I'd be interested to see where Debord said that myself. Pretty damning if true - and prior to the SC game, I was cool with Debord for the most part.

He didn't. That comes from a paraphrased tweet that Knoxville media put out and fans went wild with but it was actually just a really bland statement about opponents not always showing on film what they're going to do the following week.

Were you on VQ when bent Hobbs made his debut?

Nope, I just see it referenced on there from time to time. I really wish I had been a member when Kiffin left in the middle of the night just to see the infamous "guys, it's true" thread from Brent. It must have been nuked because I have searched the archives and can't find it anywhere.

Practice observations...

"The team seemed pretty loose today from the few periods we were able to watch. It was very interesting, a lot of smiles out there today. Again, just a different feel around the practice today.

Evan Berry and Malik Foreman were both in green jerseys today. Berry had a visor on his helmet. Micah Abernathy practiced and wasn't in a green jersey.

On the offensive line we saw Coleman Thomas work some at first team center while Dylan Wiesman moved over to right guard.

Alexis Johnson was back out on the practice field, too. It continues to look like Kyle Phillips is in line for his first start on the defensive line at defensive tackle."

Ifs and butts, but...So, if we beat AM in overtime, and played halfway decent in SC, we could have been top four.. ??

I don't have any delusions about Butch. I want him to be Dabo. Run the program, make good hires, recruit and get out of the way and let players make plays. Up until this season, he's always had a well prepared, disciplined football team. Something hasn't jived with this team but it's fixable.

He isn't going to be Saban, Petrino or Meyer. No one we would hire would be those guys. Envy is the thief of joy.

I still think Butch can get it done here. He's proven he's not afraid to make tough decisions to better the program and I have confidence he will keep doing that.

If Butch is open to changing himself and his coaching philosophy, he will definitely have success here. We have seen that he's willing to change. Like you, I don't think he needs to fundamentally change the offense. If JG is even Dan LeFevour-caliber, this offense will hum...provided the guy calling the plays is at least a little creative. DeBord is way too inconsistent for me, and I think he needs to go simply to shuffle the coaching staff and allow room for better QB and OL coaches (likely an OC/QB coach dual role and a new OL coach).

Butch has been tested every year that he has been here and he has mostly responded to and risen up to those tests/challenges. There will still be a lot of talent on Team 121, and the East won't be that much better. If he can hold onto this recruiting class, the future can still be very bright under him and he may even get a mulligan on winning the East/being a playoff contender.

It hurts so bad that this team should have 1 loss and be ranked 4 right now but instead our starting running back just quit and we have an inconsistent starting quarterback and singing that same ole song there's always next year.

The vast majority of football teams are playing the "woulda coulda shoulda" game right now. We're hardly alone.

I am trying to get my head around what has been going on. Seems like the running game keying on Hurd was getting bogged down. It showed new life but for whatever reason, perhaps over-effort the turn-overs were to much to over come against A & M.

Kamara being out limited the options against USC and with Hurd being compromised, Muschamp keying on rendering Dobbs ineffective, the Vols just weren't able to adjust fast enough. The OC seems willing to throw the contested ball to JJ, but Dobbs response time, that is his quickness to some degree limits him as an option QB.

Jones did not let Hurd down if there was a promise to make him a feature running back. I am not sure how there was a work around and in the end through little fault of his own Hurd was suffering from having to spearhead the attack.

I guess that phase of the rebuild is over, and at this point there appear to be adequate back ups. DeBord played the hand he was dealt with the commitment to Hurd and the two edged sword of Dobbs intense focus. I am not sure Jones has played it wrong showing a commitment to Dobbs and Hurd. It's about culture and this kind of stability in the roster hierarchy clearly lets players know the work ethic required. Sure performance is part of it but Dobbs and Hurd have carried the team far. I'd rather see a run than a flash. Yeah Hurd is done, and teams are learning how to play Dobbs. Kelly looks competitive. The D still has some fiber but continues to need to gain experience.

The Vols' identity is evolving.

Hurd's family entered themselves into this. Let's not act like it isn't that way. Arthurs post was blasted over social media before Jalen spoke with Butch.

Assuming that's even him, I still don't see how posting anonymously on a message board means that he and his wife have both consented to having their personal dirty laundry aired to thousands of people online.

Is that in the terms of service?

He went on the radio and Facebook. Vol74s message was all over social media. Butch has not done a thing publicly still to this moment. They have.

I'll tell you what I want...

what I really really want...

is for both parties, the media and Hurd's family, to log off and move on.

I know but 2016 was supposed to be the year of the vols but instead we are saying wait till next year, but there will be major question marks such as qb and if anyone will step up on the d line just to name a couple.
