Not to disagree just for the sake of it but saying DH is a failed AD is not held by everyone....Argue, scream, explain, pontificate, etc. but he's just not considered that by a lot of people...of course he's an easy target and I get that. But I dare say most, maybe not you, but most here have NO CLUE what an AD does on a daily basis...no idea what his morning to night schedule looks like or what decisions he actually makes....Anyways...AD's are usually overrated as to their effecting a program anywhoo...USUALLY!!!
But we could have done better than Donnie Tyndall if they had done more than a 3 hour interview and instant hire without vetting him!Hart had a task. Hart completed that task.
His hires have been underwhelming, but there is still time for Butch to pull out of this nosedive and I'm not sure we could have done better than Barnes at the time.
Dave Hart was brought in to manage the merger of athletic departments. That's over, so from that point of view, he's not necessarily a failure. From a perspective of hiring coaches, he's unquestionably a failure. Let's not pretend this is actually a retirement, either. It makes no sense to remove him to promote his assistant.
LWS do you know what the delay is for? It would seem that Butch needs guidance from the incoming AD right now. Basilio and Vol Colonel are still saying people want Gilbert and the longer this goes on, the less likely Blackburn is hired. Are they just way off base with that? Sorry, but many of us are very concerned given Tennessee's history with important hires. We are almost waiting for them to screw this up. Thanks for your insight!
Go to class a little in between football games is more accurate! It's honestly no suprise Tennessee is where it's at with this administration. I understand conducting a thorough search, even though Blackburn seems like the easy, logical choice. But delaying it until February is a joke. I hope he is wrong. He's been wrong many times before.
This administration is trying to run Tennessee like an Ivy League school, and that's not what we are. We're a great southern, public University in the SEC who plays a little football in between classes. Our Vols are our life. Make Tennessee Great Again!
Sometimes I miss the blissfully unaware, pre-internet days when we had no freaking clue about who our position coaches were, let alone our Chancellor or who they might hire as AD. I also miss the days when we first learned the names of our incoming freshmen class when we bought our first game program of the season.

Larry, does waiting until January to make changes suggest that Helfrich to UT is unlikely considering that he has several suitors pursuing him right now? Obviously, I'm connecting a lot of dots there. Just curious.
That is certainly possible. who is pursuing him? Saw his name attached to LSU but outside that one not sure I've seen anything else linking him to someone. LSU filled their spot
I'd get up early to go buy the USA Today to see which big time recruits we nabbed. There was the huge excitement of the unknown. The KNS and (ughh) the Tennesseean had nice little tidbits on other recruits we brought in. When Johnny went heavy on the OL recruiting in 87 (resulting in our best era IMO), I remember the rumblings of "where are our QBs and WRs?" (caveman Negavols). You really didn't have a complete idea of your recruiting class until the preseason magazines got into the new stands.
Would seem to me that another major program would have to make a coordinator change (TN included) for him to have a landing spot. Not any major programs left with an OC opening at the moment that I know of. Not sure who Pitt replaced Canada with or if they even have.
