All things considered... If we win out and go 9-3 is this season considered a success?

I don't believe Hurd was going to get the rushing record this year. 40 or 50 yards a game was not getting it done. Maybe he saw the same thing and it helped him make his decision. Just a thought. Kelly didn't have any trouble finding his yards.

He'd probably had big games against TTU and Mizzou. It was a decent possibility of a big game. Add in a bowl game and I think he'd have gotten it. Jmo

I don't see how any Vol fans wouldn't see 10 wins as a success. In a weird season, with a lot of off the field crap happening, and a bunch of injuries, an insane amount of injuries, we lost a game we shouldn't, but 10 wins is huge considering where we've been

Considering how long it has been since TN won 9 games in a regular season what else would you call it? Sure we all thought it would be at least 10 wins but winning out is still better than any recent history.

If we win the SEC east and make it to ATL, yes.

If UF wins out and makes it to ATL, no.

I just can't think that way. How UF performs doesn't have any affect on whether or not I think our season was a success.

If they lost 5 and we lost 4 would you think our season was a success just because UF sucked a little worse? Im not saying you're a bad person for thinking that way, just can't make myself think that way.

Their performance matters 100% when they're ahead of us and control what slim chance we have to win the east.

I think you missed the point. I'm not saying their performance doesn't affect our place in the division standings. I'm saying their performance doesn't affect my opinion of whether or not our season was a success. If we won 11 and they won 12 I'd say our season was a success. If they won 6 and we won 7 and got to ATL, I'd say our season was a disappointment
.

What if we dominate our last 4 games, lose in a very close game in the SEC championship, then dominate a top 15 team in the bowl game

This season considered a success?

It's not a binary choice. You can be on the spectrum. It would be more of a success than if those things didn't happen, and less of a success than if we'd beaten USC and aTm.

I get it, but ATP, winning the east is the only way to salvage this season with our hype/expectations coming. They control that directly

Y'all realize you are hoping a one loss team will lose two more, while a team that just lost to a bottom feeder as well as 3 in a row needs to win out. I realize stranger things have happened and the orange runs deep. Hope it happens. It would restore faith in Butch somewhat.

Bama doesn't because they run what fits their players best.

Last year with Henry they did

BAMA has been running both spread and West Coast elements since Kiffin arrived. They ran a ton of spread and incorporated the HUNH that Saban had previously maligned last season. Some have called the offense they ran a pro-style spread or a power spread. It's actually not that different from what we run and it's similar to what Petrino ran at Arkansas. Here's a preview article on it: Alabama Football 2015 Preview: Why the Pro Style Spread Could Emerge - Roll 'Bama Roll

As for us, why on Earth would you tailor your offense to an RB who never had home run ability when you have other players (Dobbs, Kamara, Kelly, etc.) that it fits and the complaining RB was effective in when he actually gave effort?

I'm generally a posi-Vol, but no way would the excitement be back.

The tone will be, "So what? Now we just get our a**** handed to us again by Bama and go to a lame bowl game."

Win the SEC, and folks may get chipper.

I'm still on the fence about what is a better perception:

1. Win the East, lose the SEC Championship.
2. Lose the East, win out, including the bowl game.

I'd rather just

3. Win the East, win the SEC, win the bowl game, and go home happy.

I'd rather do that too but if Bama is who we face we're not winning that game, imo. We've lost too many players that won't be back for the SECCG. Maybe if we won out, made it to Championship and then faced TAMU or LSU but the players we needed most for a BAMA rematch are out for the season.

Objectively I think 9-3/10-3 is still successful but I don't think that it meets expectations and with this fanbase expectations are all that really matters. But it's hard to say that any 9 or 10 win season isn't a successful one, it's just one that doesn't satisfy fans.
