Clueless IMO. Great first year as HC. 2nd year in CFB playoff (won a playoff game btw), top 20 in 2015 - great offense, bad 2016 year again led by defensive lapses

Great years as OC

But he wants CZA

I mean for $/;-$ sake

I think if CZA is named OC, that will be the biggest indictment of Butch Jones in his tenure here.

I am not a football expert, but RB's have to make defenders miss. You aren't going to scheme a run where the RB doesn't have to make someone miss. That's why you recruit elite RB's.

You also get guys "in space" because they can make people miss. Debord actually had several pass plays the last two years that got Hurd and even Kamara open. The only issue I had was not using more of the middle of the field.

In the NFL that's typically correct. In college you will see RBs go several yards before contact commonly

Case and point everyone that played us

To hell with next year. We should all be flying or driving home from New Orleans today. That's exactly where we would have been if Jankek hadn't been fired.

Disagree with your fortune telling. Jancek can't coach an injured roster half as well as Shoop...so he'd be twice as bad. :) Never thought Jancek was horrible...plenty or others did. Shoop's better...just truth.

I think Kamara and Kelly were just fine in it. Hurd had a problem, but I don't think he was a good fit.

We will never know but we all know that this OC hire doesn't have one year to figure it out.

I have been over this. Pace, plays per second, Possessions per game, pts per play and more importantly schedule strength are the stats to look at.

I don't have to look at all of those stats to know that those things have declined since Kelly left.

Are you omniscient?

Lord help me, I'm about to agree with Bruin, slightly.

I think Kelly was the magic with the Duck offense, not Helfrich. Helfrich, to me, is the Romeo Crennell to Bill Belichick. Maybe he's good without the master, but he's no master.

That said, Azzani would be my least favorite hire. I'm not a huge fan of his, even though, for the first time during this coaching staff's tenure here, his group performed well this year.

It's too critical of a year for this staff, I want a proven commodity, not an experiment.

Helfrich is a much better hire than Azzani, imo.

"Butch just visited with the media and stressed the importance of fit in finding a new OC. Certainly, noted that new ideas are good and what he wants, but the core of the system is not going to change.

He also pointed out how pleased he was with the way the offense played the last month of the season (post South Carolina) and pointed out formation things, etc. We know that's something that Larry Scott had a big hand in being a part of.

Jones noted that he had no timetable on the hire and that he was talking to NFL guys as well as college guys.

He also made it clear how important it was to get a qb coach."

I still think it will be Helfrich. The offense he runs is so similar to Butch's which would fit with his comment of not changing the core of the offense.

If we go in-house Scott would be more choice. Just not sure how we would fit in a QB coach and make it work with staff numbers

Edit: I'm dumb never mind

Romeo Crennell had the #1 defense this year so I hope your analogy is correct.

Where is this narrative coming from that Jancek is a good defensive coordinator? He might be a fine defensive backs coach, but Taggart just kicked him to the curb, so then again, maybe not.
