CBS thinks Chip Kelly...

Kelly had a Heisman winning QB his last year at Oregon and then didn't even have control of player Personnel until his final year at Philadelphia in which he got fired and then one year at San Francisco and gets fired! NFL defensive coordinators found a way to stop his offense and he fell flat on his face! I'm not so sure I would hold Chip Kelly in as high regards as you. Don't get me wrong, he's a good coach. But great? I don't think so!!! The next school he lands at will be a playoff Contender for the next 10 years?!? You're putting Kelly on Saban's level and they aren't even in the same league!

I agree. Much of his success at Oregon came when previously dominant Pac 12 programs were struggling. USC on probation and bad coaching hires, UW with a series of coaching mis-steps. I would also question Kelly's willingness to recruit top defensive talent. He has demonstrated a stubborn streak, and the (now expired) show cause penalty would still give me pause. I'm not saying he's a bad (college) coach, but I'm not convinced he's the slam dunk hire some think he is.

Sure from above you can't hold injuries against Butch... However, with all the injuries, we still lost 2 games due to coaching Malpractice in Vandy and USC. Injuries had nothing to do with losing those games... I will also say that OT Coaching against the aggies was lackluster as well.

Near lose to appy with a healthy team too

"1. Tennessee: Listen, Butch Jones has done a magnificent job of leading Tennessee to multiple life championships, but at some point, you have to wonder if Tennessee will become more interested in division, conference, and possibly even national titles."

Can't say I'd be opposed to seeing Kelly's offense at UT after what we've had to suffer through lately. Ain't no Kelly offense going to lose to Vandy or SC and especially not to both. I like Butch, but I'd have to vote for Kelly. Long-suffering Vol fans deserve this sort of upgrade.

That "Champions of Life" stuff is a sign of an incredibly lazy journalist....that has run it course(some obviously think there's at least one ounce of easy jargon good for at least three lines of copy to cut short time invested). Its kinda like still laughing at "Where's the Beef?"...I mean it's over and even the non clever people are through with it....

Out at you calling Colin Kaepernick capable. He's one of the worst QBs in the league and he doesn't know how to read a defense. He has a long throwing motion and takes off running when option 1 isn't open. He's by far a better offensive mind than Butch and Debord and they didn't seem to have trouble scoring in most games. College coaches had film on Spurrier, Saban, and Pete Carroll from their NFL days and that didn't seem to help much

Spurrier and Saban (A defensive-minded guy) are two of the best football coaches ever to coach the game and Pete Carroll played in the Pac-12 and only had to contend with Oregon much of his tenure at USC because Stanford wasn't very good at the time. Also, at the Collegiate level, you get to recruit players and certain schools have much more talent than others whereas in the NFL most teams are close to even. Pete Carroll was pulling SEC caliber players to USC when no other school could do that at the time. Similar to the way Harbaugh and Meyer are doing now. Not to mention, football has completely changed within the past 10 years. It has became much more dynamic.

Chip Kelly was dominating the PAC 12 four short years ago with Harbaugh at Stanford. He's not a dinosaur thats been out of the game. Oregon played in the National Title game a couple years after he left so he clearly left them with talent.

Not a chance Butch would entertain even the thought of hiring his potential replacement. On top of that, does anyone really think UT would pay a coach like Kelly the kind of money he'd command? Pipe dream.....just a notch below Gruden/Manning. This is UT we're talking about. We don't hire guys like this. Hell....we don't even hire a slam dunk at AD when he's gift wrapped and ready to crawl to campus for the chance to lead this program. Kelly coaching at UT.....ppfffttt.

Yeah, they shouldn't have coached Dobbs to throw a horrible pick

Our current boosters and or administration are to afraid to go after such a name. Potentially become to powerful for them.to control maybe.

Yeah. It took him awhile to get his opportunity. Butch Jones got demoted from OC to RB coach at CMU

In 2004 when BRIAN Kelly took over for DeBord? Fact he kept him on the staff showed his value. And New Hampshire was and still is a lower division school. Career assistant at a lower level school. Butch moved UP to West Virginia next.

Scott Frost and Helfrich recruited the talent. Chip did have a sweet deal with Willie Lyles tho...maybe he can be a QC? :)

It's all moot because Chip has proven to be the better coach since getting his shot.

Dennis Franchione was a star all the way to Texas A&M...methods stopped working. Coached at the top level more than four years.

Oregon was pretty good when he was coach because it's proven he CHEATED and PAID kids to come to school there.

Just like Pete Carroll and laMe kiffScum did at USC.

Carroll and Kelly both ran for their lives and got lucky to get a NFL job.

laMe did thhe same thing at the Oakland Faiders.

After the Cheaters left both USC and Oregon went to total crap annd are just now starting to recover.

USC is doing better simply because there's so much talent close to them.

Oregon is going to take longer without the Nike $$$ buying players.

Only a complete Moron would want this for our beloved Vols.

Especially with a arrogant, egomaniac that's too lazy to recruit!

I really can't believe we have so many Vols fans with their heads so far up their (_)_).

VFL...GBO!!!

If UTK had the opportunity to hire Saban today there are folks who would still be on here crying that Butch is the better coach for the Vols and trying to justify their opinion based on defensive production numbers of the Cleveland Browns in the early 90s. You know who you are and so do the rest of us. In the end you will probably be proven wrong because I just don't see how Butch will ever win the East in Knoxville after blowing it last year. Why don't Y'all get on board and look to the future? It's happening whether you like it or not.

The only way Chip Kelly ever comes to Tennessee is if we happen to schedule the team that hires him.

What was his reasoning for leaving Bama for aTm? I don't recall. What I remember is the a$$-whoopin they put on UT in '02. He seemed to have Bama on the right track. Was it the 'AA? I know Bama was on probation in '03.
