It makes sense for UT to hire a search firm and take their time to find the best fit for the athletic department whether it is Blackburn, Fulmer or somebody else and for Davenport to have her thoughts on this hire because this and future hires will stamp her legacy at UT.

UT has known for a while that Hart was leaving as well. I can see waiting to have a chancellor in place to approve a hire but the search firm should've already had some candidates vetted BC honestly the chancellor isn't going to be the one "making" the hire.

That would be a good point if it were true but it isn't. Doug Dickey has been sick for a while. It isn't as if he just informed them a few days ago he was sick and then they negotiate a new AD within four days. I know you want that to be true just to prove a point.

Did Bama replace their Chancellor at the same time?

In other words Hart will be in place at the beggening of the season and that is so.... I don't even know where to begin with this. Why would you bring in a new AD AFTER the season starts if you know you are going to need one next year? It doesn't sound to me at all like this dr what's her name is serious about UT athletics. I know I would be dropping everything and diving in ass first into this situation right now. Wouldn't you?

Unless I'm missing something, Hart's last day is June 30, 2017. That's well before football season starts

Here's the thing, my anxious Vols fans - UT was/is faced with the need to hire both a new Chancellor and a new AD. Given the Chancellor's responsibilities, this position must be filled first. It is expected and appropriate that the new Chancellor be deeply engaged in the process of hiring the new AD.

To recap, a new Chancellor has been hired. She starts 2/15/2017. That's just the way it is. Blame the BOT, the fates, the plodding process of hiring the new Chancellor, but where we are now is "normal," at least in academia.

An analogous tale to aid your understanding: UT will research the nominal differences of available heritage turkeys and match these to desirable preparation methods. A decision will be made. An acquisition will be made. The chosen bird will be ritually slaughtered in a sanitary and healthful manner. The carcass will be turned over to the kitchen staff for prep & cooking. Then, with the cooked bird at the optimal temperature, flesh will be carved, and your sandwich will be assembled. The chefs will disregard you expressed desire regarding mayo and provide you with a sandwich dressed with the made-from-scratch mayonnaise of their fancy.

In the meantime, University life goes on. Butch will assemble the best staff he can under the circumstances. If he misses out on a hire or two because of the situation, c'est la vie. Dem's da breaks.

Know that there will be a staff in place to coach up team 121. The season will start on Sept. 4th. We will have reasons to sing Rocky Top as loud as we can many times over during the season.

Take a breath. Have a Nehi. GBO.

It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks about this hire. With the absence of any information from UT, folks just make up rumors and everyone runs with the latest version.
In the end, it will all work out and half of the fan base will be upset with the hire.

Personally, I don't see the need to vent and get upset. There's nothing happening at UT that changes anything in my life. I don't bet on any of their games and I don't brag about how they're gonna kick someone's a$$ on the football field. I let that stuff go a long time ago. Life is just too short for that stuff. I'm sure the person they hire will be good for UT.

Why not just do the job they are well paid to perform and forego the search firm? If you need a search firm to do your job for you maybe you shouldn't be in charge of the hiring process. Results from these firms are more miss than hit anyway. Be better off hiring a private investigator to vet these people.

To make it worse, Hart is getting paid the full length of his contract. He should have been fired after the Tyndall debacle, and now gets a golden parachute.
