Revisionist history. That was a team loaded with NBA talent that took a while to gel. When it did they put together one of the top 10 or so runs in basketball program history. The ridiculous elements of our fanbase didn't have the patience to see it through.

They hit the panic button after a slow start, raised the petition and then when the team took off, they were forced by their own stupidity to either pull against the team or (crazier yet) take full credit for the run (e.g., we lit a fire!).

Cuonzo was a solid coach and recruiter. I have no idea how he would have done long term but he deserved much better treatment then what he got. He had us in the NCAA hunt all three years - something we haven't done since.

This was also after Pearl where we hit number one(for like a week lol) He lost and still loses games he has no business losing. I didn't like Martin and prefer him to not be our coach. With that said, I never signed a worthless petition.

To be honest, the Cuonzo narrative is one I could see happening with Butch. The "Lyle" and "Champions of Life" posters on this board could spend all offseason telling us how miserable Butch is a coach, then be forced into retreat if we get healthy and catch fire next fall.

That's the narrative I'm pulling for. After all these years I would love to stick an 11-1 season into the faces of some of the miserable posters on this board.

Did Nick create a Nebraska game day thread? Can't find one and I feel it's time to start talking about the beat down we are about to put in another big 10 team.

That's why I think Blackburn is a must for AD. We don't need another ad that is more concerned with the bottom line. We don't need an AD that wants to put how financial improvements were done on his resume. We need someone with an emotional investment.

Now THAT is some revisionist history. The key pieces of that team had been together for a couple of years already. There was no such magical "gelling" with Cuonzo pulling the levers. That team was one loss away from not making the tournament, and had an extremely favorable schedule to make a run, and then a great draw in the NCAAT. Nothing wrong with that, you can only win the games in front of you. But it wasn't the culmination of great coaching by Martin. It was an underachieving team finally playing with some urgency with their backs against the wall.

And for the record, the petition was dumb and I would never think of signing that or any other online petition.

Just like it is with hoping the president is a great one even if you didn't vote for him, I hope your 11-1 prediction is right. My only agenda with respect to UT athletics is that I want to see them successful. Who leads us to wins is immaterial to me.

He didn't like it when I questioned him about the boycott quote, either.

I think Hoke is a better recruiter but probably not a better coach. I haven't been ecstatic since Hoke's name popped up. I don't think he's that great, and it's just another Butch coaching connection.

I've always heard that Hoke was a good position coach. What does him being a bad head coach have to do with coaching DL?

Either the administration is pro-sports, or pro-academics. Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Penn State, USC, FSU are some of the schools that are pro-sports. These schools will not lose on a regular basis. If you invest in sports, you invest in the school, imo. These schools will win at all costs, some more than others. Alabama and OSU refuse to have a sub par coaching staff. If you don't have that mentality, you are just an average school in regards to sports. We, UT, is just an average sports school. Sports doesn't really matter that much. If you can't handle that, you need to support one of the above schools.

He said something about the Tennessee Peyton Manning thing. So I kindly gave him a rebuttal

Ah. I actually tried to send the show an email about that as well. It was the morning that Jemille Hill was on and was spouting off and had no clue. I think it was an old site for the email, but of course, I never got a response.

Schools can be both pro sports and pro academics. In fact some you named there are.

They only give that appearance. It's how much they spend on their coaching staffs, especially football. Tennessee would never spend that kind of money that say a Texas or Alabama would.

Does VQ still believe Blackburn is the favorite or do they agree with Basilio that admin is just looking for a reason to not hire him? Good grief does DiPetrio have no say in this or is Davenport the main decision maker? UT doesn't care about sports anymore be it shows. At least the liberal elites could see that football brings in revenue for academics to flourish!
