So, here's where we currently stand regarding the developments in Moscow this week:
Two FSB agents have been arrested and charged with treason, as has a higher-up in the Kaspersky institution. All are allegedly associated with the Kremlin's interference into the 2016 American presidential election.
Three explanations, and these are the only three possible:
1. After a successful Kremlin CI operation, it located moles in its ranks that were providing HUMINT possibly to American intelligence agencies but perhaps through an American ally.
2. Putin conducted this operation as the mafioso he is. He used these men for their services, and then decided to dispatch of them before any had a chance to talk.
3. We just witnessed the first hitjob of the Trump Administration. More specifically, Moscow Mike Flynn getting to work.
Given the timing of the arrests (or more specifically, the public announcements of the arrests) no more than a week into the Trump presidency, I'm leaning towards 3. being just as plausible as the other two explanations.
This, to me, is perhaps the single most interesting development in this whole controversy.
