Colin Cowherd: UT should give Gruden $10 Million

It is funny how some will take the "click bait" that some in the media put out there and run with it. That is why folks make these stupid statements.

Go talk about losing to Vandy and SC and how much Butch sucks, in one of the other 30 threads.

:peace2:

Someone should tell cowherd we buy coaches at goodwill. So even if it was realistic we wouldnt do it.

Yes, it could be said for anyone. But, not everyone costs $8-10 million a year with a buyout that could cripple the program for a decade.

Don't know what the buyout would be, hopefully a new AD would be smart enough to not make it astronomical, and it wouldn't matter anyway.

I know I lose that argument, that's all I got on that.:dunno:

If this were real, I guess I have to go with I'm making my decision on supporting the hire based on a tad bit more emotion than logic. But, I personally don't think it's illogical.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Jon Gruden doesn't deserve 10% of the publicity he gets. He's a step above Jeff Fisher, with a Super Bowl with someone else's players against the team he just coached.

Dude already has a pile of money, would a few million more be worth all the hassle and stress? He's had years to jump back into coaching and hasn't done it. He has a great job that barring him having some episode or killing a hooker he's in no danger of losing. I just don't see what the supposed attraction is.

Gruden spent 4 years in the college game as a GA and position coach nearly 30 years ago. He's been out of coaching for 8 years. Why people continue to think he would be some savior is beyond me.

Go up $15 a ticket for each game.
100,000 x$15 is 1.5 million a game,
7 games a season at 1.5 a game is 10.5 million. Problem solved and Gruden head coach.

The University Way = go up $15/ticket and $5 for hot dogs, give a coach $4m a year for mediocre results and life championships, and cash in.

I always knew Cowherd was an idiot. While I would like to see Gruden as the H Coach, He has stated numerous times he did not want to coach at the College level. How many times are we going to see this suggestion again.

Two questions:

1. Which assistants would not be willing to join his staff; and
2. Which prospects would not want to play for him?

Answer to both is almost none. Making a hire at that level signifies a commitment to success that people take notice of. Plus, JG is a PR bonanza only he can do it by just being who he is and not having to resort to the sort of antagonistic stuff that Kiffin had to do.

Do I think we get him? Hell no. Do I think we should get him? Oh yeah.

Especially since the formula for winning in college is so different.

The NFL is set up to have parity of talent. That's why the good teams still lose 3-4 games every year and most all bad ones still win that many.

NFL coaches coach. They are far more x's and o's, schemes, stunts and game planning. They have a GM that says "here's your roster. See what you can do with it."

College almost all about the talent. Saban's formula is pretty simple: have better players and more of them.

What is JG ever done in his life that assures he can do that?

It seems that if you want to open the vault, you would do it in the interest of stealing a top, proven head coach from another P5 program. That is a much better bet, IMO.

I'm curious why people are so sure of this.

I get the excitement part. But he hasn't coached in college since 1991 and hasn't been in coaching period since 2008. Can he recruit?

Know I'm going to be in the minority on this one, but I think his NFL tenure is mildly overrated. What he did in Oakland (taking a mediocre-to-bad team into the playoffs) is actually more impressive than what he did in Tampa. He won a Super Bowl there in his first year with a historically good defense someone else assembled, then was completely mediocre after that for several years. Didn't win a single playoff game after that SB.

Stop it with facts and logic. There are people on here who still pull for Riley Ferguson to be our starting QB. This love fest over John Gruden to me is nothing more than a man crush. I don't get it. He had a poor relationship with his players here in Tampa... Don't think that translates well when it comes to coaching college players. All accounts he is a pretty self centered individual.

Saban's formula is he's going to coach the hell out of the defense and make you a pro. Saban's ability to coach is what sets apart, not that he's just a great recruiter winning on talent.

Lol.

Don't even know where to start.

Anyone remember who Gruden beat with "Tony's boys"?

Somehow "his boys" doesn't matter to some people. Thanks for trying though....I've made the tried to make the point too many times.
