It's exactly what bill oreilly and his guest from California was saying last night...
Fake news everywhere I guess?
-HubbsTwo names we expect Jones to speak with in the next two-to-three days are Chris Weinke, who was with the Los Angeles Rams this fall and current Utah State assistant head coach Mike Canales. We expect Weinke to be in Knoxville later today and get the first shot to impress Butch Jones. Tennessee's only known tie to Weinke is strength coach Rock Gullickson (more on that in a minute
-HubbsWe believe there is at least one more quarterback coaching candidate that Jones will visit with in the coming days, but at this point were not comfortable with a name to mention.
-HubbsIn talking to a lot of people this week and in listening to Butch Jones visit with the media Tuesday night, the impression is that it will be two people with Larry Scott looking like the front runner to be promoted to offensive coordinator to take over for an offense that scored more points in 2016 than any offense in school history. Scott's involvement with the offense, particularly the second half of the year, was significant according to multiple sources particularly with formation and personnel stuff in game planning
This is one thing we actually agree on 100 percent.
It kills me to see how many guys on here have said "we're just not an elite program like many of you think", & basically saying "8 regular season wins is average for this school what's all the fuss about" & things of that nature.
Downplaying our own success as a program & being okay with mediocrity. Baffles my mind.
There's no reason we shouldn't be an elite football team year in & year out. Facilities are there, fan support is there, money is there, in state talent is rapidly improving, close proximity to recruiting hotbeds (Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville etc.)
But the reports are that Helfrich cooled on the whole ordeal, not that Butch made any move or anything like that.
Sounds more like Helfrich heard there would be a buyout and noped out before any earnest talks were made. So Butch just had to move down whatever list he had to begin with.
Having said that, honestly I wonder how earnestly he actually pursued Helfrich and to what extent their meeting was for show. Butch had some interviews with OCs before Debord that were obviously just meant to give the appearance of due diligence. He said a lot of similar things about fit and not wanting to overhaul the system.
If Butch's top target was so willing to make a move to highly regarded guy who'd take the reigns of the offense, why would his #2-3 targets both be in house guys?
Doesn't make much sense to me.
