Butch said a lot of same things like 'we are building something special here', 'our system works' etc .. etc .. However few things he said could point towards his direction for new OC.

He said he wants to enhance the system and not overhaul it and also said he wants people to know this is a destination job. Which all but points to the fact that names like Helfrich or any other big shot candidate are out the door.
Helfrich will bring his own (Kelly's) system which has worked well and he is not coming here for destination job. He is a clear 'journey man' who most likely be here for a year or two.
Butch did send a conflicting message to the previous one saying 'new OC must be great QB developer'. Neither of his internal candidates are even remotely QB guys. Both Azzanni and Scott have sucked at personnel development in their respective spots. So that sentence seemed like he was pointing towards Helfrich or similar name.

It is hard to get read on Butch as he is so scripted and never says things clearly.

Why is everyone obsessed with getting a QB coach/developer? Dobbs had one of the best years ever at UT and the #1 dual threat QB in last year's class sure didn't seem to mind that we didn't have one.

You seriously don't see the value in having a qb coach?

A great HC surrounds himself with great coaching minds. Dabo has gotten Clemson to an elite status by doing that. Butch is about to make the hire of his TN coaching life.

Personally think Dobbs could have improved his passing and been that much better with someone with experience working with him on fundamentals.

Butch is smart enough to know that he has to nail this hire. Sunseri was the final nail in Dooleys coffin the same way Clawson was Fulmers.

CBJ says alot of things that are obviously not true. The fact that you are just now figuring this out should concern you.

I'm gonna chalk this whole thing up as we don't know, until we have our AD any speculation is just that, we just gotta sit back and enjoy the ride until then.

We could hire literally anyone and everyone could be right or no one could... Similar to the Debord hire..

He wouldn't let DeBord go tho if he didn't have an idea of who or what was going on.

So we can speculate all we want. Let's just sit back and enjoy the ride. Mystery is part of the fun afterall.

Edit: Know what would be funny? The one time nobody was screaming Gruden... if it was him, lololol.

We need to figure out what route we are going to take with QB either pocket passer (Dormady) or dual threat (JG) and pick the right one to fit the offense we will be running!

Dobbs could've been even better as a QB with proper development from a coach. Look at the top programs right now, they all have good QB coaches to lead their programs. Kiffin, Harbaugh, Franklin, Chad Morris, Tom Herman has done great things with QBs. After offensive and defensive coordinator, a quality QB coach is the next best thing you can have. No top program right now doesn't have a good QB coach.

I think both QBs can play well in the offense with the right players surrounding them. That's probably true for most teams. A good QB coach will be very helpful for both next year.

If Dobbs could have been statistically better he would have had the greatest year of any QB in Vol history, including Peyton. Is that what you're getting at?

Probably because for every bit of how much Dobbs was tremendous, even this year, he had a tendency to make freshman mistakes... to throw INT at inopportune time (2 int vs SC and TaM) or over-shoot a wide open short range receiver.

Tennessee has the dumbest fan base in America.....

Or the dumbest coach in America, right? Butch didn't seem to think we needed a QB coach and Dobbs had a career year. Which is it Carl? All you Butch lovers calling me dumb/stupid have essentially just said the same about your beloved coach.

It's the what ifs method. What if we did have a QB coach that was working with JD on his accuracy? It showed up once or twice a game, maybe he would have been perfect.

I don't think what we ran was all that different than what Kelly/Helfrich ran at Oregon...not the same but it's not like they ran a wishbone and we're running an I...
