This offense won't go without a running QB, unless butch has another level to his offense we haven't seen.

This offense does not require a running QB. You have only seen this offense with a sub par oline. This year should have been better and Dobbs would have run less, but Hall and Thomas were hurt early and other injuries followed.
In 2017 the oline should be much better and much deeper. 2018 will be awesome with Mays and Smith. NFL scouts are already drooling over Mays.

He didn't really complete most of my list though. In YEAR 4(!) we lost to Vanderbilt, South Carolina, had starters in the game and sweated it out against App State and OHIO(!). We did break the streak against Florida but still have a miserable one going against Bama.

He probably deserves another year. But I dont think it's that crazy to think we could have hired a good HC this offseason. If we had a new AD in place awhile back this may have happened. Who knows. That's just my opinion and I don't need anybody to agree with it.

He's built a solid foundation. I'm not trying to downplay what he's done here. I just think this was probably the year to make the change and still hit the ground running if we were going to ever do it. If we make it a year or two down the road, then most of our 2015 class full of stars are mostly gone and we're likely looking at another rebuild. I just don't think we will attract as good of a coach at that point.

But who knows. None of this matters.

If we had taken your advice and fired Butch who in this world would come to UT to coach after firing a coach who had improved or tied this year in wins every year? I know some of you want to forget about all the injuries but if you want to take that into consideration it would make it all the more crazy.

I can answer that for you, no one.

If #12 the starter Butch will be packing his office up week 6.

Wouldn't be THE reason tho...if it happens JG could be the starter as well. He'd get fired for lack of results or total failure, not because a segment of a message board's anointed savior didn't get the starting nod.

So it is now Friday afternoon, which is the best time to break controversial news, right? So if we were to have an underwhelming hire at OC, I would think we would hear something today. If it is a more exciting hire, then we would see it released early next week so we can be talked about all week. Of course I could be off by a week or three, but the same should apply later as well as today.

Seems to be an excessive amount of hate for Dormady around here. Not sure why.

I think it's because some feel that JG may be one of those "Transcendent" talents like Tebow, Cam or Manziel. Nobody really sees that in Dormandy, but I don't know about that, IMO Q can sling it. He might be a lot better than any of gives him credit for.

We don't have any player named Dormandy.

I'm going to get absolutely slammed for this, but I see some Aaron Rodgers in Dormady.

Bring the hate, people.

I just think we have a hard time next year if we revert to a pro style type offense. This offense is night and Day with a mobile QB. Yes, Dormady is light years better than Worley, but I'm just not sure that a pro style QB can thrive in this offense

I'm usually with you but QD ran this in HS, his dad being the architect of the offense. Is he as mobile as Dobbs, no, but not many are but I think he can run the offense effective.
As some others have noted, the pass likelihood should keep the defense from crowding the front making it easier for the RB's to have room. Butch has both kinds and I have confidence they can accommodate QD nicely.

I'm in the whoever wins group. If Dormady wins great. If guarantano wins great. But don't assume we're going to have a bad year just because the QB you back doesn't start

M.O.B.I.L.I.T.Y is the name of the game imojmotifwiw

I will never for the life of me understand why you guys compare the merits of backup quarterbacks we've never seen play meaningful snaps

Because this is everybody's opportunity to state opinions as hard facts about things they have very little knowledge about and have other people chime in with support to pump up their ego. Doest bother me, but I do enjoy getting a laugh out of it. I envision me walking into the shop while a mechanic is working on my car and telling him how to rebuild my engine because I watched a YouTube video (psa-I have no mechanical aptitude). Nobody on this site has ANY IDEA how many games we will win with Dormandy at QB. But it's cute that they are so emphatic about how much they DO KNOW that answer.

Like many here, I grow weary of the "he's white, he must be slow, and we're screwed without a DT QB" narrative. Unless I'm misremembering, it seemed like most of Dobbs big runs were the result of a breakdown, not intent. I would argue that we use our QBs mobility as duct tape, rather than as a feature of the offense. If the OL can buy Dormady any time at all, he'll burn them with his arm, and his legs become less important. As long as he is a threat to get 5 yards on a keeper, he'll be fine.

The flip side is that if his arm beyond 10 yards isn't any better than Dobbs, yeah, he's pretty much toast. If opponents can stack the box without cost, they'll kill him.

Yeah I mean that's the question and I'm sure the athletic Dept is thinking similarly to you.

I just think this is a much more attractive job than you seem to think. With a ton of talent to build around and unlimited resources and fan support.

This could have been a much different search than the one in 2013 and I think some great coaches would see it as a great time to take this job.

You're probably right, maybe I'm just more excited about JG's potential

Personally, I think we are getting hung up on here on the DT QB thing. There's mobile and there's true DT. QD is mobile, like Tee Martin was. Like Baker Mayfield is and Will Greer was. They are pass first, but can get outside the pocket to buy more time or take off with it and gain 5-10 yards. There is nothing about his work in games that can tell you how he will be because they were running limited plays primarily in mop up time. In practice he is mobile.

JG is true dual threat. He has the gun and the feet. He can bring the X factor. What we don't know is if he has the ability to read coverages as well as can he develop the touch that Dormady already has?

Then there is the leadership factor. Who does the team respond best with at QB?

Which is why we need a strong QB coach and OC, which we did not have.

Important, but decision making is importanter. Will be exciting to see who has it.

Mobility covers up other limitations. Goods reads plus a good arm will trump mobility every time, but a highly mobile guy can be successful in the absence of the other two.

If Dormady does win the position, I hope we air it out a lot more. Seems pretty impressive in the intermediate to longer throws.

I had never really considered that the hit Hurd took at UGA would have zapped his passion and desire to play football, but I suppose it's possible.

And, if you consider that the hit had any kind of long-term effect on him as a football player (whether that effect would cause him to quit altogether or not), it makes it less likely to me that he'd be interested in playing TE, where you're much more prone to take hits like the one that got laid on him in Athens.

He probably shouldn't have loafed and got knocked out then.

One of the few things I miss about Bray was hitting those long throws. One of the things I don't miss about Bray was going to plays like that on 3 and 1.

Hell, if I had Justin Hunter to throw to I might do the same thing. 😂
