Who you gonna get jj? In what real world scenario are we gonna fire our current coach at the cost of $10m and then hire someone to make the "pay for a winner" crowd happy?

Give me one realistic name along with figures of what it would cost.

My comment about saban was in reference to how unrealistic this mob of idiots sounds. "Bring in a proven winner" sounds so stupid to me. It's not based in reality considering our current situation.

I agree to an extent. You could argue that there aren't really any "proven winners" on the market. There are coaches to be had that have a better chance of success than Butch though. The last numbers I saw showed the UTAD operating at well over a $10M annual surplus with the TV money, so when you balance the buyout against lost revenue from a couple seasons of hardcore apathy, I can see the business case for it if all you care about is the finances.

As far as specific names that I would consider reasonable and give a better chance at SEC titles than Butch off the top of my head in no particular order I'd say

Mullen
McIntyre
Strong
Taggert
Kiffin

It's just hard for me to see Butch being able to put together the staff he's going to need to be successful this offseason, and I seriously doubt his ability to self correct and grow on and off the field.

Edit: I would probably add Brian Kelly and Les Miles.

Kudos to hyams for not spreading rumors and crying about the press conference last night like all the other pieces of **** we have for local media.

If I was but the only thing I would tell the media is bad loss or Good win after each game and after each practice I would say the team look good and that would be my answer to every one of their questions for those *******s

Agree with all that.

Short sample size? He took over Mike Belotti's core and won with it. Larry Coker did the same with Butch Davis's roster. Grading him past that showed he wasn't ELITE...maybe not even mediocre. Kelly's assistants managed to gather some talent and Helfrich was at that level...at first...how'd that end up. It's not a coaching X's and O's thing...much respect for him. I think he absolutely hates recruiting and that would kill him in the SEC...and it would exclude him as an elite coach...part of the elite package. Name me a legendary college coach who sucked at recruiting.

Belotti was there for almost 15 years and didn't accomplish what Kelly did in four. Helfrich is the Coker in this situation.

I think Mullen, MacIntyre, and Taggart will all still be available next season.

Those 3 could/should be our top candidates. All 3 need good seasons in 2017, though.

Out of your list

Mullen - yes
McIntyre - nah (bc of candy ties)
Strong - nope (horrible at TX and that school recruits itself
Tag feet - maybe but not a sure thing
Kiffin - NO ( why don't people remember what happened with him the first time?)

OK. Dude. Butch has plenty of critics may be rightfully so. As of now he is our coach and I support him. You have been just aching to be so right. You might be. But as long as the potential is there for him to be leading our players next year I will support him, while not necessarily agreeing with everything he does. But go off by all means.

You've exercised as much, if not more, snark as I have, and I get it. Tough times for everyone- Id relish being wrong more than right. I'll support the team too, but you are correct, I'm unequivocally convinced we are better off without Butch. I know what my opinion means in the scheme of things, and suspect I'll keep consuming whatever they throw in front of me.

Maybe CBJ can pull an Urban-- feign vague heart issues and claim he needs to take some time off and rest. He saves face, we work out an undisclosed deal and hire someone else. Next year, voila-- CBJ's health is rejuvenated and he's ready to tackle a less demanding job in an easier conference. If Urbie was "mentally broke" after a disappointing season at UF, why can't CBJ use that excuse?

What can I say, I like the slow pitch. :) s/

But if he has another year and recruiting tanks and we go 8-4 or 7-5 again and he gets fired. That's another terrible recruiting class for 2018. Now the new coach comes in and has to rebuild. We go out and pony up and get a guy now, he has a talented roster to win now and can develop them as well. I believe that we only go backwards if he stays another year or 2. Going to be hard to get a great staff to come work here when he is the laughingstock of college football

That could happen too! If I could predict what's gonna happen, I'd be cashing my 400 million dollar lotto ticket in today!!
Thing is, keeping him seems like the lesser of the two evils right now. Look, we all know he's not gonna run the program in the ground like Dooley did! He may never be more than a 8-9 win coach, but I'd take a couple of stable 8-9 win seasons over back to back to back 5-7 seasons!

Well fine then!

I don't know why I'm still yelling!!

I would just add that even if you are making enough to cover the $10m as you're suggesting may be true it doesn't mean you should/will. They aren't gonna pay $10m to fire a guy who rebuilt the program even if he is average.

Dooley's buyout was $6m iirc. We make our final payment this December I believe.

Would anyone buy that? Would just make Butch look like an even bigger joke.

It was a joke with Urban, but at least he had two national championships and a ton of success. When you win a lot, you can get away with anything.

Why does playing at Vandy for two years matter that much?

Sorry for being so vulgar I just can't stand our local media all they are is s*** starters

Media needs to be reigned in. I would have made an example out of Seth stokes last year when he pulled his stunt. I would have banned him.

Wes Rucker stirs it too. I would ban him as well.

People need to keep in mind that coaching records in these other crap conferences can be deceiving. Winning at Colorado or western Michigan doesn't mean you can do it in the SEC.

These "proven winners" a lot of times are just winning in crap conferences. It can translate but doesn't always.

Just like Bob Shoop coming here with his stats. Didn't translate. Sure things are seldom sure.

I was curious about the status of Dooley's buyout. Wasnt sure when that was up.

If these numbers are right we're operating at around a $13M annual surplus.

Well, he looks like he's going to stroke out on the sideline every game. Even if people didn't totally buy it, it would be a face-saving strategy. And honestly, CBJ is already a punchline in every major publication and on every sports media show. He seems very sensitive to it, so time away from the spotlight could be a benefit.

They're also winning with " crap" conference players.

Not like they are coaching an Alabama against the Sun Belt.

"As I said last week and in the Day After this morning, I think that Jones' name will show up on list.

Remember Herman and Butch have the same agent. And so Butch's agent has been talking to Houston people for the last week.

We will see if any materializes from the rumors out there. But agents always float names. That's what they are paid to do."
