What are our insiders hearing?

That type of thing is wearing thin for the fans. When they start missing dollars they just might get the message. This is too great of a place with too great of a fanbase for the Administration to go cheap forever. They need to be careful and listen. GBO!!!!

It's very frustrating.

Cut is a happy as a pig in slop. and way he would put up with the crap this board’s posters. He is whew he is wanted appreciated, and very happy. Duke fans have way too much class to act like some of the posters here.

Right, nothing to do with the fact Duke sux as a football school for most of their history and they haven't been exposed to winning actual championships so they are content with less. That's not it at all, it's because our fans are bad. Got it.

Cutcliffe would entertain an offer from UT, not that it would happen. He would.

Could be. I have no idea, but it's clear that the defense he had in Nashville and State College never showed up here. Not even close.

Valid question. I'd love to hear Shoop's honest explanation on what went wrong.

Go Vols.

Valid response: you would have a better chance getting an honest explanation from Shoop than you would from Butch.

Why would we want Cut as a HC?

Cut wins 11 games with this team this year.

He's miles ahead of Butch. He is at Duke because they have no expectations and he has no stress.

No way, so you want a coach that likes no expectations and no stress? Cut is past his time, like I said would have been good hire after Kiffin.

The comment was in reference to someone saying he wouldn't be interested. It's not true.

However, with the right staff, there would be reason to want him. I don't think he would assemble that staff, but for starters, he has done a remarkable job in an almost impossible situation at Duke, is an offensive mastermind, grooms quarterbacks, and could persuade Manning to help if anyone could. He would have been the good choice imo in 2010, not necc. now, but I wouldn't hate it. I don't think it would or should be seriously on the radar but I was simply saying he wouldn't stay at Duke over UT.

Do you think Shoop is here next year?

I have no idea. I'm not an insider, or a booster, or a major donor. I'm just a lifelong Vol fan. I've been wrong more than I've been right. But over the years, my professional trade has taught me to sit back and watch what's going on...follow the facts...evaluate things with a neutral eye...and then draw my conclusions based on that.

For the record, I was wrong about Kiffin. And Dooley. And now, Jones. Not to mention the fact that I pissed away the VolNation Season Pick Contest with a scalding 4-6 finish.

If you're looking for a prognosticator, you could do a lot better than me.

So, Shoop? My guess is "no". Whether it be because of Butch, or Shoop, I think the complete collapse of this defense over the last 3 weeks is too much for one of them, or both. Butch knows his job depends on the 2017 season. Shoop figures Jones is gone based on what he has seen from the inside. If Shoop stays, it's with his pick of assistants. I doubt if Jones agrees to that, and even if he does, I doubt if Shoop can get who he wants. Bad news travels fast.

You didn't ask, but since we're there, I think DeBord stays. He's in Butch's pocket, and there isn't an FBS team out there that would hire DeBord.

As late as roughly 9 pm Saturday night, I thought Butch might be able to salvage the 2016 season, the 2017 recruiting class, and the future of UT football. I went to bed in the 3rd quarter. I saw, clearly, what was happening. I woke up Sunday morning to the realization that the UT football program was pretty much in the same place it had been 8 years ago when all of this crap started. That was a very depressing thing to face.

I am of the opinion that Butch is likely gone after the 2017 season, if not at some point during the season.

And if you're going to start over, then you start from scratch. With that in mind, Shoop is gone. For him, sooner is actually better than later.

Go Vols.

Fulmer put this program on life support, Kiffin killed it and Dooley buried it. Butch did everything you could want to breathe life back into a dead program with his energy and recruiting. His shortcomings are in game coaching and being too stubborn to make staff changes. Team 120 was overhyped, undisciplined, poor in S&C, decimated with injuries and dismissals/transfers - Herd, O'brian, Williams. Shoop cannot be this bad a DC. I know he even commented on this team's lack of conditioning. I hope Butch can turn it around but the odds are against him - with a new AD coming in and recruits hearing Butch may not be around much longer. Either way it looks like he is here for at least one more year. At least Auburn, A&M, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss State, Ark, and Florida don't have a whole lot to sell to recruits either. Can't believe I just listed all those teams - wow is the SEC bad right now, maybe there is hope for the vols...

Something was up with Shoop this year and I think it had a lot to do with not bringing his guys. I just don't believe he's a genius at other stops and a complete idiot here. Also, lets not forget his halftime adjustments earlier in the year and how everyone thought he was a genius then. I really think he needs some of his guys here. It's clear he doesn't believe in some of the guys on the staff - Thig and Martinez. I want to give Shoop another chance because I really do think he's one of the better DC's even though it didn't show this year, but it did show in adjustments. I think if we give Shoop another chance and let him bring in some of his guys he could be good. Also, I think Debord stays.

Very well said.

Tell me outside of the 2014 legacy class what has Jones done in recruiting that no other coach has been able to do here? Hell Dooley had top 15 classes, stop with this delusion that hes this awesone recruiter.

According to Rivals
Dooleys average class= 13th
Jones average class= 11.5

So is he really knocking it out of the park?

You're going to have to rerank that 2014 class, 13-14 of those guys are long gone.

If Shoop needs his folks to be successful - then let him go and hire them.

I'll make bold prediction that the S&C guy gets axed. Not as much $$ in that position to worry about and a way to "show" fan base that changes are being made. A sacrificial lamb for the Vol natives. Half serious with this.

I have heard that feelers are being put out by a certain group of UT boosters which includes some former players. Actually started last week, so not sure what's up with that. I didn't get that from UT folks, but from someone in another schools AD office.

that would not surprise me. Happened as early as September in Dooley's last year

Thats what im afraid of! What good name D or O coordinators would want to come into this dumpster fire?!

look at the NFL -- there will be alot of firing (not just HCs but entire staffs)happening there from the looks of the records of half the teams -- UT needs to hire NFL guys like Harbaugh did

Well said summary of the FKD years... Butch put it back on life support with good recruiting, but Vandy pulled the plug.

I think Shoop is the best coach on the staff, but will leave first chance he gets. Butch may have to rehire whats-his-name, Janeck?

This will be a comedy of clowns next year, maybe a 3 or 4 win season, and a stinking cess-pool again.
