Wells play.
That would allow me to at least be more qualified than a poster whose only contribution to the conversation is to be a smart aleck.
I only stated what I saw in order to bring some information to the board. I am sorry that the information does not fit your narrative.

No problem.
I took is as a good natured comment.
Crazy times we live in.

I know what you mean...Those kind of posters are the worst.

I've got zero opinion on the hire. I just find it dumb that I'm supposed to automatically consider Swain an expert on the matter.

Why is it dumb that he give an informed opinion on the hire? Nobody said he's an "expert" on it, but he clearly has better insight on it than 99.99% of posters in here. He's been balanced about it.....has questions given the guy's pedigree and because he's never done it at this level but has also said give him a chance and see how he does, may wind up being good to great. Just don't understand the reflexive dislike and disparagement of a former player giving informed opinions.

eh, i don't think Swain's opinion on this is any more informed than, well, mine. he's come out and said more than once this week that he doesn't know him, he's just not sure he'll work out or not, given the lack of experience at the P5 level.

which is an opinion shared by many here.

me, i think the more i read about him, especially insight taken from those that have worked with him, have developed relationships with him, there's some real positives to build from.

but none of that means anything as to what he'll actually do. so we wait and see. i do think he'll make a difference in recruiting. for sure.

and for as much emphasis as many of us, self included, have placed on locking down the state of TN in recruiting, he's a giant step in the right direction there given his ties to the mid state.

the guy is from Nashville, played HS ball there, has coached in the area at the D1 level. the only thin he doesn't have is a brand name on his resume.

it's not my favorite offense either.... but Clemson just beat Alabama with it.

According to Jones, no one else really runs his scheme. There are similarities and you may know better than I do how deeply they run. I have to take CBJ at his word.
