If Trump wants to make us safer, maybe don't kill 8 year olds and encourage blowback.

"Donald Trump told the world he would kill civilian family members of terror suspects. On January 29, 2017, President Trump ordered a Special Forces raid in Yemen that killed Nora al-Awlaki, age 8, daughter of Anwar and sister of Abdulrahman (both killed by Obama's drone strikes in 2011). Her uncle was killed, as well as "numerous" civilian women and children; her mother's whereabouts are uncertain.

Who in Yemen will believe it was only "collateral damage" this time?" - The Skeptical Libertarian

Two Americans were killed in the process of making us a bigger target of terrorism. Trump is going to **** our national security.

The senior military official said the 8-year-old girl, Nawar al-Awlaki, also known as Nora, was among the noncombatants killed in the raid, which also resulted in the death of several Yemeni women.

The fate of the child's mother, Anwar al-Awlaki's widow, has not yet been confirmed. However, al-Awlaki's brother-in-law was killed in the raid.

Nawar al-Awlaki is the second of Anwar al-Awlaki's children to be killed by U.S. forces. Two weeks after Anwar was killed in late 2011, his 16-year-old son, Abdulrahman, was also struck in a drone strike.

It's been established for 50 years that you can't discriminate against immigrants (but you can discriminate against refugees) based on nationality.

Golf's interpretation is that you can't have quotas based on nationality, but I don't think that he understands that 0 uis a quota.

Well then, time to change the law to accommodate the exigencies of the limits and dangers of the modern world.

What danger? You scared of lightning?

The "lightening" schtik is so trivial as to beg forgiveness of wanton ignorance.

There are other issues than becoming a physical casualty whether by injury or death.

You and I will not ever agree on most issues and I consider your positions on many things detrimental to what I believe the founding fathers intended, and what in fact came to be, the American way of life. I have no intention of engaging you on much of your BS especially when you begin referencing the CATO. Given CATO's policy of turning over most government functions to private concerns. As said to make government "small enough to drown in a bathtub".

We have little in common. And none of your positions which I'm willing to reject for those you espouse.

Wait, you think the intent of the founders was to grow government to its current size?

I find it weird that the people most upset about the USA stemming the influx of immigrants and actually limiting the numbers coming in are also the same people who feverishly defend aborting babies..

I figure people so obsessed with birth/population control wouldnt scoff at the idea of limiting new people in..

Most people don't want to abort fetuses..but many people believe that it isn't their right to tell the woman what to do with her body

I'm tired of the notion that this is a nation "founded on the backs of immigrants" and one that needs to remain as such for all time.

The colonists that settled this land had and turned it into the United States of America to beat down a bunch of poorly-unified, interloping migrants in order to make damn certain who the king of the hill happened to be.

Immigration has been a tenet of American society for centuries, yes. But the new breed of immigrant isn't looking to assimilate, isn't trying to become one with the culture and fabric of our society. They're increasingly complacent to do as they feel and demand (with the help of myriad fools in NYC and other urban "utopias") that we augment our laws and our way of life to suit their needs.

And, ya know what? I don't blame them; we've been making it progressively easier for them to have their way, so of course they're going to try and have their way at every turn. The primary difference is that, unlike the colonists vs. native savages, there's no way that these people are going to win a fight and take over this land.

This 90-day moratorium on the given countries is great, but it has to be just the start or else the entire effort is for naught. We need to severely slash the visas and green cards we issue, revoke a number of those that we have already issued and institute a of permanent ban on immigration of individuals from "hot zones" that present a danger to American citizens. It's about more than our safety, it's about maintaining our American way of life.

This is ignorant and laughable.... You have painted with such a broad brush here that it's hard to believe that you even know anyone who wasn't born in the US. I am good friends with an immigrant from India who is also an oncologist and as far as assimilation is concerned? He is just as big a Vol football fan as I am and believe it or not... he wasn't born that way.

And I find it hard to believe that you know any immigrants aside from your one anecdotal Indian friend. Take a trip to New York City, Los Angeles, Houston... try and tell me with a straight face, after returning, that everyone is onboard with the American ideal.

P.S. Noble as it may be, I'm not sure that being a Vol fan is proof-positive that one has assimilated. I've seen plenty of people who can't speak a lick of English rocking "Nueva York" jerseys, and just being a fan of a local sports team isn't an inherent sign of assimilation at all.

I have indeed spent time in NYC and DC and I can no more say that EVERYONE who has immigrated here has assimilated anymore than you can make the stupid comment that I quoted... I also have a friend from China named Yong Zheng who is a CPA in DC. He married an American woman from Lynchburg, VA and over the last 17 years has grown from someone who could barely speak English in 2000 to someone who audits for our federal government.

Also, assimilation is not an essential component of immigration. Immigrants need to understand our laws and follow them but beyond that it's really up to them to figure out what kind of life they want to have here. I wouldn't say that Cuban immigrants in south Florida in the 70's assimilated as much as they carved out a home away from home. The United States has never been a true melting pot.
