Khabib has been murdering the division. I get why Conor got his shot at Alvarez, but it's a joke if Khabib isn't next in line. Khabib beat the best guy that Ferguson beat and he beat the **** out of the guy who beat Ferguson.

Like Conor, like his style, like the press conferences and his media game, all of it. But the belt he just won is in a division full of killers. If he truly wants to prove he's as good as he says he is, he would forfeit the 145lb belt and defend at 155 against the likes of Khabib, Nick Diaz, Ferguson and RDA. You defend that while also having cleaned out the 145lb division? Sets him up as one of the greatest ever, IMO.

As far as this "feud" with Woodley, 170 is also an extremely dangerous proposition. He needs to stay right where he is.

I bet they try and avoid that fight like a plague. Look at all of McGregor's fights. He has fought one wrestler. One. The only reason that fight happened was because Aldo got hurt and backed out. Mendes took the fight on a week's notice. Even still, he dominated McGregor with ease. Every time he attempted he took him down at will. McGregor had no defense to his takedowns. But, since he wasn't in shape, Mendes gassed badly and was basically a walking zombie and McGregor put him away. There is no question that McGregor is an elite striker. Might be the best in MMA today. But he can't wrestle. And until he fights a wrestler, he has questions to answer. That's why they avoided the fight with Frankie at 145, and that's why they will try extremely hard to avoid the fight with Khabib as well. They'll make the Ferguson fight because that will be a striking contest and McGregor will knock him out. They will do everything they can to protect McGregor from Khabib until they have no other option. It's what they have done for McGregor's entire UFC career so far. Heck, I'd still love to see the rematch with Aldo. One punch in 13 seconds doesn't prove anything.

The toughest fights are going to get harder and harder to avoid for him. He'll either retire or have to fight the top contenders. The easiest fights for him in my opinion are Diaz, Aldo, Edgar, Holloway and Pettis, and none of those are easy at all. The other fights I can see him taking are a lot harder. There's the money fight against GSP, pursuing a third belt against Woodley, and defending against Khabib or Ferguson. I'm not sure he wins any of those. I don't like him, but you can't deny his talent at this point. I'm still not ready to consider him one of the greats, but if he keeps fighting, we'll find out.

I imagine it'll work out with Conor leaving for a looong time, well at least a long time for him. Maybe not until the middle of next year. I could see him going after Diaz III.

He is a great striker. Has yet to prove he's an elite mma fighter. Needs to fight a wrestler to prove that. Diaz punked him after being on the ground with him about 30 seconds. He needs to fight someone who is not a striker only or he is still a fraud imo

I agree. His grappling is definitely one of his weaknesses. There are a number of fighters who can beat him if they can get it to the ground IMO. How many can get it to the ground is the question. Alvarez couldn't. A short camp Mendes was able to a few times. Conor was the one who took it to the ground in the first Diaz fight. Conor does have a decent takedown defense, but I think there are a few who can get it to the mat if they don't get caught first.

I believe he only has a punchers chance against Khabib.

Agreed. I have no doubt Khabib can take him down any time he wants and keep him there. I don't think he'd waste any time going for the takedown either. Conor would have to catch him on the way in. It pisses me off how he expects title shots to be given to him, but then refuses to fight the top contenders who earn shots. He's a hypocrite. All the great champions have defended against opponents that were bad matchups for them. Conor won't be in the same category as them until he does a few times.

I completely agree

A fraud?

Yeah, that doesn't mean he's a fraud in any sense.

If he's not the best, he's at least in the conversation.

Meh, too one dimensional. I'll believe it if and when he beats Khabib. I still bet they avoid that fight cause Dana has protected McGregor his entire UFC career

Edit: Let me say, I'm glad that McGregor is in mma. After watching it for so long, I was losing interest when the guys that I cheered for began to hang them up. Hughes left, Liddell, Fedor (even though he's fighting meaningless fights at times now), Cro Cop, Anderson Silva and others. McGregor has brought excitement back to the sport. I understand why Dana wants to keep him away from Khabib. These conversations about McGregor vs Floyd don't happen if Khabib beats him as easily as I think he will. McGregor is a great stand up fighter, has ridiculous power and is fun to watch. He's making the UFC tons of money also. But he hasn't proven that he's a great MMA fighter yet. He's proven that he's a great striker.

I think you're vastly under selling what he's done the last 2 or 3 years. Vastly.

He's not as well rounded as some other fighters but it doesn't seem to matter when the get in to the octagon.

He knocked what was considered the best pound for pound fighter in the world out in 13 seconds.

He fights at 155 for the first time ever and against the champ and beat him sensless.

This notion that Dana protects him is pure silliness. Was he protecting him when he allowed Conor to move up to 170 to fight Diaz? Of course not. Was he protecting him when the fight happened again, even after Diaz beat him soundly the first time around? Of course not.

I know you guys like to slurp Khabib, and for some reason have anointed him as some barrier between Conor and true greatness but Khabib needs to put together some consistency before he gets the biggest fight, you can't fight once every other year and expect to that guy. Too much talent and too many great fighters in the pool from 145-170 that deserve the money fight.

He needs to fight a wrestler. Any wrestler. Diaz is a 155 pound fighter, 170 means nothing because McGregor is bigger than him. And he's a guy with good jiu-jitsu but terrible wrestling. He also has decent standup and punked McGregor 3 fights ago. Their second fight should have been a draw imo, and they need to fight again. The only reason that rematch happened was because Dana had to try and recover McGregor's hurt image over the loss. Had McGregor pulled out a close win the way he did in the second fight, they would've never made that fight again. But the way that Dana has protected him is by keeping him from fighting wrestlers. There is no denying this. Mendes got the fight on a week's notice and owned McGregor until he gassed out and could barely stand. That fight proved that McGregor has zero chance against a guy with decent wrestling. Had Mendez had a full camp he would have won the fight, no doubt. The Aldo win is impressive, but we didn't learn anything about him. 13 second one punch knockout proves nothing that we didn't know before. Mcgregor has massive one punch KO power. I have never denied that. I even said he is one of the best strikers in MMA if not the best striker right now. But until he fights a wrestler he is just a striker. He needs to prove that he's an all around fighter and Dana will try and not let that happen and that is why Mendez, as a last minute replacement on one weeks notice, is the only wrestler that McGregor has fought in the UFC. Put him against Khabib, Frankie Edgar even, and most likely he will lose. But I will be shocked if Dana doesn't give him Tony Ferguson next, another striker, and do his best to avoid Khabib.

Dana didn't want him to do it. Saying Dana hasn't protected him is just as silly as someone acting like McGregor hasn't earned his his success.

I was about to say what Huff said. No one close to Conor advised to him to rematch Diaz. Tells you what they thought about it. Conor went out and showed toughness by doing that.

Conor's climb as a challenger was ridiculously easy

Marcus Brimage - currently 7-7
Max Holloway - this is a pretty good win
Diego Brandao - meh
Dustin Poirier - another solid victory
Dennis Siver - pretty good vet on the tail end of his career

Then he got to fight Chad Mendes on 2 weeks notice for the title.

Conor is tough, a true fighter, and a great striker. I just want to see him prove that he's an MMA fighter. To do that, he needs to fight someone who can wrestle

Conor is bigger than Diaz? News to me and probably anyone else who has watched the UFC. Also, Conor won the 2nd fight. 3 rounds to 2.

Mendes was dominating and got gassed? He did nothing but take down Conor and fail to advance anything, he did that and catch a bunch of elbows. Then yeah, he got tired from failing to out wrestle the guy who can't wrestle or do anything other than strike and promptly got knocked out. No chance in hell Mendes beats Conor. Ever.

Why does he need to prove he's some all-around great? I don't hear anyone saying Steph Curry needs to develop a post game or else he's just a 3 point shooter. That is some failed logic.

Khabib may tie him in a knot, he may also get his head cracked. Doesn't mean that Conor isn't great and Khabib isn't a monster.

I want him to fight Aldo again, he deserves it, feel bad how he's been kinda pushed aside since that fight, mainly because Conor isn't defending the belt, which he needs to do or vacate.

Yeah, that doesn't mean he's a fraud in any sense.

If he's not the best, he's at least in the conversation.

He's in the conversation, but nothing is definitive until he cleans out the 155 division (if the UFC gives the challengers in it their rightful title shots, instead of the B.S Diaz III fight). After that, sure, he's got a good argument to be at the top. Right now I'd rank it:

1.) Mighty Mouse
2.) JBJ (Suspension, stupid decisions and all)
3.) Dominick Cruz
4.) Conor McGregor

Yes, Connor is a lot bigger than Diaz. Diaz is taller, but he's a skinny rail. Are you kidding me about the Mendez fight? Chad took him down at will, with every attempt and beat him down in the ground until he got so tired he couldn't stand up. No chance Mendez ever beats Connor, even though he was having his way withhim until he completely gassed out because he took the fight on a weeks notice? Okay man. I get that you're a McGregor fan, but dang, that was obvious to anybody who watched the fight. And this isn't basketball, it's called Mixed Martial Arts. There's no doubt he's a great striker, but the only time he's fought a wrestler he was dominated. It's why Dana hasn't let him go anywhere near another one. Had he fought Edgar or any other wrestler on his way to the title we probably wouldn't be having this conversation right now. I agree, would love to see the Aldo rematch. We didn't learn anything from a one punch Ko. Even Serra did that to GSP. Would like to see them fight again
