Hubbs just tweeted that Butch is interviewing candidates this weekend. Any got any info on that?
I just wonder if Butch didn't get a bowl game in year 2 and went 7-6 in both years 3-4, how that would change people's perspective. Would negas be more happy with that?
I think the fact he went 9-4 in year 3 was a little ahead of schedule and raised people's expectations for this year. That is what we NEEDED to happen. We are back to being disappointed with a 9 win season. Butch has changed the culture, but to his own detriment unfortunately
Someone brought some Hubbs notes to the Football
Talk thread in the recruiting forum. Sounding more and more like it's gonna be a CO-OC thing with Larry Scott and a QB coach. Sounded like Jones is set to interview Weinke, Canales, and a third unnamed candidate for the position.
He didn't "barely miss" on the SECCG and frankly that kind of "moral victory" is the pathetic sign of a losing attitude.Back to back 9 win seasons and barely missed out on both an SECCG and a Sugar Bowl? What a terrible year!
Your 3 wins on the field statement is laughable too. You're essentially claiming you're upset because he hasn't had back to back 12 win seasons
I think most of our fans are just tired of mediocrity, and losing to USC and Vandy is just that. This fan base deserves a coach who can produce a competitive team. No one is sure this guy can do it.
When you look at the record of this program over the last 10 years and the fact that you are still putting 100,000 fannies in the seats, then the problem is not your fan base. Stop blaming the fans for setting expectations here. Lack of expectations will lead to apathy and that will kill a program.
If Canales is hired and is a good QB coach, promoting Scott or Azzani shouldn't necessarily be considered as a bad move. After all, it's Butch's offense and it was very productive this season.Dave Hooker seems to have a good read on Jones.
I'd expect Azzani or Scott to get the coordinator title and Jones to bring his buddy from N Texas in from obscurity in Canales to help with the QB.
Find it asinine to think a guy like Dorsey is gonna leave a team that made the Super Bowl last season to come be a yes man for Jones.
My money is on Canales if this is true. Big friend of Butch. The rest of the interview process will be for show. Then will announce that we did a nationwide search and came up with the best QB coach in the country.

I think it's safe to assume that Butch, Scott and Azzani all participated in offensive game planning meetings, etc. Scott and Azzani probably have a very good understanding of Butch's system and his game planning and situational play calling strategies.
If the offense ain't broke, there's no need to overhaul it or replace it. That doesn't mean you can't still improve it though.
If Butch wants some outside ideas, a fresh spin, then off-season consulting from outsiders is a good way to accomplish that. For example, Saban & Kiffin did it with Tom Herman.
Making some splash OC hire of someone who will want to run his own system typically means pretty major system changes such as differrent terminology, strategies, etc. and a substantial learning curve. That's risky and could result in a temporary lapse in offesnive production.
It appears to me Butch is being pretty sensible.
