No idea about his interest in Houston but he is ready for the next move to a better job. If I were him and only choosing between Houston and Miss St, I would take Houston. Houston is primed to keep winning big. Kyle Allen will be the QB for the next year or two. Herman showed you can be in spotlight there and turn it into a dream job. Mullen is a much better coach than he gets credit for because he is at Miss St and nobody really cares about them post Dak. He could go there and increase his stock and Houston is willing to pay

You're right. The cupboard is not bare in Houston. They had a top 10 class in 2016. They have some talent to work with but just like he did with our talent it will fail or be taken downhill.

Hilarious to see Vandy tackle better than us. This is flat out ridiculous..... How do kids go from decent tacklers in HS to not being able to bring guys down at Tennessee? And we are tackling this bad late in the year. Bituli will be a good one though.

He had 2 bad games. One with both tackles out against the best DL in the history of football perhaps.

The USCe game was an embarrassment for everyone. Other than that debord has been damn good against everyone else

He had a terrible first half of every game for the first 2/3s of our season. App and Ohio were both offensive messes.

Update from Fort on coaches recruiting this week...

"Tennessee coaches are on the road and tomorrow several Tennessee coaches will be at the Mr. Footall Awards at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Cade Mays, Trey Smith, Ty Chandler and a few other big-time players will be in attendance. It's not technically a contact day since the coaches won't speak with the players.

Tennessee is scheduled to see Trey Smith midweek, with a visit from Butch Jones and several staff members likely to happen on Wednesday.

That's the big visit this week.

Cam Akers made it to Ohio State this weekend from talking to a couple of different people. What is interesting is that we're hearing Akers may not decide early and may wait to sign in February.

That means the Vols won't have to try and squeeze in an official visit in the next few days if he does that. His team will play in a state championship game on Friday so we will see what happens there.

Elsewhere, Tommy Thigpen will be in Alabama tomorrow checking in on Tennessee commitment Will Ignont. He will also see defensive end LaBryan Ray who has set his official visit for Jan. 13-15.

Also in Alabama, Bubba Thompson is scheduled to meet with Mike DeBord on Tuesday.

Both Cheyenne Labruzza and Terrell Bailey are expecting Tennessee coaches to visit them on Wednesday. We expect Robert Gillespie to be in Louisiana during that time to not only visit Tennessee's commitments, but also check in on Travis Etienne as well.

Virginia Beach-area commitments Eric Crosby and the Gaddy brothers are all expecting visits from Tennessee coaches early this week, likely Tuesday. We expect coach Azzanni and Stripling to be in the area. We wouldn't be shocked if the coaches visited defensive lineman Ryan Thaxton, who is scheduled to take an official visit to Tennessee next month.

Tennessee coaches will be in the Sunshine State later in the week. Darrian Felix is expecting coach Gillespie on Thursday. On Wednesday, James Brown is expecting Larry Scott and Jacquez Jones is expecting Zach Azzanni midweek as well.

Jones is continuing to receive attention from several other programs and could be one to watch as an official visitor at other programs come January.

Mahoney will be in West Virginia on Thursday to see Riley Locklear.

Defensive linemen Matthew Butler and Deandre Johnson both have games on Friday night in the playoffs and both are expecting some Tennessee coaches at their game.

We will continue to update coaches visits throughout the week as we find out more destinations. We expect the next two weeks before the dead period to provide some new names at new positions.

I don't necessarily think that means new official visitors this month, but likely more in January."

- Fortenberry

Thanks, Ron. Very much appreciate all that you do.

Assuming butch is back next year what do y'all think a realistic record is?

Georgia Tech in ATL W
Indiana Stata W
@Florida L
UMass W
Georgia L
USCe W
@ Alabama L
@ Kentucky W
Southern Miss W
@ Missouri W
LSU L
Vanderbilt W

EDIT: GT is a toss up though. Obviously can't count Vandy or USCe as a sure win either.

I don't see UF or Georgia improving enough to be sure losses. We will be favorites to beat Georgia if we win at UF.

We are better than florida. They lose their defense and Mac hasn't restocked. Their offense won't be any better either imo.

LSU is a toss up as it is here, Coach O at Ole Miss and their play vs Florida guide me to a toss up.

This should be a 10 win season if things don't go off the rails and twenty billion key injuries don't occur.

I am waiting for a vote of confidence from the team. If he has lost their respect he truly is done. This needs to get resolved soon. Is he our guy or not? The longer they allow speculation the worse it is going to get.

I agree that Debord is not the problem. I would argue that he was very bad against Appy St. and mediocre against Ohio. He was also pretty average against Georgia, but overall, I think his offense has been very good.

It's been 48 hours and still all I can muster to post is I am just really, severely disappointed.

I was going to be able to stay excited and ignore all the signs of poor coaching with a 9-3 record with the one big hiccup. But it is sadly obvious we are back to where there are major internal issues with our beloved Vols and I hate to say that. I really wanted Butch to work out, because I know what this next 24 month window looks like and it usually doesn't look pretty.

Leaving Neyland Stadium on September 24th I was convinced we had turned the corner, I want to still believe that only a few assistant changes and some more players will fix this, but I think we are passed that point.

I'm all torn up inside fellas.

Go Vols.

I would say Dobbs and Kamara are very good. Not Debord and Butch.

We are still too conservative and only let our best players loose when we are desperate. He gets off the gas too soon and steps on it too late.

What needs to get resolved? Fans and media are upset, that's all this is at this point.

This sums up my feelings as well. It's hard to believe how great everything was looking only for it to turn out like this.

You're right. I was referring to showing a united front behind Butch. End any speculation he is getting fired or leaving for another job. End any speculation he doesn't have the respect of the team. National signing day is around the corner.

I'm still angry at the loss and even more angry at Admin because they are going to eff up this AD hire just as they have the Chancellor hire. Word is she doesn't want Blackburn and apparently no one else does either- you would think after the disaster this past weekend, steady leadership from a Tennessee man would be welcomed but no we can't have that around here. I wish the Haslams and Anderson's would jump off the bridge in Knoxville take their damn money with them. We need people making decisions that care about the university and still take pride in our athletics.

Difference in getting it and not

What are the expectations of your program?

National championships - Tom Herman

I don't like putting a number on it each season is its own entity - Butch jones

S&C philosophy:

"I've never heard a national champion coach say we out finessed the other team. " - Herman

"Your fired Dave, we need to go smaller and faster aka finesse" - Butch

Come on man jones never said "we need to go smaller"

You are reaching for goodness sakes.

This team is just too talented to be 8-4 with losses to Vandy, SC and aTm. I just keep thinking that. We should be celebrating Barnett today. Instead we're talking about a coach that can't win with some of the best talent to play at Tn in over a decade. Barnett is an all time great. Kamara got 6 touches a game behind a guy who didn't want to be here. These are serious issues

Has anybody checked Tennessee's record when Reggie White was playing here?

1980: 5-6
1981: 8-4
1982: 6-5-1
1983: 9-3

Not much different than current... 11 game regular seasons. During this time, Tennessee lost to UK, Vandy and I think Ole Miss. There were some inexplicable loses.

I was a Freshman in 1981. I have seen a variety of season results. They always called for Coach Majors to be fired in the down years. I see a lot of similarities between CJM and CBJ.

Just something to mull over. Very good to excellent seasons often followed mediocre or underachieving seasons.

Social media is ruining college sports with all the inpatient instant gratification crowd.
