Agree with this! However, I believe that 5 star talent doesn't correlate well with this coaching staff. It doesn't seem like an issue at places like Alabama or Ohio State that keep 5 stars satisfied and around. Your gameplan has to fit your personnel, not the other way around. It's been proven over and over again.

In some cases, that's true. And nothing can be done for that. If folks are going to make stuff up, then it doesn't matter what you say or do.

So yeah, some of the criticism is unfair. Since he said it, my take has been that the sentiment was fine, but it should have never left the locker room. But in the context of answering that particular question in that particular setting, it was a big mistake on his part. No reason for anyone to lie about it. It deserved legitimate, honest criticism.

I'm not defending anything. I simply believe it doesn't matter and you already know what you get with a Butch press conference. Anyone who doesn't and reacts like a child over every word is an idiot

You also completely overestimate the number of people who 1) know who Butch is and 2) care what he says in a February press conference

This is part of the 365/24/7 stuff that keeps coaches from doing the old Booster club tours across states, radio shows, etc.

Every flippin thing these guys do has to be analyzed and psycho-analyzed.

Yes, it's kind of corny. But, it's meaningless.

He was talking about his seniors. It didn't deserve criticism. The mistake was making to a bunch of guys with little to no integrity and believe they would be fair

Its not a feb press conference man, its what he is known as nation wide. A mediocre coach that says stupid stuff that embarasses his team on a consistent basis, this is CBJs reputation. Overcompensating for what he cant get done.
If you think it doesnt matter, great, say your piece and let it go. Its not what happens on vn that matters, we are all vol fans on here, except for a couple of bama and florida morons. Its the national narrative that matters and it doesnt matter how much you rant about it here.

Yes, he was talking about his seniors. Yes, the sentiment was absolutely fine. Heck, more than fine. Call it great.

His mistake was saying it in response to a question about losing out on the SEC East. You can claim the guys and gals in the press have "little to no integrity," but I'm sorry, that's trying to shift blame. Butch said what he said when he said it. If someone has either misquoted him or removed the context, then I will agree that's wrong. But the honest-to-God statement in the honest-to-God context is deserving of criticism.

They aren't bunched up.

Florida beat them by 7 to 8 spots depending on whether you look at Rivals or 24/7.

UGA beat them by 12 to 14 spots.

Even Muschamp and the Gamecocks closed ground on the Vols yesterday and we know how well Jones handles dealing with him.
