I just remember lots of people clamoring for him and afraid we'd lose him.

Fans make knee jerk reactions based on fear/nothing.

Lose him to who?? Has he had a 1000 yard receiver in his 4 years here? He's turned WRU into a joke. Probably the easiest coach to negative recruit against.

Butch has to see all if the negative stories right now about him and the team. Losing Hurd looks really bad no matter how it is spun because most people arent getting the real info on VN:) They see a player short of the rushing record just up and quit. Not to mention how poorly Butch managed all of this to begin with. It never should have spiraled to this point and the time to show him the door was during the bye week. We probably beat SC had Hurd not been the huge distraction he was for the team. Butch clearly showed favoritism to Hurd and the other players see that.

Definitely agree with jave. It is pattern going back to the first year, strongly reinforced by hiring his old friend as OC to run it Butch's way. I agree he shouldn't tell everything to the media. He should use the media to let all of us know that he recognizes material changes need to occur, then follow up and make them. That's what is wrong. He gives lip service and then does next to nothing. Shoop was a big hire, but it was because of Jancek's personal issues that it even happened.

Going forward he needs to hire a strong OC outside of his circle, then get out of his way and let the OC choose who he wants as asst, coaches except for Gillespie if he wants to stay. Same for Shoop. Make any changes he wants except for Stripling until he decides to retire. If Butch does it can restore confidence in him. He can then get back to doing what he does well - recruit. It would go a long way to moving the program up to the elite.

All I said was I want to see meaningful changes instead of "this is on coaches" every single week with 0 actual changes being made. Team comes out exactly as flat every single week as it did week 1. You sensationalists just can't handle someone saying anything with which you disagree without responding with asinine levels of hyperbole.

Look at your post, does it really match the intensity of my casual comment that CBJ needs to do more than verbally own problems and instead make actual changes?

You've solved so much...all on your own. :good!:

Agree with all of this. Butch needs to hire a top OC that he's never worked with before and let him run the offense and bring in whoever he wants with him. Shoop can be allowed to do the same. I would only want to keep Shoop, Gillespie, and Stripling personally. If this happens, Butch can be hands off and focus on what he does best: recruit, motivate, and be the CEO and face of the program. He needs to follow the Dabo model and I think he can be successful by doing that. This is the only way IMO to significantly extend his career at UT and to get this program to where we all want it to be.

In January 2015, fans liked Azzani.

Liked him as a WR coach and recruiting coordinator, sure. But to think that there was this huge groundswell to name him as OC, when he had never had any major experience in that role, is revisionist history at its best.

^^Here's a thread in the fall of 2014 about Azzani.

I agree, saying half the fanbase is an exaggeration but he was well liked by fans. Here's a thread talking about it.

So what you've linked here is a preview article about candidates for the UT job, a preview article for candidates for the MARYLAND job, and a couple of threads. I skimmed the first one, but definitely not seeing a huge clammoring for him in that thread. In fact, a lot of people already had issues with his coaching of the WRs.

Jim Bob wasn't an NFL OC at that moment.

He was projected for the job at the time, but you're right he wasn't there yet. JBC even as a QB coach has always been high on my list of coaches I'd want after all the things Peyton has said about him.

The bolded is what I do not understand. If a new OC is brought in, then he should have the authority to hire all positions (imo). If Coach G is the best thing since sliced bread as some think, then he will get a position on the staff. Best available should be hired as whose to say a new RB coach would not be better as Coach G may want the OC rule and if he does not get it, it could cause disharmony on the staff. Same with Coach Strip.

Kinda funny how some want changes but the change has to be their way.
