Dobbs in the NFL

Here is the question. Would you want Dobbs or somebody like Mark Sanchez as your back-up QB in the pros ? There are other so so back ups in the NFL. Why not somebody like Dobbs. Once he actually gets some real QB coaching he might progress to be a good QB. He has talent and physical ability.

His short accuracy was atrocious. You cant rely on your legs in the NFL. I love Dobbs and am thankful for him but thats the cold hard truth.

Russel Wilson, Fran Tarkenton, Randall Cunningham, Andrew Luck, and Cam Newton to name a few say "hi."

Literally none of these guys rely on their legs as much as Dobbs and can all make throws Dobbs cannot.

Literally every one of these guys has the career he has/had due to the fact defenses have to account for them running up field on any given pass play. This in turn opens up holes in zones especially not there for traditional non running drop back QBs which makes passing easier and not as necessarily accurate a requirement as well.

I think playing for Bruce Arians at Arizona would be an ideal fit. Arians is a great QBs coach. He molded Ben Roethlisburger and Andrew Luck. I like his aggressive nature when it comes to taking deep shots. And the Cardinals are a loaded teams that had a down year.

If Dobbs goes there he could be a starter year one like Dak and lead them to the playoffs.

Oh man, you are entertaining. I'll give you that, sir.

Cam and Wilson both have around 350 rush yards this season. Thats around 20 yards per game. You know what happened when Dobbs only rushed for 20 yards? We lost.

Dude, give it up, this is subjective, you're not going to see it my way and I for damn sure am not going to see it yours. Agree to disagree.

Everyone thinks he is the next Dak because he is a mobile QB from the SEC. People forget what Dak did while he was at MSU. I believe they achieved a number 1 ranking for the first time in school history. And as soon as he left they were garbage again. Dak was a lot better college QB than people gave him credit for at the time.

Dak was leading the Heisman race a lot of his junior year.

It's all about being on the right team/scheme. If Prescott was w/ the Browns, he wouldn't have had near the impact this year. Short range throws hopefully something pro's can coach him on...remember, he DIDN'T have a QB coach, which, totally separate topic, but think is very puzzling to have a TE coach where we throw to them once a game...but don't have a QB coach. I really hope he lands in the right environment. Such a wonderful example of student-athlete.

He certainly deserves a shot... if he makes it great, if not I am sure he will be great at wherever his career takes him. Thanks and good luck Joshua Dobbs!!

Go Vols !

I hope he designs builds airplanes, uses his smart brain for what he really loves to do..
He could be a great on in the NFL as well but QB's just don't run that much..

The hell you can't. It's the new trend.

No it's not. Running is still very much secondary to being accurate throwing the ball from the pocket. There are a small handful of qbs that will run it 3-4 times a game on designed runs (Wilson, Taylor, Mariota, Newton), but those runs are few and far between. If a qb is more of a running threat than passing threat in the NFL, he'll neither be a starter, nor will he last very long in the league. An NFL qb still has to be outstanding throwing the ball into tight windows to succeed....if he can't do that, he won't play, no matter how well he runs the ball.

Dobbs is different. He's got Russell Wilson like slipperiness to him. And with his size he's reminiscent of Randall Cunningham IMO.

Just think about this. Dobbs hasn't missed a snap in 4 years and he run the ball as much as our RBs most games. He has an uncanny ability to never take a big hit. He seems to have great instincts when it comes to avoiding shots. And he when he's tackled he falls easy thereby increasing his durability.

I think he has the ability and durability to be a true duel threat at the next level like Russell Wilson and a prime Randall Cunningham.

He won't be able to avoid shots in the NFL the way he has in college. Running has to be a secondary/tertiary option for NFL qbs ..... its 95% of the time solely out of necessity and needs to result in a slide to get down before a lb or safety gets a hand on you. It's still very much a league for pocket passers who are very accurate throwing into tight windows.

Dobbs durability at UT was indeed remarkable, but he can't test that in the NFL by making the mistake thinking he can just tuck it and run, other than when the protection breaks down and on a very few designed runs, should he find himself in a game. Besides, I'm certain any coach he may play for in the NFL will coach him to get down and live to play another day and coach the "running back" out of him.

I don't see him being drafted until real late if at all. Would make a great practice squad QB, which is 3rd string on teams that carry a 3rd QB on their roster. Belichek likes a QB with Dobb's traits. I do think the Pats or Bills would be his best fit.:twocents:
