Butch completely orchestrated the press conference after the game last night by pretty much going straight from the field to the media room. Very few media were there, including most all of the media who cover the program daily (beat writers). He didn't want to face them as he knew there would be tough questions. As soon as the small group of media that was there couldn't come up with anything to ask, Butch bolted and left his players to deal with the rest of the media who arrived later.

Coward move!

He's probably arrogant enough to not want fired on his resume. I think he may just leave. My only concern is we don't have an AD in place.

I think he's smart enough to realize that he's a dead man walking. Won't be able to get any good assistants to work for him and will lose 5-6 games next year. Will have a new boss who may be much more committed to winning football games.

If he gets fired, he may never coach again. If he leaves now, he can head back to somewhere like Cincy.

I'd really like to thank Coach Jones for letting us become the laughingstock of college football again it all starts with him and our ******n local media those guys are part of the problem too I kind of don't blame him for leaving before those *******s got there they didn't need any more sound bites they make their own s*** up anyways

Having a lot of self-confidence is a good thing. Having too much can be disastrous. Fine line between the two.

Very true. Outward self confidence should balance with public perception. You can't act like Saban with his results. I think the best coaches have confidence but also can look inward to find flaws.

yea this is likely the reality. debord retires, mahoney takes another job, and shoop hires his own defensive staff.

Ship should be able to hire his own staff and an offensive coordinator should be able to come in to bring his own guys input can't let him do that which does need to go that's an a****** move

Yep, self preservation mode.

So I don't think the fan base was this mad with Dooley, more resigned to the fact. Butch actually recruited the players to compete then completely failed us on the field. If Butch walks I do believe he leaves the program better then he found it.

I worry about the timing if Butch ends up leaving for another school. That would put us behind the 8-ball in the coaching search and the last thing I want is to end up with another Dooley because all the other programs have already hired the best candidates

He did the first 4 minutes and then left Kesling hanging.

Maybe that will qualify as a breach of contract. He gets paid extra to do that show. He is revealing his character now, for sure. He preaches so much about adversity and how to overcome it and then when he is under adversity, he bails. Adversity does reveal character and he is showing his true colors now.

Let's look at the programs that hired a proven, elite coach.

Alabama
Ohio State
Michigan
Washington

Hmmmmmmmmmm

As simple as it gets
When playing fields are similar, coaching is the difference .

We have lost games to teams who we are even with or superior to talent wise every year he's been here.

If Butch leaves...

5 head coaches in 10 seasons

4 head coaches in 6 seasons in basketball

Most dysfunctional AD in the SEC by far.

How are we the laughing stock of college football when Notre Dame exists?

We're behind the 8-ball no matter what with our AD situation.

I just don't see a winning scenario here for UT. Somebody show me a positive path forward. I'm an optimist by nature, and I need a ray of hope.

Butch walks. We hire Mullen. That's about the best scenario we could realistically ask for.

Think about his statements to Hubbs earlier in the week. Talking about how he can't understand why everyone doesn't love him.

That was a red flag. Yeah we caught it and discussed it but damn he checked out. His demeanor on the sideline showed his give a damn is busted.

He needs to go on and leave. He's miserable

Gruden is looking at schools for his kids and Lovie's plane is circling Knoxville waiting on clearance to land.
Feel better now?

The guys on The Drive radio show in Knoxville talked about a Doomsday scenario last week. It started with us losing to Vandy, then sliding to a middle if the road bowl and losing that as well. If that happens, fan apathy would be enormous and our program would be set way back.

If LWS is right and we have a mass exodus of coaches, Butch will be a dead man walking so what's the point in keeping him. I really hope the mass exodus includes Butch walking on his own.

Clay Travis on Outkick the coverage last night--- Holy shnikes this dude was dead nuts on! I highly recommend you go watch it. He said Mason helicopter di@$-slapped Butch for four quarters.... that says it all.
