I am so tired of all of the "blah blah blah this is historically a mediocre program blah blah blah we should only except 8-9 wins ever" posts.

We are Tennessee. Not Vanderbilt.

Yes, we ARE Tennessee. But, even through our "winning eras", there were still dips (see below if posts correctly). We are trending back up, and certainly Jones' responsibility to keep the trajectory going upwards. Guess I'm in the camp that everything's not great, but it's not terrible either... Hoping right OC is picked...

Dude said he didn't want him here successful or not.
I'm not arguing that Jones has been or will be successful.
I just don't understand not wanting him here if he did start winning championships.

What he said was a contradiction. Maybe he was talking about Butch's and some fans idea of success........

that Butch is content to stay here for a long time! Yes I said it! So many of you want/expect him to fall on his face! The fact is this University is an absolute mess from an administrative standpoint...and guess what...it ALL STARTS THERE! So if/when Butch is shown the door don't expect for there to be an endless line of high profile coaches to come knocking! We should know this by now! So for those of who who want nothing more than for Butch and Co. to get shown the door...you better be careful what you wish for! Volnation for the most part has developed into one massive NEGAFAN hotbed...and that's unfortunate. Fans see it, players see it, and recruits see it. If you don't think that it matters...you're delusional! Volnation has become poisonous cancer to this program! For those of you who want to defend this notion..really?? 80% of the threads on here are negative condescending threads and posts about Butch and Co....don't pretend otherwise! Many of you need to grow up..develop a reasonable football IQ...or GET THE HE.. OUT! So many of you (not all of course) are clueless as to the nuts and bolts that make up a quality football program..and you take for granted what we finally building again.

Been fan 48 years this fan is a 50-50 split all the time, remember we ran of a HALL OF FAME COACH never been the same sense,:thud:

That's called middle of the road.
He had his shot and failed. It happens.

I'm so thankful that occasionally the REAL fans find the time to post something so poignant and stirring. It really keeps the fanbase grounded, centered, and focused on what's important.

The Buzzcut-Messiah shall unite us all around 8 win seasons and consecutive lower tier bowl games. Recruits love that stuff too.

He underperformed this year by losing to two teams we had no business even being in a close game with. Injuries or not. I perfectly understand why many think Butch isn't the guy.

He won one the peanut gallery said he wouldn't, recall that 11 year streak with UF ending?

Hey OP. Did you cut and paste this from sometime during the season in 2008? Sounds familiar.

Tell me where 8 wins come from if your so sure. It's that simple

YOU'RE the one saying 8 wins can't/won't happen. Where are these guaranteed losses?

Edit: Let me save you the trouble:

Tennessee doesent tackle well enough to beat tech LOL
Tennessee won't beat Florida on the road with a green QB Guessing
Georgia will be better and Tennessee needed a miracle to win this year.
You mean after Dawgs almost won by miracle?
Bama is what it is Agree
LSU is what it is Which is what?
Jones can't beat Muschamp. BS

If only you had taken time during the last 4 years to come up with something fresh, original, and relevant.

Things going south on that deal in no way precludes me from having an opinion.

Some are doomed to failure because they expect a quick fix.

There were a lot on here that were unhappy when we were 5-0. Didn't win by enough, lesser teams, lucky to win, etc. etc. whine...
Some people will never be happy.

Recap: When Butch arrived, he handsomely reminded volnation (at the team meeting) he'd coached 6 years and won 4 championships. Several years later, he started saying it takes 6-7 years to build a program (as if we haven't had a football program these 100+ years). Several years later still, he reminded us that his 4th yr guys are champions of life after having won no on-field championships.

Oh how the narrative changes.

Maybe he should have no spoken so highly about his prior championships?

I'm still all in with this coach.

Come on coach, what will it take for us to do better than back to back 8-4 seasons in years 3 and 4, on the field?

It is very relevant given the fact that it proves you were spouting off then as though it was a done deal just like you are now.
