Butch to UH wouldn't be a horrible move for him. If it happens, I fully expect us to make a run at PJ Fleck.

But really though...

2017
HC: Butch Jones
DC: Shoop
OC: Debord

Assistants: ???

Position coaches are the scapegoat. That's the reality imo

Might not attend a game if Shoop is our DC. I've completely turned my attention away from Debord at this point. Debord is bad but Shoop is worse than Sunseri by a mile.

I keep going back to the lawsuit. Everything seemed great and team and coaches appeared united until that news came out in the media- remember LWS mentioned how angry Butch was that UT didn't settle that before it went public. The Bowles incident was particularly damning and many thought Butch might be fired then. As much as he bristles at local media for asking about losses and play calling, how the hell do you think he liked that news being splattered all over national media? Obviously something has happened and I don't know if Butch was maybe told he would need to seek other opportunities or if he decided this isn't worth it I'm done. And that is what Neuheisal was referring to at the beginning of the season (dealing with something coaches shouldn't have to)? I'm just wondering out loud, but that is the only thing I can think of that could have torn apart things to this degree from our fantastic bowl win on New Years Day to today. I honestly cannot believe we are talking about a coaching search AGAIN.

First half of the season before all our DT were gone had some pretty impressive defensive performances, although usually only in the 2nd half. You must have a short memory to think he's worse than sunseri.

I'm too lazy to go back and find the old threads but I remember someone posting some quotes from a Cincinnati board saying the same things vols fans are now.

He is a snake oil salesman
You will get tired of coach speak
He got luck when he won the conference
He isn't that good of an x and o coach

Maybe somebody that isn't as lazy as me will go dig it up

If I remember it was recruiting violations. Maybe had something to do with the recruitment of Lache Seastrunk.

I just looked it up he was charged with failure to monitor his staff. The article said chip didn't actually do anything wrong but he owned up to the infractions since he was the head coach. Also Oregon lost 3 scholarships 1 for each year the violations occurred.

Remember that. Just thought they were extra salty at the time.

"They didn't appreciate what I accomplished there" maybe. Media, after mocking him constantly, would turn on TN fans viciously lol

I thought Butch would bail after a 10 win season. Then the media would definitely paint Tennessee as toxic. But the champions of life comment + losses to South Carolina and Vandy + overall reputation as being a terrible in-game coach means that there won't be much said if he leaves.

We as fans and the program/AD won't be painted in a bad light if he goes elsewhere, that's for sure. Might have happened if he got us to the Sugar Bowl and especially if he won it, though.

We averaged more yards(about 15) and points(1, but we had more non offensive TD'slast year) than we did last year and on less plays. Sad our defense gave up 10 million yards and 1 billion points

I've been down with some sickness the last couple of days (preceding the game as well). Lots of puking and bedrest, so I've been enjoying some Kitchen Nightmares on YouTube.

Gordon Ramsay goes into failing restaurants to try to help them recover into a sustainable business. There are often many problems, but one of the key ones is the incredible denial of the chef, manager, or business owner. They literally think they make the best food in the world, in spite of constant criticism of customers, and even a world class chef. Everyone is out to get them.

Ramsay pulls no punches, and absolutely tells them straight to their face how it is. He is brash and rude, but if you see through that, he is giving facts that can change their lives if they will accept them. Most often... they feign change, and do not change over the long-term.

Here is a short clip, and there will be salty language... and lots of it.

Seriously... if the F-word is something you'd rather not hear, just read skip the vid.

Butch is in denial. The restaurant is failing, and there has to be an important voice in his life that calls him on this crap. He has to set aside his arrogant denial, accept personal failure, and make changes.

The cards are extremely stacked against him, and the ability of the human psyche to inflict self-denial is a phenomenon that is mind numbing. Sadly, this is most likely a downward projectory that will end up with us hiring an "up and coming" coach or a "proven veteran" who is past their time.

Butch has his pipe dreams, and we fans have ours, but no one is really living in reality.

LSU moved on from a good coach that had won them a NC in mid season. They tried to move on from him the year before when he was going 9-3, but were more broke than we were. Finances improved and they pulled the trigger. That's what programs that want to be elite do when they determine they can do better. They don't let it fester. UF/Muschamp, UGA/Richt are other examples. Who they picked may be up for debate as being better, but they took action when they needed to in effort to get better.

Richt should have been fired a few years before he was. Terrible example

How is that a terrible example? I am suggesting that schools move on when they determine they can do better. They did, they fired him. Your opinion of when they should have fired him has nothing to do with my post.

You said they don't let it fester. That festered for a while

They also complained about him making puzzling personnel decisions and not putting the best 11 on the field. Sounds familiar.
