With you on this, I've wondered how those with Home Schooling learn to function within a group of people? Valuable life lessons to be had at public schools..

There's a new trend called partial homeschooling. It's where a student goes to a school, usually charter or private, and is home schooled the other two days. This, in my opinion, is the best option and I support it fully for homeschoolers. The only downfall, and it's a big downfall, is that most of the parents want to be fully hands-ons in middle and upper grades. Parents tend to counter what the teacher is teaching for the subject if they think they know more than the teacher. Which is most subjects.

Secession still getting stronger poll numbers in California.

I honestly wish there was some kind of trial separation to let them try it. Not being snarky conservative. I honestly wonder how it would go.
If we close the spigot on the Colorado (not the one in Austin Texas that should've been called something else to avoid confusion), it wouldn't go too well. They would have mob rule pretty quickly and all the limousine liberals would be hauling ass out of there and broadcasting messages of support to the resistance from the Mediterranean coast. Mexico would probably seal off their northern border with California.

There are homeschool groups that allow at least some level of socialization. The problem is, many of the people that homeschool are very similar so there may be a limited variety of personalities within the group. Public or even a private school provides a much more diverse variety of personalities and forces children to learn to deal with those different personalities like they will have to in the real world. My oldest girl, 6th grade, is starting to experience some of those issues. I tell her that I sympathize and offer suggestions on how to deal with the other girls but she has got to figure out for herself the best way to handle it. Homeschoolers get lots of book learnin but they miss out on some very important life lessons. To each their own in this matter though because I am utterly appalled at the status of public education in this country.

My only home schooled relation started college last year. His problem was structure. I guess his homeschool classes took place when he was ready for them. He's fortunate that the college he attends allowed him to take off at Thanksgiving break and finish the semester online. His parents think he's now ready for realsies so he's back on campus.

Where have I been? This place seems actually sane compared to ff and pf. Anyways, I've got 2 cousins that were homeschooled (mother was a M.D.) and college was an absolute disaster for them, even though they are both super smart book wise. The mother pretty much alienated herself from the family anyways, but she is a bit nuts to begin with. Her exact words were she didn't want her kids exposed to what goes on in schools.

I have 2 nieces that went to a private school that was super small, that have a little better social skills, but overall don't have a clue about real world problems.

My opinion is it boils down to how one teaches their kids and lets them have an open mind about different ideas, opinions, etc. Can't shelter kids from the big bad world forever.

Reasons why I was fir.... I mean quit my last job

What is, posting too much on VolNation? I'll take Potent Potables for $800 Alex.

I was a teacher for a private school that was for homeschoolers so they could have a "school like environment". I got along great with the students and administration but the parents didn't like me because I was different. So I was asked to quit so they didn't have to fire me. It was fine because the parents also forced out the administration because of their support for teachers like me. Keep in mind though these parents had taught their kids all their life so they didn't know how to react when someone else taught their children and then they had to reinforce it... This was before I discovered VN so I'm gonna have trouble when I graduate and get another teaching job.

Sorry if you feel the joke was in bad taste.

Your dad is either blinded by party hyperbole or is misremembereding "stagflation" by comparing the Obama economy to the Carter economy. It's not similar by any economic measurable.

I was not making a comment about the economy and you are too stupid to realize who you were having a conversation with. My dad died with cancer 5 and 1/2 years ago. Your joke was in poor taste and this last post just shows you are a total azz hole.

The concept of "one person, one vote" is the trump card to me. It is irrelevant where they live.

I like you Dust but the forefathers would call you an ignorant MORAN. But, it is ok to disagree about it. The whole concept was not to have concentrated power centers especially a federal government but most of their concern was to not have someone with the authority of a king such as King George. Way more complicated than a message board post.

God bless you for going into to teaching. There are not enough good teachers out there today. My mother taught for her entire working life and was good at it. Teaching today is different than it was when she started. If you ever need some encouragement just let me know. I have kids in school and a good teacher can make all the difference to kids that are struggling or just need a little extra focus. Thank you again for your chosen career path!
