First we have to develop a procurement process before kicking off your domino search firm process. You would think somebody would know how to cut a check on The Hill at this point. Many VN posters are correct, this makes the Three Stooges appear competent comparatively as covered in the press.

It makes me sick to my stomach seeing all of the positive stuff about Byrne. He has come in to Alabama and is saying all the impressive things you would expect from a successful AD. Why did Battle have to retire right now? I wonder if Alabama knew if they didn't act fast we might get a shot at Byrne and decided to expedite their process.

been thinking about the situation and the potential candidates for AD given our new chancellor and the conditions with which she has been brought in....I think she tries and maybe succeeds in bringing Joan Cronin out of retirement for the AD position. what say ye VN?:question:

I'd say it safe to say we are the only program in the country hiring a chancellor, athletic director, offensive coordinator, and a key position coach all in one off season. Meanwhile still breaking in a bran new defensive coordinator, and to spice it up a few notches, ole recruiting guru and PR butt-fumbling Butch is on the hot seat.

Let's take your scenario and add to it. Say he wins the games you mentioned....that would put him at 11-1 going to the SEC championship. Surely that would be deserving of a new contract right? Who negotiates that in this case? Do we want an AD heading out the door negotiating contracts that he's not gonna be around for?

What if Helfrich wanted to come yet he insists on a 3 yr contract? Hart making that call?

If the AD position is so important that the Chancellor has to have her hand in it then it dang sure is a position that shouldn't take 9 months to fill. They dragged their feet on the Chancellor hire so here we are.

Serious question....where is the University president in this mess? Shouldn't he be calling the shots on this hire? If so, why would it look bad on the incoming Chancellor if the president hired a bad AD?

Rarely do I get "upset". I'm actually amused by all of this.

Yes, eventually "it will be fine".. Always is..

Doesn't mean that, currently, it's not a hot mess..

I don't think it's a hot mess. I think it's reality. You have to hire you chancellor first, then the ad. Any other expectation is silly. That's why the January predictions were laughable because the head person wasn't even in place yet. Fans upset over the ad is funny too. It's not like the ad is going to win football games for UT. If butch didn't like the ad sich, he could have moved on but he didn't. Which lets me know, he's ok with the process. If he's ok with process, then I am certainly ok with it. It's just the only way that it could play out. The new chancellor wants to be thorough bc it's her job to be, so let her be thorough. Maybe Phil is better than Blackburn or maybe another guy is better than either. I just hope haslam doesn't have a say. That guy has lost all creditability with his dismantling of the Browns.

Think it would've mattered if they had? Think their, or frankly most any other school's AD search process would've stretched out 6-7 months with no end in sight if they were having to hire a chancellor as well.

Not "tuned in" to Alabama, saw their announcement on twitter a couple of days ago and just noticed the stark contrast in how they went about hiring their AD and how Tennessee seems to be trying to hire theirs. And since their football program is the gold standard right now it seemed legit to make the comparison.

No reason to rush because Hart doesn't leave until June 30th. I don't think Davenport from Cincinnati has even officially started yet. The biggest mistake was Hart announcing his retirement a year away publicly. If Blackburn or Fulmer were announced today and a controversy showed up in one of the athletic programs - then what? Would Volnation allow Hart to handle it? Hart should have told the administration his intent and they should have began the process of searching for a new AD behind closed doors. It is what it is now so just be patient because they aren't announcing a new AD with Hart sticking around for several more months.

Come on man. Regardless if we agree or not on how seriously this affects things one way or the other, surely you can see that this whole process was handled poorly.

Here is some food for thought:

1.How long did it take to find a Chancellor?
2.Why did Dave Hart announce when he did (take a quick peek at the length of his contract)?
3.Where is Dipietro in this whole thing and what is he doing?
