Larry Scott at OC might be what everyone secretly wants

Sorry, but this isnt the place.. nor the time in butch's tenure here to trot out a OC who's never called plays before, butch cant afford to do that next year, or he might be looking for a job at seasons end.

With no one else being talked about as much it's likely going to happen.

Which means a rough season next year.

Scott to OC
Bring in Weinke to coach QB's
Fire Mahoney
Fire Martinez
Stripling retires, bring in Hoke

Perfect plan...for a Program in the lower half of the Conference...that has lost 3 out of the last 5 to Vandy...

No clue if Scott is ready for that position. Wts, if they could do a 1yr contract (fair, he gets his chance, we're not married into a buyout) I'd be ok with that.
Next season is basically a rebuild. If he isn't ready, it's not like he is dashing my championship dreams.
If he turns out to be good at the job, we're all pleasantly surprised and can negotiate a contact.

People really liked the Scott hire initially, said we wouldn't be able to keep him long because someone would steal him away... as an oc. A short "prove yourself" contract is ok with me *if we don't have the leverage for anyone proven right now.

Simply....No

Yep. Living in a fantasy world, but I dream of Blackburn getting hired before the OC. He "encourages" Butch to hire Kelly. If things go as expected, UT will end up with Kelly as their new head coach. Yeah...I'm willing to sell my soul for an Bama type run.

The big thing we need on offense is for the offensive line to get way better in a hurry. That alone will make our offense good as Dobbs' running abilities majorly hid our problems there.

Secondly, would like someone with experience calling plays in college. Hiring Scott means we failed at recruiting a good OC.

i dont see a problem in it honestly, Butch will have Larry Scott on a short leash. Bring in Chris Weinke and you open up a door to IMG academy. im def ok with this.

Getting football recruits from IMG is like eating at Ruth Chris Steakhouse. Feast well grasshopper!

I believe hiring an outsider to run our O has a MUCH bigger risk of failure than allowing Scott to take over at OC. I mean, just remember what happened to Fulmer in a similar situation a couple years back. He brought in a hot commodity, and now he's doing Ford commercials.

If we stick with the same offense does it really matter who the OC is? Go out and hire an offensive guru or a caretaker of the current offense? I am for the guru.

We scored a lot of points as long as Dobbs was running well. When he didn't it was shut down. This offense has never produced a marginal running attack without Dobbs(who rushed for 800 yards, 200 more than Kamara). Guess what, Dobbs is gone.

there can't be any bigger risk than a guy that's never called plays.

Butch doesn't have a year for a new system install. Keep the system, and allow someone that understands it to call plays. The system works, just look at the stats. Let Scott make some changes as he sees fit, maybe with another CO-OC. I don't know why people want to fix something that isn't broken.

Please stop giving Debord/Butch so much credit like they are some kind of genius play callers. They couldn't score on Appy, SC, or Vandy and there was a ton of luck that went into this season. Anyone should have been able to call plays with the talent we had this year. This was one of the most talented teams UT has ever had and we couldn't even make it to atl. Yeah the D was beyond banged up. But Debord/Butch was shut down by 2 of the worse teams on the conference

When his head was in the game Hurd and Kamara were absolutely lethal. Hurd checked and and Kelly came on late. Next year hopefully we'll see the RBs take a bigger part nxt season

Calling plays is not exactly rocket science lol. The hardest part of being an OC is new installation. Our problem has been a lack of aggressive play calling and the defense putting us in tough spots. We could have pulled away from some teams at the end of the year if we would have just went for the throat earlier in the game.

There's a lot to it otherwise everybody would be one. Debord never got a rhythm and at times became predictable. Tennessee should have stepped on throats but embarrassing people isn't what some coaches are whether the fans agree or not.

The Tennessee way just as cheap as possible and hope for the best. Any hire that's popular to keep the seats filled and money flowing.:lolabove::lolabove:
