Debord to Indiana as OC

Why would anyone think this will be a splash hire? The last OC left for a lateral at Indiana. Bottom line, our OC position is not a premium job a vertically mobile coach wants.

I bet Debord is headed to the pressbox at Indiana as we speak....prolly gonna check out the pools ph as well.

If Butch hires Mark Helfrich would he let him be "Mark Helfrich?" If not, why hire him?

Hope we hire Helfrich. But now what happens with the OL since a lot of the rumors had DeBord as Co-OC/OL Coach? Cause surely we don't keep Mahoney, right?

If Debord didn't take the OL role then everything points to Mahoney being safe

I'm hearing Helfrich, Kelly, Manning, and Tee Martin are all bitterly lobbying for the position. UT to hold a cage match tomorrow at Neyland winner take all! tifwiw

It would be akin to hiring a "HC in waiting." You think folks clamoring for the backup QB is bad when the starter is having a dismal performance? Wait for the catcalls in Neyland to happen if this hire occurs and Butch continues to falter.

I don't believe Helfrich is a Power 5 HC though. Some guys are just made to be OC, I don't think he'd get consideration at UT as HC even if Butch was let go. Could Helfrich leave for a smaller school ala Central Michigan, USF size (west coast probably), sure! But again, I believe based on track record, some guys are just better as Coordinators and CMH could easily fall in that category.

Not gonna lie I would have loved to see AK in a Helfrich ran offense. Dobbs for that matter too. He could have really improved Dobbs' passing game.
