'17 TN OL/DT Trey Smith (UT commit 12/6/2016)

Butch doesn't get paid $4 million a year to produce life championships. ESPN and CBS do not televise kids winning life championships. I think it's great and desirable to have good kids on the team but the coaching staff is paid well to produce wins.

Would you rather he produce wins by having an Aaron Hernandez on the roster? Great talent, that one.

Yea, I heard a guy on the radio the other day, a national guy and can't recall who, but he said when a coach gets a high profile job he's got to decide right away whether he's going to win or do it the right way. This was in regards to skirting the rules. It's very hard to win at a high level today without crossing a line. It's very corrupt and some programs are under more scrutiny than others thus the risk is higher when you do venture across that line.

It was Terry Bowden i read the article, he still has the ledger book that tracked payments to players.

If the gripe is how much he is paid and what he is paid to produce based on that salary, then:

Butch's 2016 salary is $4,000,000.
Butch's team won 8 games
Butch got paid $516,250 per win

How much did other SEC teams pay their coaches per win?

But soundbites without context, or depth, are much easier for simple people to understand. They don't want truth because it's complex and often boring. Soundbites and contrived dramatic reality TV is much more exciting. Especially if it furthers the agenda of getting the boring cliche-coach sent packing. Entertain me, damnit, that's what I came for!

The same shallow stupid people that are addicted to chaos. I personally think Butch is on the downhill run now, it is inevitable, and nothing short of a near miracle season next year will save his regime now....BUT...I hope that miracle happens and Butch actually grows from this disaster. As I said a couple of days ago however, the FACT that he was/is snooping around for a way out, shows me where his head is..firmly up his own a**. That was discouraging to me.

And yes Bruin..I said FACT.

You really believe that?..Really? I always took you for a smart guy.

There's was talk several years ago about Saban going to Texas. You don't think his agent was doing due diligence for Nicky every year to get him the best deal he could find? Agents make money based on their client's salaries. You better believe they are always looking in case their client wants to make a move.

Oh come on Glicht..The fraud is/was looking for a way out so he doesn't have to work hard, and fix the mess he made out of this disaster of a season.

I think it's pretty disingenuous to suggest that Butch doesn't work hard. And while it clearly didn't meet your expectations, I would hardly call this season a disaster.

You miss the point. These guys are paid millions to produce wins, not be Boy Scout leaders. If wins weren't the objective, these guys wouldn't be making millions.

I strongly defended him till he lost to Vandy. I am not being disingenuous. That loss turned the season into a disaster in my opinion. Butches actions since have only further eroded my confidence in his ability and commitment to the Volunteers.

If wins are the only objective, then you don't have much to gripe about with Butch, per his salary. His salary is middle of the pack in the SEC and, guess what, so are his wins.

If you were paid below average by your employer, would you be expected to produce at a very high level? Butch is paid slightly below average for SEC coaches and produced slightly higher than average wins this year. We got a bargain!

Wasn't he on the road the day after losing to Vandy? That doesn't sound like someone mailing it in.

I'm not defending or excusing his performance, but the drama has gotten to stupid levels. You wanna see a disaster? UF and AU have had them. Ours wasn't close.

Dooley didn't work hard. You cannot say Butch doesn't work hard. We may not like the results and we may question his decisions but I never doubt that he wants to win and works tirelessly toward that goal. He might not win here but he has certainly worked hard.

I wish I still felt like you do. I think that next season could approach AUs 3-9 and UFs 4-8 disaster. IF the team thinks Butch has checked out, they will too. IF that happens next year will be REALLY bad. I hope not. I hope Butch proves me wrong.

I cannot say Butch HASN'T worked hard. But will he work hard on himself? Will he continue to work as hard to rebuild the UT program...or will he check out? I don't think he will improve his flaws at all. He is arrogant and stubborn.

First, nobody outside of his family and agent knows how bad he actually wants out. Second, as many people around here who want him gone, what do you expect him to do?

So apparently he looked, and nobody wanted him badly enough to pay the required amount. Not surprising since a big chunk of his current fan base don't want him.

Here's where I differ. He will coach next year like his career depends on it, because it does.

You guys act like we went 2-10 this season. Just FYI Ole Miss was looking great until this season. Now they are 71st in recruiting rankings had a 5-7 season, and on top of all that are about to get hit with NCAA sanctions more than likely. Look around the SEC right now and you tell me other than Alabama what other programs are in as good of shape as us? New coaches and recruiting violations are happening in the conference, and yes we had a disappointing season but it can be much worse than it is at this moment in time.
