I think it is fascinating Tom Herman lost a game he shouldn't have in large part because he was missing a bunch of key defensive starters and some on our board once again draws all the wrong conclusions (Herman's overrated!).

Right before our eyes a universally praised coach struggled to win with back up defensive players.

I personally give Herman a big pass on yesterday's game. With scholarship limits, etc I fully understand why they lost that game.

I agree. Analytics is hard stuff for those that only watch scoreboards and where the ball is on every play. Herman is great one in the making.

If a person had watched #10 play DT as a freshman for UH this season, they would know why Houston lost yesterday even without the other injured starters. Remove Barnett from our line-up and see what happens. There is nobody remotely close to sub that can produce at their level. Ferguson is a legit top talent at QB. His head was messed up when with us. He got it together.

Which is what kills me about the Shoop is bad crowd. JRM was one of the top 3 LB's in the nation. He helped the D-line achieve more because O-linemen had to know where he was on every play. Which made Kirkland even better. Same in the secondary with Cam. Top 5 DB when healthy. Eliminates any real concerns you have on one side of the field as well as being a game breaker with his PR's. They had nobody developed enough to play at or near their level. Then Kirkland goes down, then the best DT's are gone. Then the safeties start getting injured. It all spiraled out of control of even one of the very best DC's in the business.

Some on here need to lurk and learn the game before spouting off gibberish. We can have differences of opinion, but at least make it credible.

‏@JordyCulotta LSU will announce @Coach_EdOrgeron HFC at noon - sources telling me Lane Kiffin tied to the deal as OC. Presser at noon @1045espn

Some of the LSU media is saying Ed O getting the job was contingent on bringing Kiffin as OC.

Wouldn't make any sense for Kiffin.

Been a long time since I've seen such a logical post.

Saban will tell Kiff to hit the road today if true. Going to a rival won't set well

First of all I don't think Herman is a bad coaching prospect. I do think it is ridiculous for a certain percentage of our crowd to hate our coach and covet Herman so much. All those good REASONS for Houston's struggle yesterday, don't extremely losing losing to SMU earlier in the season...or Navy.

Butch actually won championships at his previous stops, and you guys hate him. Shortsighted losers.

It's the backup QB scenario.

Any coach is better than the one we've got until we get the next one. Then he is hot garbage. If only we would've gotten that other guy. He would've gotten it done here for sure.

I also agree with you're post Vol4. I didn't mean for my earlier post to sound like I was. I was explaining my feelings on Tom Herman. I don't have coach envy.

FWIW, when I said I didn't give Houston a pass it wasn't a criticism of Herman. More of the idea that Houston was some kind of fringe playoff team. They aren't by any stretch of the imagination, but that doesn't make a team like Houston bad, or disappointing and that doesn't mean Herman isn't a good coach.

My only thing with Herman isn't really even a criticism. I just wish coaches like him could stay and prove they can sustain a program like Houston for a longer time.

Exactly..I'm sick of the carousel. Unless you can perform industrialized cheating and game fixing like Saban does, you are going to have bad years. Hell Urby had a bad year last year, and all his slurpers just excuse away. Butchs signature season to be this year, was undone by malcontents, and injuries. But they hate the guy, because he doesn't publicly speak the way they want him to.

This is indicative of an inept AD. Why rush to hire O? At least wait until everyone's season is over.

I think he's a solid hire as a head coach. Not a splash hire, but can recruit well, field a good team, and can win. No buyout. Maybe what? 2 million a year less than Les was getting? I'd guess the AD looked at everything and saw it as worth a shot long term. We'll see.
