Hey Peyton

For one thing, how the hell do you know he was joking. He definitely wasn't laughing when he said it. He said point blank he would have an interest in coaching the qbs but wouldn't seek out a head coaching position. It wasn't a joke. Now who knows how serious he might be but if I was butch I would've immediately called him and offered him that opportunity. And if he turned it down butch should've found an opportunity in an interview to say I offered him the job and if he ever chooses to get into coaching he'll always have a spot with us at ut.
But butch said almost the complete opposite.
Y'all can all say what you want. It's funny, I said a couple of years ago how incompetent butch was as a decision maker. And I was almost mocked by almost every in here for saying that even though a huge number of college football analyst and former coaches said the same thing. Finally, after a bunch of additional follies most have come to realize I was right in criticizing him. Yet here everyone is saying that butch would've welcomed Peyton when all the evidence points elsewhere. At what point will the majority of the people on here stop expecting butch to make logical and intelligent decisions. Why are y'all unable to realize what an idiot this guy is. Is it just being blinded by how much we all love ut football? Trust me, I love ut football as much as anyone. It's why I so passionately want us to remove butch and bring in a top level coach. My 8 year old is a die hard fan but has never know anything except not winning. It breaks my heart. With all the resources we have and tradition we deserve better than what did cowherd call him? A hs gym teacher. How do y'all not see what the majority of people not affiliated with this program see? We have an idiot at the helm!

Fwiw I'll take what deerpark says way before I listen to another one of your rants. I have been critical of butch but if Peyton wanted to be here butch would of made it happen.

I think Peyton would take the job in a second. I think we have an incredibly insecure little man of a coach that gets his feelings hurt and doesn't want to be overshadowed. So sad he'd stand in the way of us bringing home our greatest hero who would undoubtedly elevate the recruitment. Sad and pathetic

A. Sources close to peyton have repeatedly denied he has ANY interest in coaching at this point let alone at the collegiate level. Pretty much everyone agrees hes bound to be an analyst or front office guy in the NFL.

B. I wouldnt hire him if i was butch either. Thats not a knock on Butch or Peyton but theres maybe 3-4 coaches in the COUNTRY who could handle the pressure of having one of the GOATS as an assistant. Its just not smart for him. Yes recruiting would take an enormous jump most definitely and yes i feel confident peyton could develop young qbs but at the very first loss or even close win that we thought shoulda been a blowout everyone in the state would be SCREAMING for butchs head and to make Manning the HC. Its a lose lose for Butch. Do well and Peyton gets a lot more praise for turning things around than Jones would for the hire. Do badly and who do you think our fan base and possibly even boosters and donors would blame? Our most famous and beloved player of all time or that guy from michigan who many already dont think can coach in the big leagues?

Also side note, if i was a head coach and had the chance to hire peyton id want him as a DC. Call me crazy but the guy understands defenses better than anyone who ever played the game. He revolutionized the passing game in the NFL and left teams scrambling on how to defend him and just kept out scheming them for 15 years. Its kinda like how the government hires hackers to build security systems, who better to beat offenses than a guy who understands them as well as anyone on earth.

Manning is too busy with speaking engagements, turning down NFL GM jobs, and nurturing his businesses to come take a job under Jones.

It isn't gonna happen.

How's he going to coach the Vols and be the GM of the Colts? Maybe he'll do us a favor and fire Pagano and then hire Saban.

Cause look at all the other Hall of Fame qb's coaching at their former school. I'm retiring from playing to work 80 hour weeks recruiting high schoolers and coaching up college kids instead of spending more time with my family. Where does that line start? Or end...........because it's short. A. I don't think Peyton is that hard up for the cash. B. I'm sure is qualified for many other jobs that would be more rewarding and less taxing on his family time.

This is more stupid than Gruden.

I think IF Peyton were to ever seriously express an interest in an official position associated with our football team, it would be a done deal as soon as it left his mouth.

Did you just say that and make yourself believe it? CBJ may be alot of things but stupid isn't one of them. There's not a single college football program in the USA that wouldnt hire Peyton in a heartbeat.

You're wrong in all counts. As others in here have mentioned it's very plausible that butch is too insecure to allow a guy like Peyton to coach here. And why the hell do people on here constantly say "butch ain't stupid that's for sure". Lol. If unmade a list of all the stupid decisions butch had made it would be 3 pages long. Most will agree he's made a lot of dumb decisions. But yet, people will then say he's not dumb. Are you not a product of your decisions. If you're not going to call someone that constantly makes incredibly dumb decisions stupid...than I'd ask what does constitute being labeled stupid?

The crap you say is what constitues being labeled stupid. As Ive said before, im no Butch fan, but you absolutely zero evidence that what you are saying is true. Butch is not a good football coach, which means he makes "what you call stupid" decisions, during the coarse of the game. Could you imagine the blowback that would happen from fans, boosters etc if it were discovered that Manning wanted to be on staff but wasnt due to CBJ? So yeah, he is not that stupid.

You continue to spew this crap despite:

- Manning showing support for CBJ on numerous occasions
- Manning giving zero indication that he wants to coach football at any level, much less a college position coach

Peyton is good at reading the situation, correct?

No chance he joins Butch. Butch may not be here long, why would Peyton jump on that ship?

I remember Peyton saying in one interview that he would never want to be a HC, but would be interested in coaching QBs someday if the opputunity came his way. We just never know what the future holds! Go Vols!🍊

If Peyton want to coach here in any capacity you better believe he could no matter who the head coach was. My god man step away from the microphone

Peyton made multiple comments expressing interest in the job. And almost as soon as those comments were made butch came out and said something to the effect of Peyton is always welcome to be around the program but that it. If butch wasn't standing in the way he could say publicly I offered Peyton the job. Why wouldn't he do that if he wanted him here?
And the sad thing is that butch is destined to fail here. He's as incompetent of a sideline coach as I've ever seen. Yet he'd rather fail on his own than bring in a guy that could help him win and share any of the credit. So I'll say again...sad and pathetic

Use your brain for once and seriously think about what you are saying. You are talking about Peyton Manning coaching at Tennessee. Peyton Manning. If he was real and sincere about wanting to come here to coach, Butch Jones would have absolutely ZERO say in the matter. Why? Because no Tennessee head football coach would be stupid enough to turn him down and the AD would likely not allow him to turn Peyton down. You hate Butch and thats fine. But to insinuate that Butch Jones doesnt want Peyton to coach here is the height of idiocy.
