Agree on the jucos. This state is loaded with quality talent and two of the programs are usually in the top 20 every year.

IMO, CDS came in a lot like Butch, even though he had coached here under Delmonico for a couple years. His way was proven in Cali and even Delmonico was more of a small ball guy as well. There was nobody in the UTAD to guide him any differently even if he would have listened. He underestimated how big baseball had become and grown in the SEC overall. He was also promised a major upgrade in facilities that never really materialized. Now he's used up his goodwill, even more so than Butch.

UT needs to honor the commitment on the facilities and to baseball in general. He is now recruiting and signing some really good future pro ball quality local talent. He has Simcox fixing the run production issue. They have a hot local product in Senzel in the Reds org that should hit the bigs by 2018 at 3B that they can sell to recruits. UT needs to be a go to option for local kids and in-state jucos so they can showcase the deep talent pool we have. If the team makes a good move upward this season they need to extend him a couple of years IMO. If not, with the talent he is working with on that roster, it will be time to change.

It boggles my mind that this is what has prevented Blackburn from being AD.

Opposition to the Dooley hire should have been a basic qualification for the position.

I can get behind Phil, and I think its a good compromise, but that doesn't change my opinion that our administration is dysfunctional with regards to athletics at the moment.

My guess would be none immediately.
Being a former coach that complained it was hard to get what you needed, I'm thinking he might try to see why they're not succeeding before just determining its them.


Then kicking someone off the cliff if he decides it is them.

Serrano wouldn't even have to be fired. His contract ended last year iirc and thy gave him a one year extension.

Because of injuries to Evan,Cam and Alvin. The return game spoiled us in the previous two seasons. Medley was slightly better and Daniel was still great...just not as dynamic as the previous season. I think people latched on to Elder being gone and added the wrong numbers.

Just read an interesting fact, since 2003 either Brady, Peyton, or Roethlisberger has qb'd the afc team in the super bowl every time except Flacco one time. This year again.

Random Ruminations re: PF as AD
- Would like to have someone with CEO experience though he had a successful run as Head Coach. Great Leaders chose leaders wisely and aren't afraid to make difficult choices. Hopefully he will utilize all the resources available to him
- He definitely knows the viper pit SEC recruiting is and what it takes to be successful. Think his guidance will assist CBJ much like DAD did for CPF
- Getting the Big money boosters align will increase our bagman potential :)
- He knows the problems the lack of administrative support caused and it will be one of us first tests to address it. His relationship with the Chancellor Davenport will be a harbinger of rectifying the issues.
- First major decision may be CBJ if he doesn't win the SEC East in 2017
- Doug Matthews info will be golden given his close relationship with PF.

Overall, may not be the best person but definitely not the worst one to put into the position. Hopefully it turns out well for ALL the UTAD programs and teams.

These are all very good points, including the JUCO idea. What still hurts a lot is Vandy's ability, with that endowment fund, to essentially offer a great deal more in scholarship money than we can.

It is the only uniting hire that could have been made. No one is against it inside the building.

Fulmer loves UT. And he loves football.

We all wanted an AD who would put football first. Well this is your guy.

And from a booster perspective he is fantastic.

The entire state and conference respect him.

It is a terrific hire. I never thought it was actually possible but like I said they got this right.

The coming weeks before NSD will be interesting. I firmly believe that there are more commitments coming. How it all shakes out will be worth watching. I still see CBJ looking to add another RB, CB, and DT. How they will make room for everyone is a huge question!!!

Is Gilbert staying on as #2 or is Fulmer going to make that hire?

So, if CPF is named AD, will getting all football stadium renovations completed by Neyland's 100th anniversary (Fall 2021) be a top priority?

Gosh I hope not. I'm so sick of renovations and new buildings.

Winning the SEC before 2021 should be the top priority.

Totally agree. I don't see Vandy going away with that and Corbin in place. But both can excel in the state if UT will commit to it.

hank is spot on with the JUCO issue. It only takes an hour drive to WSCC with their tradition of excellence on the field to see what you need to fill in the gaps.

It always scares me when we bring in recruits from Florida, Texas, California in baseball..: because there are at least 15+ good baseball schools in those states that the kid could've went too. Baseball is a tricky sport to recruit in
