@patrickbrownTFP: Worth noting: With Malone (and Barnett) turning pro, only five of the 18 four- or five-star recruits remain from the Vols' 2014 class.

Unfortunately, between attrition and recent recruiting, our overall talent level is declining.

The Mixon situation sets an extremely bad precedent. Basically says you slap me, I can strike you back with deadly force.

Just don't think the facts back this up. If we are giving credence to the injury justification, OL was hit hard, and was very effective once everyone was relatively healthy. Looking back to Hall and Jones last year, Jashon Robertson in 2014, and Richmond as this year progressed, the young guys seem to come in and do well. In light of the horrible shape the OL depth chart was in after Dooley, it's come a long way.

With respect to recruiting, we have signed several highly rated OL since he has been the coach, and the three stars seem to be hits for the most part. The success of OL recruiting and retention since Butch has been here may be the highest of any position group.

I think the "Mahoney is a crappy coach" thing is just a narrative that people don't really spend much effort really looking in to.

I'm open to arguments otherwise, but I haven't seen anything compelling to this point.

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised with a change, but last year's team had the second best rushing attack in school history. Even if you take out Dobbs' yards, I believe the RB's still had over 2200 yards rushing. Alabama said that we were the most physical team they played. The players love Mahoney.

Would you be ok if your daughter, albeit in the wrong, was struck so hard her face was broken and then the person who did that just got to continue on with life like nothing happened? He was never in danger and appeared to be in control of his faculties. She appeared intoxicated and off balance. He could have walked away. Instead he chose to respond and broke her face. It was like dropping a bunker buster on a lemonade stand. Police get scrutinized and often lose their jobs for using excessive force. They are run through the ringer every time they even draw their weapons. Soldiers can lose their jobs and go to jail for ignoring escalation of force protocols. Mixon went from zero to sixty and didn't even try to use words to stop the situation. Went straight to the big guns and you are praising him for it. You are by far the worst poster on this website and we got us some doosies.

No. That's my daughter so even in the wrong I'm gonna defend her. But then again if Mixon was my son and he was in the wrong I would defend him as well. Bringing up family relations doesn't tell us what is right or wrong. We are always gonna be biased toward our family.

In this situation as an objective party with no relation I can say both parties were in the wrong. The girl should not have struck Mixon. He should not have retailiated with excessive force.

My problem is with the fact everyone is giving the woman the pass and saying things like hitting a woman is never justified. No. Hitting another person without any physical provocation is never justified. The double standard regarding women getting a pass for hitting men with no physical provocation is what I have an issue with.

No it doesn't because nobody is saying what Mixon did was okay. He was in the wrong for using excessive force.

All we're saying is stop giving women a pass for PROVOKING men in situations like that.

Most men know not to strike a man who is twice their size. Its time women learn the same. You can't just go around swinging on people and expect them to not respond in kind.

In a 3 year time frame, is that a bad thing? With the number going pro...I'd say it's a testament to the talent if that class.

Thank God the transfer talk was just that talk. The kid is an NFL RB. He just needs to declare, kill the combine, and hope someone overlooks his character concerns.

I still believe that Jalen Hurd can be a pro-bowl RB in the NFL.

Yes he can if he stays healthy and motivated. I don't like him but he will be a good NFL player. The question will be when does he quit again. It will happen again too much of a trend

There were several different, non violent ways of handling that situation and he chose to knock her out.

He's a POS and comments like your's make you come off the same way.

He may quit the combine because the bench press started to get heavy.

He'll be a workout warrior. His 40, bench, and other measurables should be outstanding. The NFL likes that kind of stuff so I expect him to be drafted.

He's got a lot of questions to answer about leaving the program mid-season, though. The "intangibles" part of the interview process will be tough for him.

LSU #4 team in the SEC per the CFP rankings totally destroyed Louisville the #3 team in the ACC. Tennessee (8-4 in the SEC) easily beats Nebraska (9-3 in the Big 10). Florida (8-4 in the SEC) annihilated Iowa (8-4 in the Big 10).

There is a reason CFP ranked SEC teams went 4-1 during bowl season compared to 3-2 for the ACC and 1-3 for the Big 10.
None of those teams are destroying Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, or Wisconsin. Those records had as much to do with match ups and other situations as anything. Get real.

A MAN would walk away from that situation. A MAN would never hit a woman like that. A MAN would not defend a boy that broke a girl's face. Mixon has the body of a man but did not reflect the behavior of a man. He behaved like a child. I have said multiple times that the girl should have been punished as well. It is a virtual certainty that Mixon would not have struck her had she not started the physical altercation. However, you cannot compare what she did to him with what he did to her. Also, the punishments should be proportional as well.

Also, if my child screws up then they will accept the consequences. If they are in the wrong and break the law then I will love them but I will not condone their actions. I have made mistakes and suffered the consequences for them. Mixon was not punished. I don't know what happened legally to the girl but even if she wasn't charged with anything she still got her face broken. What happened to Mixon? A timeout and maybe a stern talking to?

This is completely misleading. There were 16 composite 4*s or higher in that class, 6 are still on the team, 2 are leaving early to go pro, 2 exhausted their eligibility and 6 left/quit football.
