'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

9-3 and 8-4 is about as closed of a gap as you can have. Saying we didn't is not an accurate take. And I'm not suggesting it is anything we have done as much as FSU has some holes that need to be plugged.

The reality of the two "teams" on 12/15/16 the gap is there but it isn't massive. Without the injuries the gap is likely gone.

The reality of the two "programs" on 12/15/16 the gap is massive. The numbers are very damning for the Vols in this comparison.

Maybe this is all getting lost in the difference between discussing a team and a program. When I used the word "brand" I was speaking to the Programs as a whole.

Florida has beaten FSU ONCE this decade.

Tennessee has beaten Florida ONCE this decade.

Let that sink in for those of you with your heads buried in the sand saying thei program isn't WAY ahead of ours.

You gotta think about the time of year those games are always played too, Bruin. Tennessee and Florida kick off the SEC year; and for the vast majority of the time Florida held a huge talent and coaching edge. Whereas Florida and FSU close the season, after Florida went through a much tougher league schedule (injuries, fatigue, and in general less to play for).

The scheduling doesn't help I agree.

So what metrics are you using to determine this? Past records compiled by players no longer with the respective programs? You mentioned the word 'brand', so merchandise sales or revenue being brought in by the schools? (Tennessee was 3rd in total revenue 2015, FSU not in the top 10)
Forbes Welcome

Recruiting rankings?

2014 FSU 4th Tenn 5th
2015 FSU 3rd Tenn 5th
2016 FSU 2nd Tenn 15th
2017 FSU 20th Tenn 9th
Average FSU 7.25 ranking TN 8.5

Nothing is telling me that FSU is 'light years' ahead of Tennessee from a program or a team standpoint. Feel free to set me straight.

Already been mentioned. Records, NFL drafts, bowls, championships, National titles.

That's where you see the massive difference

What accomplishments of note does UT have that compares to FSU over the last 5 years? FSU: 1 national championship, 1 CFP birth, 3 conference championships, 1 Heisman trophy winner, 4 10+ win seasons with a chance at a fifth. UT: Taxslayer Bowl champs, Outback Bowl champs, Champions of Life.

FSU has a decent program, but I don't come in here to talk up other programs. I'm a Tennessee fan. So basically, no hard feelings, but EFF FLORIDA STATE. Going to Florida State as a running back is not better than going to Tennessee. Not now and not ever.

You can pick any criteria you would like and FSU outperforms UT. Outcome remains the same.

I believe the debate is whether they are "light years" ahead.

To me, that means that there is absolutely nothing we can do to catch a program that is "light years" ahead of us within the next 10 years.

I don't see any program in America like that, including Bama.

So you're saying that you believe Tennessee should be considered at the same level, as a program, to FSU for the entirety of the past 5 years? You believe that, when Butch took over 4 years ago, he was on absolutely equal footing as Jimbo Fisher's FSU teams from the same time period?

Did you go into a coma circa 2001 and just wake up from it last fall?

Completely ignoring the status of each respective program during the specific time period might make you look a little bit like a troll.

We definitely agree there. That's because you're talking future tense, whereas I'm talking recent past. FSU's body of work since Obama's second term started is definitely light years ahead of ours. But that can change, of course, and I really hope it does.

I didn't overcook anything unless you think 77-17 and 44-42 are programs that are close together. The gap between the two program's brand is massive. That's just the records for the two programs since 2010 and doesn't mention NFL drafts, bowl games, recruiting rankings, National titles......etc. Cam Akers knows of no such Tennessee team that was as good as the FSU team this year which was one of their worst. The gap is huge. Same can be said about the 2000s and the 90s as well. They only lost 13 games for an entire decade of the 90s. That's crazy to think of.

Lol. I don't think you know what brand means. you'll get torched on this one guy

Nope. It is just a matter of looking at his "whole body of work".

We were told in year one that it was OK that the team played poorly, got blown out, and lost to a Vandy team with a bowl on the line because it was his first year and not his players.

In year two, the excuses were youth and depth with everyone pointing to years 3 and 4. UT lost at least one winnable game against a flat out horrible UF team.

Year 3, the meltdown losses primarily due to in game strategy have been well discussed. In a season where the Vols were probably a good gameday HC away from playing in the SEC CG.... they settled for 8-4. ALL Jones supporters pointed to year 4 as the break out year.

Year 4 was actually a worse performance than year 3. Yes there were wins over UF and UGA but the team didn't really play to potential at any point during the year. The USCe and Vandy losses are probably the two worst... and most meaningful of Jones' tenure.

Excuses? Plenty.

Injuries was a big excuse. But this isn't the first year that UT has had high injuries under Jones and he did NOTHING to change things in S&C. There was internal turmoil within a team that pretty obviously had an entitled view.

Jones has underperformed the talent on UT's roster in each of his 4 years. Year 4 was the WORST of all.

No realistic person denies he's done some good things or even thinks UT will fire him this year. But his job ultimately is to do all of those good things AND coach at a championship level. He hasn't. UT won't fire him. They probably wouldn't have even if Hart weren't leaving. But he's probably operating on borrowed time now.

So you lower the bar for Jones because UT has been bad? Jones' job isn't to be better than Dooley. His job is to win championships.

If Jones wins anything less than 9 next year then there should be a change.... 8 without a doubt. Why? Because Jones has proven that he cannot beat teams with a little more talent on any sort of regular basis but HAS proven that he'll lose at least one game each year that he shouldn't lose. It is time for HIM to turn that around and beat a couple of teams he shouldn't WITHOUT losing to ones he should beat.

If he doesn't, his "body of work" will be more than sufficient to prove he is NOT a championship caliber coach.

UT has averaged 8-9 wins a season over the entirety of its program with a SECCG appearance level team about every 3 years. If you expect Butch to do more than that yearly, you are expecting him to have this team at a higher level than is historically accurate.

I think last year's team was the first that could be considered for this cycle. If Butch is on track he will make it to the SECCG either this following year or the next while having a minimum of 8 wins a year.

This discussion belongs in a thread in the football forum, y'all are ruining this place with all of these unrelevant conversations in player specific threads.

This thread is for Cam Akers. If your conversation is about ANYTHING other than Akers this is not the place for it, or comparing Dooley to Butch.

Make VolNation great again. Stop with all the nonsense.

Wait.

Cam Akers is thought to be choosing between UT and FSU, yet discussion about these 2 programs is out of bounds? Got it.

He's bating you (and everybody). I honestly think he's a troll planted here to stir up traffic. He has admitted to purposely trolling people in the past.

The only reason I see his posts are when other people argue with him. Ignore him and your life will be less stressful.

I'm stupid..I have had that butthole on ignore for awhile, but I saw his stupid post about FSU being light years ahead of us because somebody quoted him...and took the bait.

Can we do Christmas Vacation quotes again? That was fun.
