I'm not Cuban, and do not pretend to know exactly how any of them feel about this. What I can say, having grown up in South Florida and seen the issue of US relations with Cuba debated countless times by Cuban immigrants is that it's extremely complicated.

Your desire to capture it as simply, you either embrace his death or defend him, is severely misplaced and COMPLETELY screws up the bigger question of how the US changes its status with Cuba so as promote our ideals.

Really, the piecemeal approaches, the simple little aphorisms, the two sentence cartoons, do not begin to reflect just how many layers there are to all of it.

You right wing yahoo's that do not comprehend that's it's just not that simple are embarrassing yourselves more than usual today.

I feel sorry for the hundreds of yahoo's standing in long lines to look at that piece of garbage laying stiff as a board looking up but should be looking down to where his new home is forever. I hear it's mandatory to visit where he lays....so there's no dancing in the streets for celebrating the death of a tyrant and a murderer of thousands.

Things are rarely simple in this world, U.S. - Cuba relations included.

But one can't talk out of one side of their mouth embracing human rights, fair elections, free speech, etc. while out of the other praising a tyrant who confiscated property, jailed, and killed the citizenry of Cuba to protect his dictatorship.

That is really simple. it's not hard to understand for the average person who hasn't been fed the socialist hero depiction of Castro. There is nothing praiseworthy about Fidel. He's evil.

My uncle is Cuban. Lives in Miami. He's glad the bastard is dead.

It's a beautiful place if it hadn't been run down by Castro for the past 60 years. The time I spent in Git Mo on deployment I was impressed.

And the refugee women coming in? I would have sponsored my own harem if I could have.

As many as 70 Americans are currently FUGITIVES in Cuba, part of a tradition that dates back decades. Among them are some of the most-wanted Americans ever, including suspects in the DEATHS of law enforcement agents. They have been able to live in relative quiet and comfort thanks to the distrust between the U.S. and their chosen home. (Indeed, NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden was rumored to be considering Cuba as a permanent home as well — one certainly much warmer than the Russian capital.)

The layers are simple. He stole his people's land. Imoprisoned those who opposed him. Murdered people to stay in power. Drove his own people to risk death to get to freedomn in the most dangerous ways possible. Stole hundreds of millions of dollars to enrich himself. He is a human pos. Glad he's dead.

Normalizing our relationship with that country is complicated. His death is not.

'In 1961, [America] invaded Cuba, and everybody was totally convinced that Castro was the worst guy in the world,' he said.

'All the Cuban people were going to rise up in rebellion against Fidel Castro. They forgot that he educated their kids, gave their kids health care, totally transformed society.

'You know, not to say Fidel Castro and Cuba are perfect - they are certainly not - but just because Ronald Reagan dislikes these people does not mean to say the people in these nations feel the same.'

That's simply your opinion as a non-black person. As a black person, I can find alot that was praiseworthy about Fidel Castro. The most significant being his support for anti-colonial movements in Africa.

While our government in the United States was supporting the RACIST APARTHEID government of South Africa, Fidel was supporting the African National Congress and Nelson Mandela. While our government was the supporting the European Colonialists of Africa, Fidel Castro and Che Guevara were sending Cuban troops to Angola to fight alongside black Africans against their white oppressors.

You can read about Fidel Castro's significance to the fight for freedom of black people in Africa here: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/nov/30/africa-fidel-castro-nelson-mandela-cuba

You may not find something praiseworthy about Fidel. But don't act like your opinion is somehow the absolute truth. There are many reasons for people other than you to praise and love Fidel Castro. The most significant being black people in Africa.

Hero? You're going to have to explain this one.

While the United States government was supporting RACIST WHITE colonialist regimes in Africa, Fidel Castro and Cuba were supporting the black freedom movements in those countries. There is a reason Cuba was the first country Nelson Mandela visited after he became President of South Africa. There is a reason he called Fidel Castro his brother.

Fidel and Cuba are loved all around Africa for their support of Africans during the struggles against WHITE COLONIALISM. White people in the West have tried to hide this part of history because they were on the wrong side of history and Fidel was on the right side.

Fidel Castro sent Cuban troops to Angola to fight alongside black Africans against white colonial Europeans. Just think about that? Fidel and Cuba were willing to sacrifice their own peoples lives to help free another across the globe.

That is why black people around the world ADORE Fidel Castro.

He is the embodiment of a HERO.

Racist black people adore him, intelligent black people don't. Intelligent black people also know who he is, along with people of Cuba. I suggest you head down to Miami and see what Cubans think of ole Castro.

I asked, you answered so I thank you.

Do you think he is a hero to most black Cubans?

Fixed that for you. BTW do you know that 36% of Cuba's population is BLACK and MULATTO?

Yet when I look at the Cubans in Miami always protesting Castro, they are almost entirely white. I never see a black Cuban up in there protesting with them.

Why do you think that is?

Maybe its because the WHITE Cubans that hate Fidel Castro were part of the ruling class of Cuba before Castro. The ruling class that owned all the private property in Cuba. Property that Castro nationalized and then divided equally among all the citizens of Cuba. Its funny how Americans who hate on Castro have almost no knowledge of the history or background of Cuba. Do you know that the previous leader of Cuba before Castro was also a dictator? Fulgencio Batista was a brutal dictator that was the driving force of the Cuban revolution. He allowed the mafia to have free reign in Cuba. Remember this was detailed in Godfather 2. Batista was also a staunch racist. Black and Brown Cubans had almost no property, money, or power during his reign. They were oppressed. Much like black people in America during that same time period.

Isn't it interesting that we always hear about how Castro is a dictator and the Cuban people are being oppressed. Yet nobody mentions Cuba's previous leader was also a dictator. And nobody mentions that the US government supported him. And most of the white Cubans in Miami who are now calling Castro an evil dictator had no problem staying in Cuba when Batista was in charge. Being a dictator isn't the reason the United States government or the WHITE Cubans in Miami have a problem with Fidel Castro. They were perfectly happy with another dictator in Batista. The reason the WHITE Cubans in Miami hate Fidel is because he upended the system of WHITE SUPREMACY in Cuba. Before Fidel, black and brown Cubans had nothing. They had no education. They had no jobs. They had no property. They lived in abject poverty. All the power and money was controlled by a few white elites in the upper class. Then Fidel said we ain't having it anymore. He said everyone in Cuba, black and white, had a right to benefit in the nations resources. So he nationalized Cuba's resources and property. He gave universal education and healthcare to everyone. He improved the lives of everyone in the country but most especially black and brown Cubans who were heavily oppressed. Once he did that the rich white Cubans ran to Miami and have been trying to undermine his efforts to make Cuba a better place ever since.

That is why you only see WHITE Cubans in Miami protesting Castro even though 36% of the Cuban population is non-white. The Castro regime has not been perfect for black and brown people. There is still racism in Cuban society. However, there ain't a single black or brown Cuban who would trade the Castro regime for what came before it.

I asked, you answered so I thank you.

Do you think he is a hero to most black Cubans?

Without a doubt. Its really sad that Americans have been brainwashed to hate Castro and have no knowledge of the history of Cuba BEFORE Fidel Castro.

Do you know that Cuba was ruled by another dictator before Castro?

A dictator that America supported. Its funny how we hate some dictators but have no problem with others. The dictator that preceded Castro was named Batista and he was especially brutal. The biggest reason Castro was able to garner so much support for the Cuban revolution is because of how bad Batista was. He was so corrupt that he let the Mafia have free reign all over the country. This was popularized by Francis Coppola in the Godfather 2.

But beyond being a crook, Batista was also especially racist. Cuban society has always been racist. But this guy was basically Cuba's Woodrow Wilson. In a nation where black and brown people had no power or money, he went out of his way to make life even more difficult for them. Before Fidel Castro, Cuba was basically a Jim Crow type country. After Fidel it became like the US after the civil rights movement. Is life perfect for black and brown Cubans now under the Castro regime? No. Cuba still has a long way to go in terms of racial equality. Just as the US has a long way to go ourselves when it comes to racial equality. However, Cuba is in a much better place today under Castro than it was before under Batista. And that is why black and brown Cubans love and support him so much.
