*****NATIONAL SIGNING DAY on VolNation

I'll buy you a hat if you will.

Seriously though, it is easy to be negative for the sake of wanting better.

Today may not be a great as you want but talking about how bad you think it is will not make it better.

Be supportive and let the numbers/math at the end of the season speak for themselves.

As I've said before. This is a message board where people come to express their opinions about the program. I have no expectation that anything said here will have an impact on the program one way or another. It's just opinions. Many people have negative opinions because for nearly a decade the news out of Knoxville has been far far more bad than good. There really isn't much positive to say frankly because if there was I'd totally be talking about it as would so many others who get labeled in a negative light. I keep my opinions aimed at the program and not at other posters because as I said this is just an opinion board about the football program and not about other people. One day you'll see that all of us are not so negative when things actually improve and there are many nice things to discuss. Until then I focus on real world things and only occasionally pop into this board to commiserate with my brethren. I don't look at this stuff as seriously as many full time posters do. I'm always supportive of the program but my support is not going to manifest itself as blind faith and drug induced vomiting of Butch's party line. Sorry but it's just not.

Ranking (in which you have determined the may "be the worst class") is not made by the coaches.

No one can accurately determine what mistakes a college student is going to make off the field.

Coaches cannot predict if and when a player will be hurt.

And, my scenario focuses on the employee rather than the boss. Your inclination seems to blame the boss for everything.

What is your win/loss expectation for Butch this year?

Of course, to answer you must use some speculation.

Wait. So you basically think that system used in college football player ranking is some sort of 'magic' that you don't quite understand or trust?

The problem is Butch can't match recruiting ranking to team ranking on the field.

I am glad you got that off your chest.

It has nothing to do with my post, but, I'm glad you got that out.

As a fan, you must have expectations in order to determine if something is measuring up either positive or negative.

And I agree that it is just your opinion that, like mine, holds little if any weight to anyone but yourself. The pressure is off.

Nope, didn't say that at all.

Did you say that it is perfect in all forms and calculation. It is as great as anything you have ever seen. You would give anything to be a smart as those who make those ratings?

If yes, anticipate the next question to be which one of the infallible rating systems you believe in to the point of dedicating your life, as they tend to not be in perfect unison on every player.

Wow, look at the depth. This ain't no BS depth either. This is quality depth. Look at the positional needs met.

Two HUGE TE's. A barn full of smaller speedsters that spread out the field. A down field target in that receiver from canada, and defensive field that can basically switch out every down, and that QB... don't know the kid, but he has pro style attack written all over him. The game is about to change for UT. No more highschool running backs as QB's.

That is a big problem in meeting the fan base expectations.

He is not the first coach to have that problem and he might end his UT career with the same fate.

It really comes down to meeting the win/loss expectations of those that write the biggest checks.

If you haven't figured it out already, you will. There are some that will read what they want into your post, twist it around and make it work for them. Sometimes, they'll just totally ignore your question and ask you a question in hopes of distracting you, and again, make it fit thier narrative or agenda.

Pay attention, you'll see it. To be fair, I don't think they even realize they're doing it most of the time.

It just hit me. PM has his hands all over rebuilding this team. This looks like the Denver broncos. It looks like the Indy colts, it looks a lot like the patriots now. It is built inside out not with stars...with football guys. With fast, smart, dedicated football guys, for a pro style nfl looking modern football attack.

Lol...I'm starting to think that you don't even watch the games on Saturday. CBJ has a sub .500 record in conference play. Even at Tennessee that will eventually get him fired once we actually have an AD.

I've been here for quite some time.

Most message boards, just as in real life, include the usual characters.

Life would be boring without variety.

Ha, I don't think you even have television.

I think you are agreeing with me that meeting the win/loss expectation is more important to tenure than a recruiting class ranking.

It is a good thing we both have internet. Well, you may be at the library. But hey, you figured it out!

Just kidding with you about the TV/internet.

In a year where this program loses tons of talent, Butch closes out signing day with the 7th best class in the conference.

That's really all that needs to be said.

I'm not sold on Jones but it's obvious that I'm not a fan of anything I don't find untruthful or in this case (in perspective)
Jones is sub 500 because of the dumpster fire year.
He is 500 in the last 3 and something like 9-7 last 2.
Then 500 again last year.

Last year and even 9-7 are enough to make a case against him. The whole sub 5oo using the first year is iffy.

Reminds me of year 3 when everyone was screaming same record as Dooley but only after our hardest stretch. Then of course, he had a much better record by the end of the season. And no one wanted to compare records anymore.

Just like the rankings with MWA, "negavols" have a real legitimate argument. But anything that embellishes, exaggerates or is unnecessary spin, causes me to be less open to their point of view.
You are being honest about the record but no AD is going to include that 1st year in any decision.

Ok, cut the first year out, we'll give him a dooley for that year.

He's 12-12 overall, season four, he's 4-4. How many years would you give him to see if he can raise that average?

Now in some scenarios, I can understand giving him additional time, but after the 2016 season, with the division being as bad as it is, I'm convinced that he's probably not ever going to be able to do much better than the 5-3 record he pulled off in 2015.

Okay but I'm not asking you to give him additional time, I respect everybody's opinion on that.
But you pointed out his record isn't that great even if you take off the first year, I'm not arguing with that either, I just think it's more fair to take off that first year.
And even still unhappy with the results I respect it much more because it is definitely more legitimate.

And now UF has a Top10 class.

Wow.

They had hopes of a top five coming off to back-to-back division titles and the fact that they're in Florida. Where you can throw a rock and hit a four star.

But on a stranger note, Clempson finished behind us? (for now).
Not sure if they have guys expected later.
