Don't we judge each coach by the overall results of their position group? He's never really had a full cupboard at DT, but the DL since he's been here has been pretty good. I see what you're saying, but given the weaknesses of this team, it is interesting to see Stripling as a possible coaching change. Obviously, there are other factors in this move than just results.

Sure. But, do you think Debord is a better coach than Shoop? What does Debord look like if Dobbs and Kamara get hurt? Shoop coached without a lot of talent this year and back-ups at DT.

The point was that its unfair to knock Hoke for being a "Butch connection" when Debord has performed just fine under the same label.

I think Strip has done a good job but may be getting burned out. I'm also in favor of Shoop bringing in HIS guys, not Butch's guy or former UT players just to make the fans happy.

Interesting. Brice has never been my cup of tea.

Never really disliked him but just never thought he was as informed as he should be and seemed to be less reliable than his coworkers at VQ.

Another thing I've always felt is that CBJ, being a former OC, has always taken the guy that could play either side of the ball and pulled him to offense. JJ and Byrd are the last to come to mind. It may account for the lack of depth on D.

That still does not mean it will work for all of his coaching connections. It was JMO. I'm not an expert on Hoke. Could we do worse? Absolutely. I'm just not that ecstatic about him based on what I do know.

He's been all right since he joined 247. His coverage of the football program, administration, etc. has been fine. It's absolutely an upgrade from Rucker, but that isn't saying much unfortunately. I think he should stay out of recruiting notes unless he is referencing information from Callahan. I never saw 247 state UT was a leader for Akers until Brice's quote this morning about him and Corker.

If Hoke is at least as good as our current coach and is able to maybe use his name/resume to pull some top tier recruits, then it may not be so bad.

If Strip takes a step back but is still around and we add Hoke that's quite the upgrade, IMO. We get to keep Strip AND add Hoke. Those two combined should be able to get our DL playing better and Hoke is a definite upgrade in recruiting.

Fair to replace Willie, add Helfrich as co-oc/qb coach, new OL coach and the Rams S&C coach...2017 staff > 2016 staff. Hopefully it shows in the win column. Win the East or bust in '17.

I'm not pointing out anything new here, but VQ mostly puts out info that is handed to them. And they are spoonfed some juicy information, because it seems that they have agreed to not report on some of the bad stuff in return. They don't have to do much digging. I think Brice was the only one who really tried to do some investigative journalism and he went out on a limb sometimes. You're going to be less reliable when you do that, but I wish more media in this town would follow suit.
