The last time he said the same thing, we ended up with an Olympic swim coordinator who had an office in a broom closet somewhere in Michigans upper peninsula

And all he did was come in and help our offense break a slew of offensive records. Come on Count, you and I both know our offense is not the problem. Our defense couldn't stop anybody and our coach couldn't seem to get our guys ready to play on game day for half the season.

The probability is high for us to lose to GT,FL,GA,AL,LSU but like I said I would eat my crow with a side of mashed potatoes if we beat even one of them

UGA reportedly plan on starting 3 true freshman on their OL. Gators lose 7 off their defense. It's not like GT dominated a UK team that looked hungover. You may need to place your order early cause there's gonna be a run on crow a couple of times IMO.

exactly.

he's going to find someone that has similar philosophy, and someone that can utilize the personnel we have in the manner needed to get the most out of them.

no way we're going to bring in a guy that is a pro style type.

Helfrich makes sense, in that they are similar fundamentally, but Helfrich probably could actually contribute and enhance what's already here, whereas Deboard, good as he was, was nothing more than a puppet for CBJ's offense.

stylistically there's more symmetry in what Helfrich brings to the table to go along with CBJ's philosophy.

that said, i can see us promoting Larry or Zack.
I can see M. Helfrich sitting in UT's skybox and calling our offensive plays. I can see him as QB COACH ALSO. Just do the salary negotiations and hit the field Jell the two playbooks and coaching philosophies and get this orange machine up and running ASAP. I'm not quite sure of the different schemes each coach prefers to run and how much "give and take" each of them will have to bend to get on the same page. Young recievers would be making most of the adjustments right off the bat.
All said and done,it doesn't have to be Helfrich coming in. There are more coaches out there. Some UT fans talking about Randy Sanders coming back....so us fans have to wait and see. It's the wait that hurts because these players don't have enough time to create the chemistry that's needed to get the team learning as a unit. Team 121 could be just as good as this years team if things go well.

We had an entire off season, and a 100% healthy roster, and struggled to beat App State, and let Ohio hang around the entire game.

The problem hasn't been talent or experience the last two seasons, it's been player development, team preparation, and game day coaching, all of which CBJ has been consistently mediocre to bad all four years.

Anyone who thought Butch was gonna change his offense was naive. He will hire a no name and give him the same 8 plays that Debord had.

I thought the game-plan was to run up the middle on the first 2 downs and then throw a flat pass on 3rd and long. Where are the other 6 plays for which you mention?

Swain is freaking killing my ears, trying to justify why promoting CZA or Scott is a good idea. Sounds like a dang paid infomercial.

But it could be his built in excuse, if nect year is bad, which most of feel its gonna be.. he can use as an excuse saying its the first year in a new system, and next year will be better..

Nailed it!

If BJ doesn't win the East (or at least improve in the W department) I don't think an excuse will matter.

Come on...You know there a huge faction of the fanbase that will believe anything Jones says.

By the way, where do you live in Clarksville? My entire family is from that are. Mom & Dad went to Montgomery Central.

See Philip Fulmer file sorted under the subject "Clawfence", "2008", and "fired"

This is the first thing I thought of when I saw people posting negative things about Butch bringing in someone to run an "enhanced" style of his offense. We got a first hand look at what happens when you bring in a totally different scheme and don't have the type of personnel to run it. You have 1.) A real sh*tty offense (look at our offensive output from 2008) 2.) You have an unemployed HC at the end of the year (Fulmer).

BTW I remember a lot of people being excited about the spread coming to Knoxville as well cause it was getting us out of "dark age" football with the pro-style we had been running.

Our scheme is fine it has produced the 2nd highest scoring offense in school history this year and 2nd highest rushing total in school history last year. It has the ability to be a ground n pound type offense while also being open to a spread style attack. With the right mind calling the shots and someone with enough attention to detail/player development + our current talent on the roster this offense has the potential to be flat out deadly.

Helfrich perfectly fits the criteria above.

Anyone think DeBord might have gotten a little miffed at being without a contract after this season and Helfrich getting invited to practice?

This is a crossroads hire for Butch. Either he decides to bring in a higher caliber coach and move the program forward or assumes the status quo is ok and promotes from within/hire a puppet.

I hope it's someone that on 3rd and short or goal line would run the ball north and south, not east and west.

Also, please replace Mahoney.

Butch will stay the course. He may bring in a name to keep many fans happy, but he will never turn complete control over to anyone to implement a new offensive scheme. That's what he has done in the past and he will continue to do in the future. He will stay the course.

Sounding more and more like UT may be looking for a head coach that is a better "fit"
