Post NSD Two-Deep heading into 2017

If your starter,Kelly, goes down in spring ball, having someone behind him with meaningful experience would be a good starting point.

Barring injury, Georgia is going to be in sad shape in 2018 at RB because I see Chubb and Michel getting all the significant carries.

Well he did run in the same offensive scheme for 2 1/2 years and did pretty good. Could it have been better out of the I, maybe. But not sure we miss used him for the time he was here. Wish he could have gotten better advice from an adult on how to handle his Jr year.

Yeah, me too. I think he is much better of sucking it up and going to the NFL this year. I dont have a problem with the o

Actually Butch agrees with me, hence his desire for Akers.

But he failed. We do not have SEC quality depth at RB and Butch is 4 years in.

But keep making excuses, lifelong attribute I'm sure.

Well, I'm sure he wasn't expecting JH to go bat**** crazy and therefore opening the door for AK to ball out, leaving both of them off the roster for next year. He has recruited the RB position very well, IMO! We still have Kelly, CFA and Chandler. 3 very good backs.

Roster doesn't look as bad when listed out like that but I'm pretty confident T Smith will not be starting game one over Richmond. Also, I would think Josh Smith would get the nod over Brandon Johnson starting at WR, even though I really like Johnson.

Look for Jack Jones to start at RG.. T Smith is 2nd team LG behind Robertson... Look for Ryan Johnson or Niehaus to be back up LT

It looks like CBJ may be putting together the right mix of coaching talent that can develop players. If he's able to bring in a guy like Brady Hoke and an upgrade the O-line coaching get coaches who know how to get the most out of players. We have some good raw athletes on our team that if developed correctly can make an impace.

Ty Chandler at second string RB is a neon sign at how poorly Butch has done in regards to building depth. Guess he needs 10 years.

People on here probably wont agree with you, but it really does tell the story quite well. Butch is infatuated with projects - at RB, WR, CB, etc. He needs to get away from the quantity over quality mind-set. Maybe it works in Year 1 or Year 2 when you're trying to flip your roster and a high turn over rate is expected. But still doing at year 4, year 5 is ridiculous and IMO shows his skills as a talent evaluator are very suspect.

CFA is a good prospect but there is a reason coaches backed off after his knee injury. Heck theres a reason why MOST coaches in CFB back off recruits after major knee injuries - Butch seems to have the opposite reaction. Makes you wonder...

He might be in the top 10 by the end of the season, but with all of these guys returning, that's going to be a tough top 10 to crack.

Nick Chubb
Sony Michele
Darius Guice
Ralph Webb
Bo Scarbrough
Trayveon Williams
Benny Snell
Damien Harris
Kamryn Pettway
Rawleigh Williams

Other than Scarbrough and Guice, there isn't a more talented RB on that list than Kelly.

He could lead the SEC in rushing next year.

Most on this board are in head down Dooley mode.

Thanks for this. Would be great to see these cats in a real, live SCRIMMAGE at the O&W game...yes, a GAME. Butch needs to lose the weird promo-circus and play a damn real football game again at the end of spring practice.

Too many players out due to injuries was why Butch had to do the weird promo-circus last year. Well that and to piss you off

Why is it that Butch feels he should fill in the roster. He misses out on a recruit and finds someone to fill the slot. I can understand if you don't have the numbers, but why pickup a player that's never going to see the field just to have a body there? Save the slot for next year.

Legitimate question but I'm going to fill in the rest of the story about Tyler Byrd.
They were complaining about not having depth at running back, now they're complaining that we have a four-star athlete at running back.

It should also be mentioned that Tyler Byrd is the basically the adopted brother of CFA. The part where we didn't back off CFA and believed he still possessed a ton of talent, is a major reason we landed Byrd. Who happens to be not only one of everyone's favorite players, but also one of the fastest players on the team.

I still believe your question is legitimate, just not about this player. In this particular case, the upside far outweighed the downside.
On filling other spots, it's a concern of mine also.
