Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXXI

I made a comment in jest a few weeks ago but now I'm making it more seriously. If we, as fans, want our voices hear by this administration then we need to call in on National sports radio, like finebaum, and sign a petition. This is literally the only way for this people to understand that they are being idiots about the AD hire.

Or don't buy tickets to games. That will get their attention.

In theory, it's hard to argue with refocusing priorities on academics, but I've soured so much on the value of University education over the last 2 years.

I am very afraid that " refocusing on academics" will in reality mean doubling down on speech codes, safe spaces, and ideological echo chambers. All at the expense of UT athletics, something I've loved since childhood.

Wow Weinke would be interesting. He has a a lot of recruiting connections and has worked with some of the best young QBs when they were in HS/College ranks.

Not the greatest output this year but I mean he had Kennum and Goff. Not exactly a good hand to be dealt

Guess we have to see the hire first. I mean she could go out and hire an amazing AD and then we would all look stupid

You start it off by calling Finebaum today

This is my fear. I'm worried that we have let political correctness take over and are looking for that in an AD. That would mean the end of UT football competing at a high level

Honestly, if I'm reading correctly (scary I know) these people couldn't care less if ticket sales went down.

In reality, cutting off donations is the only real way to communicate dissatisfaction. If UT continues to tank in the big sports, I think you will see it happen. I'm seriously considering it for the first time since I've been in a position to make them.

I believe Butch has been in Knoxville today. I don't think Bajaikian is a factor. I was surprised he came to bowl practice last year in Tampa as things ended pretty sour when he left Knoxville. to go to the NFL.

Brent is saying 247's report that Butch was in Tampa meeting with CMB is BS.

So the boosters are all okay with the admin and Davenport destroying athletics? They will just continue to give their money anyway?! Is no one in a power position standing up to this? Have they pushed Manning, Fulmer, Majors, and others away too?

They do but they aren't stupid. They know that an AD hire isn't going to keep fans away especially TN fans. TN fans came to games during the roughest of times and they always will. The people in power know what keeps fans away and that's a HC losing. So if we are winning and have hope we are coming. Fan apathy only truly sets in when fans are 100 percent done with the HC

I've lost track of what everybody is complaining about. Some evil lady that is bound to screw up our Vols and we'll never beat Alabama again?

Probably so

Mostly just handwringing. But reading the tea leaves it appears that:
- we have a head coach that would rather go down with the ship than bring in an outside offensive mind to change his system;
- the Chancellor and administration that is perfectly willing to let a great candidate walk and delay an AD hire for months because they don't want a "Tennessee guy"; and
- UT is no longer interested in being a top athletic program.

Nothing in stone, but I'm not optimistic.

Vol Colonel is saying the admin doesn't want Blackburn BECAUSE he is a UT guy, that's the negative on him. Not only do I believe it, it breaks my heart. They are trying to destroy this university and the proud athletics programs. With what LAVol has said all morning and Hyams saying the search will go on into the spring--- connect the dots. Doesn't look good at all.

i just don't understand how people just sit back and let this stuff go on. How come the big boosters don't speak up?

If all of this is true and we continue to hire non-UT people then they will destroy what took so long to build.

It's almost as if they are ok with being just "Ok". Look at the women's bb program, it's almost mediocre at this point. The softball team is above average, and I remember when TN swim teams were very good.

We have the potential to have one of the best Ad depts in the country and yet they find ways to screw the pooch.

I have had this discussion with my father in law regarding the annual tuition hikes. He wants to know where all of the money goes. What are our institutions of higher learning doing with the money?

I have always felt that career academics are in their own world. They don't understand the real world, and it seems to get worse.

I said it just a few weeks ago, but UT does not need to become a high level "research institution." Yes, research is part of learning, but the school was created to educate its residents to prepare them for the real world. We can leave the research to the schools out west.
