Undoubtedly one of the biggest factors in Hurd's decision will be colored by NFL considerations. At 6-foot-4, 240 pounds, Hurd has freakish physical traits but his NFL reviews are mixed. I talked with a few NFL personnel department guys about where Hurd's stock is now and what his move means for his NFL future.
"The guy ran for 1,200 yards in the SEC last year," said one NFL source. "He'll find work. He ain't tough but there's a ton of those at this level. If he can go 10-14 touches a game, minimum value he's a [round 5-7 pick]. With his size and testing numbers he's probably 3-4"
Another NFL source had doubts that the transfer and position change is the right decision for Hurd's future.
"That's a bad choice," he said. "He didn't fall that far (on NFL boards). He's always been that type of guy (with off-field question marks). More hype on him because he has unusual size. Too many good backs this year and he is behind all of them. He would be better served to return for another season."
