How Soon and Who?

Oh really? Right now, for all intents and purposes, we don't have one, Einstein. Hart isn't making any major decisions he isn't going to be around to answer for. He is just minding the store. Next time you come up with a response, be aware of current events.

That's why I said after signing day, we should have a new AD in place in February. What is your problem

Butch needs to announce Helfrich the day after the NC to take momentum away from the winner. Then take him with you to recruit and flip players.

So Just how soon do we expect to start hearing some moves? Before the upcoming recruiting rounds or wait til AD in Feb?

Seems Consensus is -

DB Coach? Only name I've read has been Fair? Or Should Shoop get to pick?
Co-OC? Helfrich? DeBord O-Line?
Longshot D-Line? Hoke?

S&C Coach is a must, and now LA Coach seems to be "more affordably available".

S&C coach-- Rock Gullickson

Great idea. Let's do that, and trash the 11th ranked class.

I guess if you had influence at Green Bay, McCarthy would be looking for a job, and the Pack would be outta the playoffs.

Been suspecting it for awhile, but now I am certain....you ARE a moron.

Excellent post.

I keep seeing the word co offensive coordinator. Does that mean debored stays on? Wtf?!

Supposedly slides to O-Line and They keep title, or Helfrich just comes in as QB Coach but seems Helfrich would want to play call and Debord can strategize based on their strengths as mentioned in several articles and VN Posts.

I'd be more concerned about what happens after two years if this did happen..

Helfrich
Hoke
Scott
Butch

All can get a shot or another at a HC position. This would be disastrous for Tennessee
Disastrous? Really? If other programs are trying to hire your assistants as head coaches it means they've done their job well. How many of Saban's assistants have taken HC positions? It hasn't hurt them at all.

It all depends on things we don't know.
Considering that we have a new Chancellor coming in:

1) does CBJ have the authority to fire/hire? Can he fire/hire if he stays under the existing budget?

2) does the lame duck AD have the authority?

My opinion is that the Lady from Cincinnati has made it known that she wants to be very involved in hiring for the Athletic Department since that is where most sexual abuse problems arise and become very visible. And I am not talking about UT, but colleges in general.

Personally, I think Butch has done a very good job in the character department.
According to Doug Matthews, the boosters and President's office are lined up behind Blackburn and they are only waiting to let the new Chancellor make an announcement since the AD will be her subordinate (on paper). If it's not Blackburn, then I would take it as a sign that the new administration will be at war with the athletic department and the boosters.

Doug also stated that the new AD (Blackburn) will answer to higher authorities than the Chancellor, which I assume means that the President will somehow be reasserting some control over the UTKAD without actually removing the athletic department from the campus' organization tree.

Just because Davenport is still in Cincinnati does not mean they don't have her phone number. So,if she needs to be in the loop, that isn't an issue.

But just because the university is dragging out the hiring process is no reason for the current leadership to hold up making moves that are needed. As to the budget and even if we had a new AD in place, there would still probably have to get the OK from the board of regents.

The only thing not having the new AD in place might delay is replacing a HC. Otherwise, they can still take care of needs.

That also implies that the next two years would be very good ones for the Vols. I think you are more afraid that Coach Jones will succeed.

You make a lot of good points but they get minimized when all you do is insult people in a defensive manner.

Well, we can hold hands and sing kumbaya and we are the world when we don't get asinine responses.

But I appreciate your input.

When I said everyone answers to the HC, any halfwit knows I was referring to those on the coaching staff. Your response about the AD just seemed a little smart assed. Sorry for being insulting, but come on, man.

Sounding more and more like this could drag into next month before everything is completed

Losing coaches doesn't seem to hurt us. It's the replacements that the AD doesn't do so well on. JMHO

Certainly waiting until signing day, like they did when they hired debord a couple of years ago.

Different situation. They hired Debord because Bajakian had taken the Tampa Bay job. If we were making this move because the old coach took another job, you can't easily negative recruit that.

But since it is well known we are looking to make changes? You better believe other schools will use that against us.

You want to wait now? Not me.

I guess that watching what happened on the field and paying some attention to recruiting, I missed on the reason for the delay in hiring a new AD. If he cannot be replaced until a less convenient time, perhaps we could temporarily have co-ADs (wink, wink).

ADs do not hire assistant coaches, the head coach does.

And how well our ADs do on HC hires is a whole other discussion. And since we will have a new one soon? Let's let him make his own mistakes rather than crucify him for mistakes made by someone else.

Good point, bad timing.

It seems like most are in agreement that Shoop needs to stay, especially after seeing the defensive game plan come together against Nebraska.

One thing I noticed on defense is that DB dropped into zone coverage on several plays in that game. When he did, good things happened. How much of that is because of how freakish of an athlete DB is, or a sign of things to come?

I personally love when lineman drop into a zone coverage on passing plays. I think it confuses the crap out of most college qbs, results in turnovers, and can blow up screen plays before they are even started.

True, but I doubt HCs can promise the potential hire a salary without approval by the AD.

I would think Hart can sign off on salaries after he calls the board and gets approval. He isn't sitting in his office just to keep a seat warm.
