The Reality

It seems that every time Tennessee is a laughing stock.. that's when we bring it.. look at the Gators last year. They thought they had the game in the bad before it even started. Well..

You know the result. We have our backs against the wall...

We need results not cliche's.
We sure brought it year Dooley years two and three. He had guest speakers come in and instruct proper showering techniques... I wish we could finally start bringing it after being mocked. It would stop the ridiculing

Wtf?

Tennessee has zero players on top 25 returning starters SEC lists I have seen.

This is in large part due to many of our players being injured. If Tuttle and DK jr had played all year they would probably be on those lists.

Our backups are just as good as SC and Vandys starters

No excuse for losing to those 2 teams

No they are not. This isn't the 90's anymore where Vandy and USC are hot garbage. USC's starters were almost all Spurrier recruits and players. Vandy still has a lot of Franklin's players. I think Franklin red shirted 20 players in 2013 which means there were a lot of redshirt juniors last year.

The reality being is that we have a team poiled to win the east. Coaching with make or break this year for us. Coaching will be the difference between 10-2 and 5-7.

We have the talent to be one of the top teams in the country but we could easily be on the brim of a losing season. It all depends..

It depends on how well out current roster is coached up.

We should pull off Florida and Georgia in my opinion opinion but alabama and LSU are a mystery.

Go vols!

Talent? Maybe.
Experience maybe not so good. (lot of freshman and sofs)
A whole lot of "experience players" need a whole lot of "coaching up" in a short amount of time.
I think a whole lot of success on defense depends on how well big Mac and King Tut recover and THEN hold up this next year.

UF lost 7 off their defense, they've not recruited in recent years to the levels to replace their stars over there with the same caliber of talent. They'll probably have an improved offense, but their defense falls off a cliff this season IMO.

Hate to say it, but expecting Fla. defense to "fall off a cliff" just doesn't sound right to me. Their recruiting is all ways good as it relates to most programs. Their talent on defense year in and year out seems to be as good as most anyone.

Both would have not made a bowl had it not been for beating Tennessee and i believe both lost the bowl. I know Vandy got demolished and i think USC lost as well.

At least 19 of our 22 starters will be upperclassmen.

We lost to Vanderbilt and South Carolina with a better team than what we'll have this year.

I think we'll be lucky to finish with 8 wins. Maybe butch can come up with some more cliches. That will fire up everyone.

"I'd rather have only 6 wins with great execution than 10 wins with marginal play". That sounds like something he'd say.

Wrong wrong wrong.

This team will have more balance on offense. And have more depth and experience on defense.

So no.

And the people that liked your comment shouldn't have an opinion.

What do you mean by "more balance on offense?"

As far as depth, I mean, we'll have additional bodies to fill roster spots, but the level of quality that we have at several positions on defense is markedly lower next year, especially at DE.

Other than DB and Cam, BEARDEDVOL, which defensive positions do you feel will be "markedly lower"? CRM didn't really play and most of the others are coming back and will be healthier and more experienced than last year. With better play at LB, defensive line and hopefully DB, I think our defense is much better this coming year.

Do you think its at least reasonable, whether you disagree or not, to believe that D line play will likely decline this year?

Was there a particular reason that you typed my name in caps? Just wondering.

You left off Corey Vereen, and I'm guessing that by "CRM", you mean JRM. If you'll recall, without Sutton and JRM, and the injuries at DT our defense went from "meh-ok-should be a lot better" to "OMFG everyone is settings offensive records against us bad"

Now stay with me here, we are going to get a few of those guys back who were injured, but we don't have any replacements that are up to par with Barnett and Vereen, or Sutton and JRM really. And players like Quarte Sapp who had 4 games in 2015, and were out the entire season are a huge unknown.

That's not to say that some of these guys won't improve, but as it stands, next year at almost every position group, we have are starting out with a less-talented player in 2017 than we did in 2016.

There's some hope that Warren can reverse the damage that Martinez did over 4 years, but that's a lot to overcome in a short amount of time.

those losses were without almost half of the 'better team' playing and the worst DB coach in the NCAA

That's your opinion why we lost to bottom feeders.

Alot of us have our opinions we should have won anyways....a miracle we beat APPY...healthy.
Maybe keeping Lawson would have been a difference maker.

We will be lucky to pull off a winning record. Even if they do manage 6-6 I'm willing to bet we will get crushed in a bowl game.
We've done as good as we have the last 3 years because he had Barnett all over the QB, had Hurd throwing defenders in the air, and Josh Malone running silky smooth routes. We now enter a season without any of those, on top of losing a QB that could turn the weakness of the Oline into big gains.

I guarantee we will start the year 0-1 as GT is hyping themselves up as an SEC killer and Butch will have TONS of excuses to throw around after his staff befuddles another game.

The Vanderbilt game is a must win for the coach. Tough situation to have a game against anyone where you get fired of you lose. This is one of those rare times.

No, it's not. Good grief, this board is so full of the LOM. It's pathetic and a cesspool of negatively.

And Clemson shouldn't have lost to Pitt for example either. **** happens. Once you get to a certain level of talent, nearly anyone can lose. But I guess that's too hard for you to understand common sense.

The only place we should decline on the line will be where Barnett was. The rest should be as good or better due to the injuries we had. I guess you can't take injuries into consideration when making your know it all comments though. 🙄
