Just like DeBord, after an exhaustive search interviewing multiple candidates...

If it works out well for us, like Debord did, in my opinion, I would grudgingly accept it. My feeling is that I would much prefer Weinke or another candidate over Canales.

Works for me but I think we only take 3, Sterling OR Conliffe. Of course that will change 5 times between now and NSD.

If his academics look to be in order the WR might end up being Javonta Payton.

Where in the hell did you get your info from? Smdh.

Here are all his QBR ratings for every game this year.

There seems to be a discrepancy among the NETWORKS in how they calculate QBR...

I went to ESPN.com under NCAA and TEAMS....under schedule you can click on each individual game and see the QBR under BOX SCORES.....

His QBR for the App. State game is here at this address:

Appalachian State vs. Tennessee - Box Score - September 1, 2016 - ESPN

I have always used ESPN to track games and stats....maybe their calculation of QBR only takes into account the QB's PASSING PERFORMANCE.....I don't know....

FOX's QBR may actually include running stats in their calculation....that would explain the higher ratings...

QBR, in my understanding, is a stat used to measure the QB's overall contribution in producing a WIN for the team...it is a contested marker of performance, too.

Regardless---my CONCLUSIONS from the QBR ratings listed on ESPN--and from WATCHING him play over the last 4 years is what I said before on this site..

Case in point....Do any of you actually think that Dobbs' passing ability and accuracy are better than Tyler Bray's??? To think so would be absurd in my mind....

Dobbs lacks the QB abilities required for success in the NFL.....

1. Passing Accuracy...windows in NFL are smaller...Passing precision must be BETTER....
2. PRE-Snap ability to read defenses, recognize coverages, and get the team into a better play...
3. Ability to run thru his progressions and make correct decisions...

Like I've said on here many, many times before---Dobbs is an INCREDIBLE ATHLETE who plays QB....His athletic ability--specifically his ability to RUN THE BALL-- contributed more to our victories on the field than his passing over his career.

But he won't be able to succeed as a QB in the NFL by running out of trouble....sooner or later in the NFL--a QB has to be able to make those throws into very narrow windows to extend drives and put points on the board.

It is my opinion that Dobbs will not be able to do that on the next level. He has the athletic ability to play in the NFL, but not at the QB position...

Time will tell if my opinion is correct....

On Canales interview:

In talking to some people last night and this morning, I'm told it went good. Remember he has interviewed here before so it was more of a refresher than a get to know. Butch is going to interview more people and will take time with this QB hire imo.

I think he makes some sense in areas like a veteran guy who has helped game plan and call plays. I get the skepticism of some. I think he is positioned well but wouldn't call it a done deal. Butch has other people to talk too. Hope to have another name or two later today.

I'm thinking one of Callaway, Williams, Johnson, or Murphy can become a go to guy next season even with losing Malone and potentially Byrd to defense. I have to give a lot of credit to Butch and Z for cutting the rotation down and allowing the best guys to get in a rythm. We don't need 6-7 guys anymore to play an entire game.

What little I saw of Johnson, I was impressed. He looked extremely quick, don't know if he will be a slot or stretch the field receiver but I thought he looked good!

He is a good one. Very underrated because of lack of camps, academics and having to play out of position some at QB. The QB part comes from someone at the school so I assume it is true. I didn't watch any of their games to know for sure. He is a guy we want if he can qualify. Ole miss recent offer is interesting hope it doesn't come into play

Johnson looked smooth and natural out there. I think he helps fill that Malone void some. He was a guy in HS that could get behind the secondary for the deep ball. Interested to see more of Callaway and to finally see Williams. I hope Byrd is on defense but if not he better get a ton of touches every game

I agree on Johnson, and smooth is the exact word that came to mind when I saw him play this year. He and Calloway both looked good to me, and I'd bet both grow into outside WR. I'm really hoping Williams can step up because I'd really love to see Byrd move to corner. He was the best DB in the Army AA game last year by far IMO.

SIAP

Fant and Murphy both have academic question marks per RC

I believe RC also has previously said that people around Murphy as well as the staff seemed to be confident he will end up alright. IIRC, it's a test score he needs to get up.

This was the first I heard it on Fant. I don't think RC mentioned any details on his potential issues.

To tag onto Ron's earlier post regarding Walt Wells, LWS posted the following on TOS:

South Carolina: Source tells FootballScoop former Youngstown State head coach Eric Wolford is expected to join the South Carolina staff coaching the offensive line. Wolf served as assistant offensive line coach for the 49ers the past two seasons and spent the 2009 season coaching the offensive line at South Carolina.

He further seemed to imply Wells would stick around with UT, but did not give much of an indication if he would be the new OL coach. RC mentioned that Wells has been a key guy in recruiting the mid-state, specifically, the recruitment of Calbert.
