The Problem of Whiteness

D4H swoops in with the crazy and doesn't disappoint!

-edit-

lack of understanding of human biology is profound..

First of all I understand biology but that is irrelevant when discussing race.

Race is about PHENOTYPE not GENOTYPE (no matter how hard white supremacists try to conflate the two).

When black people were designated black, no one had a DNA test taken. It was based on how we looked. It was based on having dark skin and kinky hair. And as Europeans went around the globe they termed other people with black skin and kinky hair as "black" like the people of Papau New Guinea.

Now genetics have proven these old notions of race false. People with similar phenotypes like Africans and Melanisians we now know have very different genes. Hell we've discovered that there is more genetic diversity among "blacks" in Africa than anywhere else on earth.

So race in a genetic/scientific sense does not exist. Only race is a social/cultural sense exists. And in terms of society and culture, race is based on phenotype and people with what are traditionally considered black features (dark skin and kinky/curly hair) are considered black.

Odd. He believes white supremacists control the world, yet scientist do not believe in race. They consider it to be man made and not biological in any way.

So if theres a major scientific cover up to support white supremacy, why would they proclaim that race doesn't exist?

Never seen a beautiful San girl before?

That is the beauty of Africa. Everyone comes from Africa which is why native born Africans have all the features of humanity within them.

You sound a lot like an Austrian corporal. Just a little different subject matter though.

When you realize the democrats are the real white supremacists

Again, you have zero idea about biology.

Ever wonder how scientists can tell race from looking at bones without taking a DNA sample?

Humans adapted to their environments as they moved out from Africa and over thousands of years evolved. Evolution.

Race as a social construct exists.

Race as scientific or biological reality doesn't.

White supremacy is a societal belief that people who are deemed white are superior to everyone else.

Odd. You were just telling me it was based on scientific/biological traits (phenotypes).

No. They can tell what part of the world your are from. But DNA haplogroups don't tell you the race of the person as we traditionally think of the concept of "race". As you astutely pointed out earlier when we were discussing the Olmecs, people with different genes can look the same. And that is what race was traditionally about. Race was about PHENOTYPE. How a person looks. Black people didn't get categorized as black based on a DNA test. We were categorized as black because we had similar physical features. We had similar "phenotypes". We had dark skin and kinky hair. That is what defined being "black".

You are right that what science has now taught us that people who look the same physically like many Africans aren't neccesarily the most closely related in terms of genetics. We have learned that PHENOTYPE and GENOTYPE aren't always linked as most people in the past wrongly assumed. You can look like someone and not necessarily have the same genes and you can look very different from another but be more closely related genetically.

If you want to call DNA haplogroups a new term like "biological race" then I have no issue. But DNA groups are not race in a traditional sense. They are something else. They are more tied to geographic location than phenotype which tradition notions of race originate from.

Odd. You were just telling me it was based on scientific/biological traits (phenotypes).

Race as traditionally thought of wrongly assumed that people who look similar must be more closely related genetically (i.e. calling Pacific Islanders "negritos" aka little negroes because Europeans assumed they were related to Africans).

We now know that just because one group look like another doesn't necessarily mean they are genetically related.

Thus race (as thought of traditionally) doesn't scientifically exist. You can call these new genetic relationships whatever you want. Just don't call it race cause its nothing like what the word was intentionally intended for. The original use of the word race was to describe similarity in phenotype aka how people looked.

The more capitalist we become, the more libertarian we become.

And if you want a good depiction of what libertarianism in its rawest form looks like, then look at Syria. Basically, free for all anarchy.

Wow. Wrong on so many levels that it's impressive.

You willingly make the choice to take from me to give to others. How charitable of you.

That's what civilizations have done throughout history.

Roads, police, firemen, defense, schools, hospitals, prisons, courts, food inspectors, parks, space exploration, research, disaster relief,

We have no choice in the amount we give or where it goes. Capitalism does not give people complete freedom of choice, that would be a catastrophe. The debate has never been about freedom of choice or not. Rather how much freedom of choice and at what cost.
We will never have pure communism or capitalism, every society will have some degree of socialism.

You keep hoping from phenotype to genotype and back whenever it suits your agenda. Phenotypes are rooted in genotypes and can be defined by genetics.

What's good for goose is good for the gander.
