I'm working on a new strategy for my retirement account. My health insurance premiums are going up so I have to adjust the budget again. I worry about this drought affecting the root structure of my lawn.

Is that too adult?

Frustrating to see/hear issues still coming out that should not be happening with an experienced HC with 10 plus years of coaching.

Bringing in an OC that was out of football for years, the Hurd situation, not allowing Shoop to bring in some of his own assistants on D, being so damn stubborn and not playing the best players (Kamara/Kelly and where is Warrior?) All in the past 2 years.

Just mind baffling....maddening to say the least.

From the post on 247 that BO91 shared: I want to know why TN won't pay a HC $6 million, especially if it's a homerun hire? Are we saying that our program is not on the level of Bama or OSU? With all of the money that the programs are making from the SEC network, we should be able to afford that.

Btw, I'm only curious what others thoughts are...I'm not saying I want a new coach. I want Butch to be very successful here, but if things don't work out or if he chooses at some point to take a shot at the NFL, then I want to know why we won't try to make a big hire.

Same reasons Florida and Georgia didn't.

I don't think most programs are ready to take that step. But with the immediate success Saban Meyer and harbough have had they may not have a choice.

I have thought if Butch failed big time down the stretch here and totally blew next season, our hand might be forced.

I personally don't expect that from Butch - I like him and think he will continue to be successful. If we win the east this year he has done a remarkable job managing through injuries and adversity IMO.

This. All of it.

I want Butch to succeed, I'm sick of the HC turnover every 3-4 years. I'd like nothing more than Butch to build upon this year for the seasons to come and turn this into a perennial top 10 program agaian.

That being said...

This IS AND SHOULD BE a school that can afford to pay the RIGHT HC 6-10 million. There's no argument anyone can provide that will sway my opinion. College football is big business and the payouts are astronomical. This is a top 10 overall program, it's time this administration acts like it...when/if the time comes.

It has been frustrating. Comes in for half a quarter twice and leads the team in tackles. He can play

Abernathy is playing with injuries and giving us everything he has. Warrior gets lost in coverage and has a tendency to give up the really big play---TD's. Dude can hit though.

Does a busted coverage passing TD count more PTs than a long running TD given up?

Besides warrior has only give up one busted coverage

How come? Because they have teams ranked higher in polls? LOL.

South Carolina would smash Penn State and they currently ranked 8th.

Everyone in the West except Miss St would beat Wisconsin.

We would beat Michigan.

LSU would beat Ohio State.

The Big 10 is overrated this year. They are riding a wave based on PERCEPTION not reality. Once bowl season comes around they will be exposed like the SEC was in 2014 when we had 6 teams ranked in the top 10.

SC would smash Penn st? You cant be serious?!

I hope Butch one day earns 6 mil here. If that doesn't happen and we have to fire him one day, stop playing around and go offer Gruden 8 mil and forget about it. I'm serious about that. Vols are in a much better spot than they were 4 years ago and there's no reason Gruden wouldn't feel comfortable taking it unless he's just finished coaching

I think Abernathy is great also. I just want Warrior on the field more. I wonder if we should move TK to an OlB position or just sub Warrior in more. For whatever reason, TK is slower this year

I agree we can theoretically pay that now. But my fear is that this is a bubble, and bubbles pop, often to painful effect.

If Just a Vol is correct, things will be getting better. Especially the Blackburn and new assistant coaches parts. The new coaches bring some unexpected talent with them typically. IMO, Butch gets 6 years to get us in the NC playoffs. That gives Blackburn time to get it all rolling right and have a top replacement in mind should Butch fail. Hopefully it will be unnecessary and Butch gets it done. If not, I am with OGbv and ob79 - spend the money and get the best available. The budget will be no longer an issue at that point.
