I'm not taking sides in this argument but...when your defense, of whether this university is the laughing stock on the sports world, is to reach low enough to compare our school to Baylor's predicament...that's never a good thing.

Why are they skipping over material to get to us? Seems they're always reaching to do so. Let em. And we're thrown in with Baylor whenever a Title IX issue arises, so save the righteous indignation.

My biggest frustration with the AD situation is this, we didn't have anything lined up for life after Hart. I'm not saying it has to be Blackburn or Fulmer. However, we have known for months Hart is gone, and it appears UT has done nothing to prepare a group of candidates for Davenport to review.

When schools fire a coach mid-year, they normally have a list of coaches ready to go for when the season ends. We essentially let Dave Hart go early, and appear to have nothing ready for the future, making us look completely disfunctional. For example, the mess that appears to be trying to pick a search firm. I realize Hart is still in office, but everyone knows he is a lame duck at this point.

Hopefully I worded that the way I meant for it to sound.

Clemson has been working with our same level of talent. So I dunno what to tell you.

That's my point. The staff hasn't been able to develop/coach/whatever excuse to get us to that level with similar talent. This year's class is Butch's worst. There is zero reason to assume the trajectory will go up, based off that.

Smart may not be as good of a coach as Richt. The jury is still out. Richt recruited at a very high level when he was at UGA.

Yes he did recruit well but we know he could never get the most out of that talent. We don't know about Smart and that's scary. Anyone is going to recruit there well. Much easier recruiting job than Tennessee.

If Butch locks down the state next year we will have a monster class with who we already have plus Camron Johnson, Emerson, Litaker, Teague, Iyamma, King, Schoenwald and others. There is great in state talent next year and most of whom, at least at the moment, appear to be TN leans

True, but 2018 is even better and, as far as I know, there aren't any guys like Stevens whose family is from LA or anything like that. We could have a couple guys like Tee, but as I said, seems as tho most are UT leans. Besides, Butch did pretty good in state. He missed on Higgins, Rogers and Stevens, those two were never coming here, and Phillips which was the result of some bad evals or something. Other than that, Butch has everybody else. Also already has the best player in state committed for next year Akon with a top 10 player in Taylor. Much different than 2017 already

I wouldn't say that, but I think they know there were some missed opportunities in this class, primarily in-state. How many are really their fault, though? It's certainly fair to point out that they didn't have a great evaluation on Jacob Phillips early in the recruiting process, so that's one that could have gone differently. But did Tennessee really do anything to mess up things with Tee Higgins or Amari Rodgers? Things just happen in recruiting sometimes that you don't really expect.
I think a lot of fans always were getting a bit ahead of themselves in assuming Tennessee could land a top-five class in 2017 based on the in-state talent available. Tennessee always has been a tough state for the Vols to lock down. The 2014 class, where UT got pretty much everyone it wanted, was a rarity. In most years, it's going to be tough for Tennessee to get every single player it wants in-state, so it's not shocking to me that a few are going elsewhere.
-Callahan on if the coaches will look back at this class, particularly in state, and ask what happened?
