Went back and looked and Dooley's 2012 offense did put up a lot of points. That may have been a good change that just couldn't be overcome by wretched defense. We scored 35 or more in 8 games that season. Amazing to lose 7 in the SEC with that kind of scoring output. May be a record.

Yeah I know. Should've won east in 2012. Had a brain fart in 2008 but still should've been pretty good if we didn't change everything to Clawfense.

Changing from 4-3 to 3-4 in 2012 was insane.

Whether or not it means he will be a good OC, I don't know. However, I don't believe his head coaching stint is irrelevant. It means he had to game plan and lead his team to victories. When the buck stops at you in 6 games, that's not irrelevant.

For deciding how well he'd call plays it is. I wouldn't want Dabo As an OC just because he's a great head coach. It's two totally different jobs.

Interesting point on Muschamp-- in retrospect, do you think Butch's losses to Florida were unlucky or poorly gameplanned? I don't know the answer, but I'd like to think that properly conditioned Tennessee team could grind out wins against less talented teams like SC and Vandy-- like the Mizzou game in 2015.

I'd like to think that it was both unlucky and poorly gameplanned, honestly. More towards poorly game planned and game managed though.

We're going to need a QB whisperer who can recruit. Wonder who's on deck for that? Ken Dorsey?

I'm not convinced that Butch has plateaued. Whether we won't to admit it or not, there was a TON of adversity this year and anyone who thinks the injuries didn't play a factor in our losses is just fooling themselves. Yes, we should have beaten Vandy and SC anyway, and he isn't perfect. But he is also making good changes. Hiring Rock is huge, making a change at DB coach is huge, I think he has a chance to breakout. Next year there will be no expectations and WHEN Shoop improves the defense, as I believe he will, we could surprise some folks. Win and recruiting picks back up and everything moves forward.

All of this is aspirational at best. The fact is, the talent level is declining. Win and recruiting picks back up? I can't quite pinpoint where I've heard that before...

"Some other names to watch as a potential quarterbacks coach is Jeff Durden who is at Richmond and Mike Canales at Utah State. Durden has been at UTC and Canales was the head coach at North Texas last year."

- Austin Price

This is getting depressing. I log off last night with pie in the sky talk of Helfrich etc.

Catch up today and its names I have never heard of and people coming to grips with being ok with Scott as the OC.

If Butch hires within for the OC he is done. He will be setting it up perfect for a run at Kelly or Tee next year if Kelly is even interested and no sanctions.

Larry Scott or Zach Azzanni is seeming like our OC then imo.

Helfrich is not coming. CBJ wants to keep the offense and the "terminology" the same. All signs point to Scott. The question is, how will Z fit in? Will they make him Co-OC or will some lesser promotion pacify him for another year?

Based on those quotes I think they promote Scott and hire a QB coach.

I wouldn't be angry with this as long as we pluck a very solid QB coach. Reason for this being that he is only going to continue climbing up the coaching ranks. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a HC within 5ish years.

With that said, I would still be a bit dissapointed. I want UT to pick up the best available for every position. I think the fact that we don't have a strong AD in place right now is going to lead to our hires being not as grand as wished.

@jimmyhyams Raja Jubran, vice chair of UT Board of Trustees, said UT might not hire AD until April or May. Said chancellor Beverly Davenport needs input

UT is not the place to break in a position coach who has never been an OC before. I don't care if he sat next to Debord all last season. There are much better options out there relative to the historical stature and monetary resources of our program.

I'm an annoyingly glass half-full person by nature, but I think this talk of Scott is nuts. This screams, "We're not gonna cut you a blank check, Butch" statement from the higher ups, or arrogance on the part of Jones.
