What I said is true. Stamping your little feet, and pitching a hissy fit, firing coaches every three-four years that do not meet our stupid standards, is going to bring success. The goal should be to put good solid teams that compete every week, and win all the games they are supposed to, and some they are not, and compete for championships. Butch failed this year. He did not last year. We will find out what he is really made of this coming year. We will not win the East next year probably, but if Butch can get the team back to playing sound fundamental football, we will be in every game. If not we will slide back into the basement.

So Oklahoma and Florida last year weren't fails on the field? Because we kinda looked like the better team on the field.

Yep. Dude is incredible around the corner and never, ever stops.

But have to be able to win inside consistently in the NFL for the edge rush to have maximum effectiveness

He bull rushed his entire freshman year. Don't know what you all see but he's ready right now. Remember he was doing it so much he tried to add a spin move to the mix early last year.

Not complete failure. Complete failure is not even being competitive and you freaking know that. How many games have you lost? Are you a failure? Why is no credit given for that team being ahead of schedule, and playing good competitive ball? The coaches get their share of hate from you when they screw up, but no recognition for when they do a good job. I'm sick of losing games 59-17.

Tennessee Bowl Practice Notes: 12-16-16 | Rocky Top Insider

Injury notes: Running back Alvin Kamara, defensive back Rashaan Gaulden and safety Todd Kelly Jr. remained in green, non-contact uniforms. Evan Berry, Kahlil McKenzie, Shy Tuttle and Chance Hall are the players who have been ruled out for the Dec. 30th matchup against the Cornhuskers.

Pass-rush drills: One-on-one pass-rush situations were the focal point early in practice with Tennessee’s defensive linemen getting a chance to go head-to-head with their counterparts on the O-line.

Here are a few reps that stood out:
- Coleman Thomas had probably the best rep for the offense. He completely stuffed Charles Mosley from getting any kind of drive into the backfield and easily won the rep.

- Marcus Tatum looked like a freshman on a couple occasions. Senior LaTroy Lewis blew by him on one of the opening reps, again showing that Tatum has plenty work to do this offseason following a season that he was forced into action after a redshirt was planned for him.

- Jonathan Kongbo had a nice speed move to get around Nathan Niehaus
Quay Picou had some nice foot work on an interior pass rush against Austin Sanders. He juked him out and easily got into the backfield.

- Alexis Johnson appeared to be moving well in several drills, and certainly held his own in this pass-rush one

- Drew Richmond got one of the toughest matchups: Derek Barnett. Barnett got around him, but Richmond was able to guide him out wide enough that it probably would’ve prevented a sack in a true game situation. It was a pretty good overall rep for the redshirt freshman offensive tackle.

Quarterback battle: Yes, Joshua Dobbs has another game, but it’s been entertaining to see the competition for the 2017 quarterback battle get underway in the past few weeks. It’s going to be a good one. There’s plenty of justifiable buzz about Jarrett Guarantano, who looks more and more comfortable making all the throws and regularly shows off his impressive zip on the ball.

But don’t sleep on Quinten Dormady. He was very accurate in the limited drills we saw on Friday, and he has a great understanding of routes and ball placement as well. Those two continue to stand out as the top candidates with Sheriron Jones and commitment Will McBride hoping to make a push in the spring.

Upcoming schedule: Friday was Tennessee’s final open practice in Knoxville. The Vols will have a few more closed sessions before departing for Nashville on Dec. 26, where they will have a few more sessions in the Music City before the Dec. 30th matchup.

So this says Davenport was approved but won't officially start until February 15. Surely that won't preclude UT from hiring DB to get started with the football coaching changes that we all hope are coming right?

Beverly Davenport named University of Tennessee chancellor

EDIT:

New Chancellor = Beverly Davenport = BD
New AD (Hopefully) = Dave Blackburn = DB

Minnesota football players boycott activities over suspension of 10 teammates | Fox News

I know this was discussed a little but man what a mess. Ten players suspended. The girl said sexual contact with two of the players may have been consensual but not the others. Now the players won't play because their teammates screwed up at a party and had sex with a girl that was willing to have sex with two guys but not four. I'm sorry but what is wrong with kids these days. If your teammates screwed up then they need to be held accountable. If they didn't and are cleared then they can come back to the team. In the mean time, you have obligations. You are receiving a free education to play football at the University of Minnesota. If your not gonna play then whip out your checkbook and write a nice fat tuition check. Then you can be a walk-on and choose to play or not.

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe the contention is that they were legally cleared, but still suspended. IF this is the case, the suspension does seem unjust.

I admit I'm not up to speed on this but is there any reason to believe the girl was wanting to have sex with 2 and not 4? Kinda hard to believe that.

I think the article implied that further investigation has been done and that internal investigation is what prompted the suspensions. If you violate university standards of conduct and ethics they can suspend you. Doesn't require legal action if I understand it correctly. What was the RB here that was accused and then cleared of hitting a girl but was released from the University because of it?

Hey I don't condone that behavior nor do I think it is wise to engage in it. However, if she says, "Okay. You two I will **** but not your friends." Then that is her prerogative. It is similar to the AJ case. There were texts clearly showing that the girl was willing to have sex with AJ but not the other dude. I think that is where AJ got hung up. Shoot. He still doesn't have resolution on that mess.

Kid two years ahead of me in school - dad's name was Richard Head. Never understood how parents could do that. Guess it's the Catch 22 Major Major Major Major mentality - just have to have it in for your kid from day one.

So either you are from Memphis or there are more Richard Heads out there than I suspected...

:)

Not fully up to speed here either, but an article I read indicated the guys were cleared under multiple investigations. Then one guy comes in and does a blanket suspension, suspending not only guys involved in alleged incident but also guys that happened to be there the night in question.

A team is a family. Not saying any side is right, but I can at least understand where the teammates are coming from, when guys not involved are punished as well as guys previously cleared.
